***How could this happen? How could I have been so careless.......?***

“If I ever have to go around the whole of Sunnydale again......please kill me.” Buffy said with an exaggerated, phony smile.

“Yes, yes, duly noted.” Giles replied distractedly from his reverie.

“What’s so interesting?” Buffy asked as she wandered over to where Giles stood. He was leaning over the center table, reading.

“Oooooh, a book…..surprise, surprise,” she quipped as she looked about the room.

“Will? Xander? Seen them around?” Buffy questioned returning her gaze to Giles.

“Uhh…..no, I’m afraid not.”

“Giles, what can you be reading that is so much more important than my boredom?” she whined, nestling into one of the not so comfy library chairs.

“Even the chairs here suck.”

“Well, you’re in a fine mood.” Finally roused from the depths of his book.

“Surprised you noticed with your head so buried in that thing.” Buffy said through clear annoyance.

“Y’know what, I’m going back out for patrol…..you know…..Vampires…..Demons…..potential death.”

Giles said nothing.

“Grrrrr. Bye!”

Buffy stormed out of the library.

“I thought she said the next time she goes back out to Sunnydale grounds for someone to kill her…..pity she left so soon…........”

Giles was taken aback, as he took in the sight of something rather nasty in the book.

“.........or not. Buffy!” Giles called grabbing his jacket and running out after her.

***I didn't catch up with her. How is that possible?? She only left mere moments before. Lord in heaven, I couldn't find her.....***

“Well there’s nothing like a Friday night…..with no one to talk to.” Buffy said, feeling not altogether un-sorry for herself. It had been a while since she and Angel had parted ways. But how she missed those days, fighting side by side…...fighting eachother. LOVING eachother. Yes, she loved Angel then....and she loved him still.

“What’s the matter Slayer? Feeling sorry for yourself?”

Buffy looked around, and surprise of surprises, there was no one there.

“Yeah, as a matter of fact. Come on out and we can discuss it. I really don’t have the patience to play cat and mouse with you. I have more important things to do.”

“Like having a nice hot plate of self pity....washing it down with an amusing bottle of whine?”

“Yes! No!! I mean…”

“Save it Slayer, no one cares. I know I don’t.”

“Then why don’t you come and out and party, what say?”

Buffy had been doing a 360 for the entire conversation and still saw no one. It felt very much as if the air itself were talking to her.........

“If you really want a party......” A figure whose features were partially blanketed in shadow materialized several feet behind her, "..............then let’s party!”

The shaded figure fired an incandescent blue arc of energy from an upraised left palm. Buffy heard the sound of the discharge before it left his hand and rolled to evade, jumping up to her feet to face in the direction of her antagonist . She locked her footing just in time to side-step a punch that just missed connecting with the side of her head. She clamped an arm down on it and with the other, grabbed the wrist.

“Alright then," the dark figure spoke, "so now that I’ve established you could probably take me in a fight, let’s play a different game, shall we?”

The now-visible figure of the man with heavy tattoos marring the surface of his otherwise, and quite oddly, good-natured face dematerialized from Buffy's grip and rematerialized behind her.

“Ra degam Surge!” He shouted, his palms flat out towards her. Dark green vines shot out from them and covered the Slayer. Soon she was entirely cocooned, trying as best she could with all her preternatural strength to break free of the arcane foliage, she only managed to look like she was doing some horrible drunken dance.

“Pretty sexy moves, Slayer.” The man cooed. Now incapable of seeing anything, Buffy tried to summon an image of her foe......and yet all she could think of was Angel.

“Who are you?!” Buffy's muffled scream could be heard from within the maddening enclosure.

“How so very prosaic.” The voice came through Buffy's coccoon, quite patronizingly

“Why don’t you stop acting like such a smug bitch and fight like a man!" Buffy twisted within the vines, still hoping to break through. The man walked over to the mass of vines and lightly nudged it.

“Aaah!” Buffy cried as she fell over. “Not funny!”

“Well…..not to you, no. But this ought to leave me with a smile on MY face. Goodbye, Slayer.” He raised a single eyebrow and the vines began to move.....to constrict.

Buffy's screams of agony reverberated throughout the township, reaching the ears of a frantically searching Giles. Realization and horror gripped him fit to buckling his knees....and he gripped a light pole to keep himself steady and upright. Those horrible screams continued, growing impossibly louder.

"Buffy. Not her. Please...no. Not her......."
