Wow it was scary when Giles killed Ben... i thought he was going to let him live, i suppose he had to do it incase Glory came back? Dod he ever tell Buffy what he done? ::bbat::

I don't know, but Giles is really scary when he's bad and angry. Like when he yelled at Buffy in the same episode.

yeah, and he has this amazing ability to be...cold, i guess would be the best word. like to jenny when she didnt tell him what she knew about angelus and stuff, and to willow when she was abusing magic in s6.

Dod he ever tell Buffy what he done? ::bbat::

i think he was supposed to tell her in 'lies my parents told me', but the episode was too long and the writers had to cut it.

i dont remember seeing giles like when he killed ben. when he said: " shes not like us" and then killed him i was in shock.. i could never imagine that he would do that..

This was the scene that confirmed for me that a Ripper series, if done correctly, could be absolutely incredible television.

It's probably too late now but if there is any Buffy spinoff that could still appear it would be that one.

Oh, truly. Horribly awesome
This moment reinforced the things revealed about Giles when he put the fear of ZEUS into Snyder:

He loves Buffy like a member of his family and he is willing to do anything so that she is protected and doesn't have to make compromising decisions.

It actually doesnt suprise me that Giles killed Ben... I mean... its Giles.. he is quite capable of alot of things...

I dont know, you could kinda see it coming. Ok, not that he was gonna kill Ben. Just that he was gomnna do something to him. He deserved it. Glory wasnt going to stay hidden inside forever. she would have come back to get Dawn in time. so really it didnt shock me that much. He's always been mega protective of Buffy and Dawn, so why should that time be any different?
He did what had to be done.

It shouldnt be a surprise that he'd do this. He was willing to let Dawn die to save the world, and he loved her like a daughter.

Look what he did to Ethan in Halloween. He beat him to a bloody pulp to get what he needed.

He might seem all stuffy, tweedy, dad like guy but he can be a mean bastard when he has to. Someone has to do the dirty work others wouldnt even consider (except maybe Anya 😛) or the world would have gone to hell long ago!

Yeah, this was not a shock moment at all for me. I fully expected Giles to do what needed to be done. It was definately a powerful scene but not a surprise at all.

but ethan was doing bad stuff, so in terms of that, he kind of deserved to be beat up. so there was nothing really wrong with giles doing that one.

Not really the point. The point is, Giles is willing to do what it takes to get results. Ben was no boy scout. He was willing to sacrifice Dawn to save himself. Not much better than Ethan really.

what i'm saying is, while buffy couldn't kill ben like giles did, she would be more than willing to kick ethan's butt, which giles did. if you're saying that giles would be more willing to do what it takes to get results than others, like buffy, then that doesnt help your point cause buffy would do that.

No BUffy ouldnt. Yeah, she'd kick Ethans ass but she not willing to do absolutely anything it takes. Well not back then anyway. She wasnt willing to let Dawn die to save the planet. Giles was. She wasnt willing to kill Ben to kill Glory. Giles was. See where Im going with this?

Giles was willing to sacrifice Spike in season seven whilst Buffy wouldn't give him up? That sort of thing? 😉

Exactly. Giles will do whatever it takes. Its his job. Doesnt make him less of a good person, it just makes him different. He's doing it all for the greater good. Well, except for his rebellious teenage years ;p

i do, but im not sure you see where im going. while you're right, and buffy WOULD NOT do whatever it takes the way giles would, the ethan example is not one that shows how this is true. because buffy WOULD beat up ethan, beating up ethan is not a "doing whatever it takes" task, and does not prove the point.

I get that but my point of bringing the Ethan thing up was (or at least was meant to be) that we shouldnt have been surprised at him killing Ben. We've seen he has a mean side. That and his rebellious years. Therefore, no great shock when he used his bad side to do what he did for the greater good.

Im not explaining it well but do you understand what I mean?

okay, got it; sorry. but my point is still valid if you had been making the point i thought you were making :p!

No, he hasn't always been protective of Dawn, you just think that because the monks put the magick-whammy on you.
