He's the backbone of the show, so he deserves his own thread, especially right now....

What do you think? Is he dead? In tonight's ep (Bring on the Night), was the First Evil portraying Giles?? I have my theories, but I'll post later...

Nearly everybody I've heard from so far believes that he is dead. They pretty much have all the proof they need to say that the First Evil was portraying Giles in "Bring on the Night": he didn't touch anything, didn't hug anybody, or show much of his regular fatherly emotion. I see all that, but I think it's all coincidence or Joss & Co. playing games with us and trying to make us believe Giles isn't real. Giles is alive; there's one opinion for ya.

I don't think they would kill him off. I agree that its probally just a mind trick. (I am so happy I taped Buffy tonight, otherwise, I would be totally lost 😀) Plus, Giles may not want to get close to them since he knows he'll have to leave again, so hes making everything as painless as possible.

(BTW, I accidently pushed the wrong one on the poll so everyone just know that I do not think he is dead.)

First of all, they can't kill him if they want to give him his own spin-off. Okay, they could resurect him, but that has been done enough!

Then why is he not touching or huging? ... the writers want to play a mind trick on us ... but they failed, at least with us!

Why not hugging, because maybe, he is very very very sad, all the other watchers died, they were killed of along with their SITs, he's probably a very bittered man, little bit broody. Like Wesley and Angel ... god I love those kind of characters!

I don't think he's dead.

Plus, in a later episode, the gang is alerted to the fact that Giles may not be who he seems. Which leads them out into the desert where Giles is on a retreat with the SIT's. Lots of touchy-feely, and we learn that Giles is not the First.

He's not dead. He was leaning on things, such as the couch. Of course he didnt hug her, those dam junior slayers got in the way.

Note to self: Stop reading spoilers!!!!

OK, here's my theory that I had before I read any spoiler....Giles is dead, but it wasn't the First. He was far too helpful to the group, in an non-manipulative way...but he's a spirit, so obviously he can't touch things...he just doesn't want to tell them he died right now because there's so much going on.

He's either a spirit, or better yet a hologram, and When Ripper comes on the air, he'll get a hard light so he can touch things! Cuz being dead isn't the handicap it used to be...lol!!

Yeah...🙂

I have no idea. He could be, but then he couldn't be. But seeing as how they never showed how he died, it could be an imposter.

*BUT* he gathered up all those SITs and brought them to Buffy. Why would the First do that instead of killing them? It would be easier and if Giles showed up without them, no one would've been the wiser...

But then again, how did he manage to get those few books and files and manage to escape the explosion?

So, I really have no clue...

Making a Big Bad able to impersonate characters can really drive viewers nuts, because you're not sure if they're real or not! I've about had it! I just hope they don't prolong this Giles or not Giles thing until the finale. Why did they have to have that Ax scene with him at the end? Anyway, here's my perspective:

If FE Giles (in Sunnydale) was telling the truth about the FE only taking form of the dead, then Giles IS dead.

If FE Giles was telling a lie about the FE taking form of the dead, then there are two Giles: FE Giles (in Buffy's house) and real Giles (probably still in England). Hence, Giles IS alive.

It's a 50/50 shot so there's really no way of knowing for sure. Then again, they do give Giles certain allowances, since he's the eldest. For instance, whenever someone's tortured on BTVS like Angel or Spike, they're not afraid to show it. However, when Angelus was torturing Giles in Becoming 2, they didn't show it on screen. Hearing him scream in agony would be unbearable. MY POINT is that showing Giles being decapitated on screen would be way too disturbing for an audience, but it doesn't mean that it didn't happen. They show you just enough so that you get the message. So yeah, as much as I hate to say it, he's probably dead.

well the deal is they are making it too friggen obvious as if Giles would be The First Evil so he probably isnt...Thats one of Joss mindgames 😛 Or Marti's, they are both the same ::wave::

I agree with you, JFGahBro, drawing it out all season long would be a major pain... I've been paying attention, lately, and one of the things they HAVEN'T done it draw story lines out over a long time. I mean, some were...the Mayor, Glory, etc...but anything as Nail Biting as Giles would be sheer torture!

Try this one on.

Remember when the bringers killed Robson? Did you notice the bringer who jumped from behind the corner to stab Robson was smaller than the average Bringer? Now in Bring on the Night did you notice when Annabelle was running she kept on looking behind her as if something was chasing her from Buffy's house?

Here's my theory; One of the SITs is an FE mole. Giles can't risk being killed. He's the last watcher. He has to bring all the remaining SITs to Sunnydale.

Giles created a doppleganger Giles to root out the double-agent SIT.

The real Giles is off bringing the remaining SITs together.

the first

hi, I'm new and just reading the posts and thought i'd join in.

Didn't the blonde girl who died sit on a chair when she was talking to willow in the library? That and Giles was leaning on something in the kitchen.

It does appear from the way Giles is acting that he could be the first as everyone knows we could probably keep guessing and then Joss Whedon will do something completely different.

I think the first is like a ghost and basically looks solid but cant actually touch anything, although it could appear to be touching/ leaning on something it actually isn't.The only give away would be if someone actually tried to touch it.
If any of this has been said before , sorry.

I havent read any spoilers but im wondering could Giles be in a coma or other half dead state like Buffy was for a bit at the end of season 1?
