Chris really does become a petty child in that season, it's a shame because they really push him and Lorelai to get together and then they really push to break them apart. All in the same season. 🙄 And so to not make Lorelai the bad guy they make Chris this petulant, jealous man-child. I know he's been a 'dead beat' in earlier seasons, but personally I don't feel it suggested he was this controlling and manipulative. I don't really hate the season though, it's just a bit "off" in feeling and tone.

It's always been my humble opinion that they assassinated his character st the end there just to make way for a Luke and Lorelai HEA

I seem to be in the minority but I always loved Chris and felt that Lorelei has the best chemistry with him. She literally lights up around him and sparkles. It annoyed me that they had him do this 180 degree turn in season 7.

They have good chemistry but oddly that is part of the problem with them too for me. I just find that they are too much alike, at least personality wise. One of the reasons Lorelei and Luke work so well, is because they both bring something different to the relationship. Its always more interesting for me that way. I think there is a greater energy between them because of it.

Same for me. Do they have chemistry? Sure. Maybe it's because LG and DS were such good friends in real life but that IMO played against them. Because they come across too sibling like for me. Or at the very least long time friends. Whenever they start in on their 'remember when' bits I feel like I'm watching siblings spar. And siblings+romance is better left to the very old times.

Also my least favorite version of Lorelai is the person she becomes whenever Chris is around. She is a worse mother, worse friend and least likable when he is there.

Funny, it's the complete opposite for me. I've hated him since his first scene and the subsequent episode 'Christopher Returns' only cemented that. It's been downhill ever since. I don't see him as OOC in the later S7 episodes. It's just weird that the u-turn in his behavior came about to rapidly. But Dopey was perfectly in character. As long as things are fun and easy, no problem. When the going gets tough he runs. Taking advantage of a weak Lorelai was also perfectly in character.

Also online there seems to be a lot of hate in Rory's direction, commenting on things like the fact she slept with a married man, that she was an overly-entitled brat, that the Gilmore Girls were put on a pedestal by Stars Hollow and that basically throughout the whole show she never actually evolved in her character.

I understand why people think she was overly entitled - her family was wealthy and had status. She had pretty much everything she could ever want handed to her so the comments she got from Mitchum Huntzberger really stung. But the thing is, when she got out into the big wide world, what Mitchum said was actually true! She didn't seem to have what it took as a journalist, but Rory thought too highly of herself to believe that, and so did her family, purely because she'd never had to face the realities of rejection or lack of support financially or otherwise like most young people do.

I don't dislike Rory at all, but I really can see why the fanbase would.

Absolutely.

I personally don't hate her, but she frustrates me a lot. Though not nearly as much as the way she's treated does.
Of course it's great to support people and give them praise for their work, but when it comes to the Gilmores their admiration of Rory verges on worship... at times it's quite bizarre. They are so blinkered that when Rory is ever criticized, the critic isn't just wrong, they must be a bad person or a conspirator. There's almost a religiosity about it.
It's really no wonder the proverbial eventually hit the fan.

I See what your saying, but I actually do think Mitchum was right. He was an ass, but he was right. Rory doesn't have what it takes. Her first rejection literally sent her spiraling into a depression that had her dropping out of school and stealing a boat. She is completely ill equipped to deal with hardship.

Even when she is before a judge, with her cushy lawyer and rich grandparents, she is completely shocked that she has has to pay consequences. She figured she would skate, and that she was ENTITLED to skate. Anyone with real grit would have taken what Mitch said and mentally told him to shove it, then go about proving him wrong. You are correct, journalism is a highly competitive, driven , ruthless career. Rory is mediocre at best.

Every article she has written in show has stunk of obliviousness. She criticized a ballet by comparing the lead to a hippo, then is shocked at the reaction. She wrote a piece completely condemning Logan's social circle and insulting rich kids, then is baffled when Logan calls her on her hypocrisy. She likes to think of herself as blue collar, working gal with gumption, when she's anything but. She's a trust fund baby at an Ivy League college with money being thrown at her and no need to work. An entire town is in love with her and men fall at her feet.

A year in the life she's a thousand times worse. She's the epitome of entitled princesses who peak in college and fail in life. She lacks self awareness and is unbelievably selfish. Ugh this turned into a rant lol, I hate her so much!! 🙂
 
And it irks me when they compare her to Lorelei. Lorelei is a thousand times more interesting. She's the one that is made of steel and has the will and gumption to go places. Look at what she accomplished at 16 compared to Rory st 32. It's laughable

I guess I differ on your view because unlike Logan (or at least early Logan), and the people he hangs out with Rory throughout the show does work hard, and has passion for her chosen career and studies. As for the community service thing. To be fair to Rory she does take her punishment on the chin. I don't remember much resistance on her part.

Then again in the episode I just watched Rory has a Micheal Moore film poster on her wall, so maybe she's not a good journalist afterall😀

Look at what she accomplished at 16 compared to Rory st 32. It's laughable

Yeah, but Rory does say that her mum is her idol, and to me it's clear why. 16-year-old Lorelai took control of her life and worked hard to make a success of it. Lorelai is definitely the more well-rounded and interesting character (but don't get me wrong, she's far from perfect!)

I am very interested to see how and if they move forward with a second revival, how 32-year-old Rory copes with motherhood. She seems so less mature, but then maturity and responsibility was forced upon Lorelai at such a young age, Rory has so far been shielded from all of that.

Finally finished it all! What a ride that was. I have to say I really really enjoyed it, I was so addicted to watching it my boyfriend watched a fair amount too and he really like it and found it quite funny. I got so invested in the characters, I really didn't think I would. Season 7 was a bit touch and go, I could not stand what Lorelai did to Luke, they had barely broken up and she goes back to Chris that night like come on girl what you doing. But I'm glad that they eventually got back together and stayed that way.
Absolutely loved April and Luke though, it was so cute seeing him with his daughter and trying so hard to make sure she stays in his life.
Rory was irredeemable to me, especially in the revival. Her poor boyfriend! And sleeping with an engaged Logan. I'd actually warmed up to him before that and now I really don't like him. You don't do that to you're fiance, and after the whole affair with Dean and how Lorelai reacted I was surprised she didn't have much to say, I sure would have.
I really liked Emily's development in the revival as well, it was really sweet n.n
Also personally I hope Rory got knocked up by the Wookie.

As far as I'm concerned, Emily is the main Gilmore Girl of s8. I was unsure how it'd be seeing Emily without Richard, but it was so well written and naturally Kelly Bishop did a great job. My favourite parts of the revival were her story and her scenes with Lorelai.

Did anyone else notice that Keiko Agena appeared as one of the teachers in 13 Reasons Why. Think she was really good in it. Made me think that maybe the teaching route might have been a good direction for Lane rather than how the show screwed her over in S6 and 7.

That would have been a great storyline for Lane! Music teacher!

On a side note Keiko Agena still looks so youthful I find it hard to believe she's older than 25! 😛
