Hmm, well I downloaded it for my new PC and I was playing around with it all last night, as we had no internet. I wasnt' really sure what I was doing, so they're not all that good, but here are the outcomes:

Good start! Cutting out a figure is REALLY difficult, especially when you're first getting started. I usually blow the piece up REALLY big and pick lots of spots to make it as precise as possible.

I like the first one; it's pretty.

Yeah, I basically rushed that, because i couldn't do it and I was getting frustrated. 😛

Thanks, I just played around with the colours and added in the sun. 😀

The Rogue one's pretty good.

I'm guessing to cut the figures out you just erased round them yeah? Use paths instead

Everyone likes the first one, wow. 😛 I threw it together in like 10 minutes. :lmao:

Ah, okay, yeah, I was just erasing the background, thanks for the tip. 😉

Welcome to GIMP, BoF!

Add me to the group of folks who favor the first one!

Anyway, I thought you might want to check out the GIMP tutorials thread. My last post in that thread contains some quick and dirty guidelines on cutting out an image. Some people use layer masks. Some use the scissors tool. Some use paths. There are tons of ways to cut out an image and it can get kind of confusing. Contained in that post, though, are guidelines on the methods that work best for me. I hope they help you, too!

Okay, thanks. :D
I really like what you did with the first one! 🙂

Also, a tip... if you're gonna use the eraser in order to cut things out, make sure to use the fuzzy one. Once you have most of it cut away, switch to a smaller fuzzy to keep things as smooth as possible, and don't be afraid to zoom in on the picture to get detail better. 😉

And read palabra's posts! She does amazing, amazing things with GIMP. 😀

Since I woke up early and had the day off school, I spent most of the morning on GIMP. I read through sum tuts and tried them out for myself, so here are my outcomes:

This first one doesn't really look edited (Other than the text, which I just added out of pure boredom 😉) but I edited the lighting and colouring and such.

I was testing out the colour changing and stuff, so I changed Cordy's top from blue to yellow - Or at least, it was meant to be yellow, it's more a very...murky colour:

Testing out how to have some of the image black and white with a certain part in colour. I couldn't resist from editing this adorable Dr. Horrible image. 😉

And finally...This one took a while, because I can't get my brain around how you did it, but eventually I worked it out, and this is my (Not so great) finished edition:

And that's all for now. 😉

Wow! Awesome job! You're doing really, really well! :)
Haha, thanks. I'm sure I can't be doing better than you, though. 😉 I printed out some tutorials so I had them with me at the same time (On the computer with GIMP, I don't have the internet) so that really helped and was a lot easier than the other day, when I was just guessing what to do. 😉

Nice work. I don't even know how to do most of that stuff (correctly) in photoshop. I hate following directions 🙂, but it's probably a good way to save time. Wanna see some banners with your new skills.

It looks like you're off to a great start (I haven't even attempted to get a start besides the BB art class tutorials, so def better than me  ) I also love the first Eliza one with the sun and also the "Buffy" one, looks very cool 🙂

Thanks. 🙂
I'm gonna get some more done soon, but probably not until the half-term holidays the week after next. 😉

I wish I had PSP or photoshop back though, arghh.

Wow! Color me impressed. You're improving by leaps and bounds. I've never even tried the picture in text effect or the Pleasantville color effect. It's pretty amazing that you would so quickly go from not being sure how to cut out images to mastering those effects. I can't wait to see what you come up with in terms of banners and wallpapers and things.

WOW, I'm so impressed! You are doing WAYYYYY better than I did first starting out! 😀 Great job- keep up the great work!

New stuff:

Just colour edits, but ya. 🙂

It doesn't look all that good, but I tried editing the eye colour, aswell as the shirt. 🙂

I can't actually remember what I edited in this next one. Eyes and lips, I think.
