I'm tired of hearing that Scott Allie hates/dislikes Spike (which doesn't necassarily mean anything for the character, since he's not the writer, he's the editor, a editor who probably realizes that Spike stories=money).

It seems like a urban legend by now. Once upon a time, Allie said "I'm not a Spuffy and/or Spike fan" or something to that effect and people jumped to conlusions, and now it's often seen as fact, that Allie actually would want Spike out of the picture.

If I'm wrong, please give me proof. Show me a article, Q&A, anything that proves that Allie doesn't just feel indifferent for Spike, but that he actually dislikes him.

Btw, there is a difference between "not liking" and "disliking", isn't there? Or does my English suck more than I thought?

To "not like" something and to "dislike" something is the same thing :) Though I suppose you could say "disliking" something is stronger than "not liking" something. As for Allie hating Spike, I've never heard anything about that. Sorry.
I'm with you. I think the problem started when Scott talked about the AR and how he doesn't want Buffy to end up with Spike after that, I don't really remember the details, but fans' reaction was scary. And rumors about Scott and his Spike hate started. It is rather ridiculous at this point.

It seems ridiculous since even Joss has said that Buffy loves Angel more than Spike (even though Whedon said he personally prefers Spike).

I remember there being a several arguments about it on different forums, and on whedonesque, but I never got that much into it, because it quickly got out of hand, and started to look ridiculous. But I have to ask the "believers" if there's actually proof, since I've seen several fans actually call Allie names and say that Spike is now doomed because he's going to darkhorse.

THIS.

I'm still wondering why Allie is obligated to like him in the first place or, even if it is true, what does it prove? Nothing happens to any of Whedon's characters that he doesn't want to happen.

If Allie doesn't like Spike, so bloody what.

Exactly right. Who really cares whether Allie or anybody else in our world or Buffy's likes Spike? Buffy by her own admission DOES love him, whether as a friend or a lover, and that's all that really matters.

I think Allie's dislike for Spike has been exaggerated, too. So, what Spike's not one of his favorite characters - but that doesn't mean Allie has the power to kill Spike off. So, no worries. I'm with Kean - who bloody cares if Allie dislikes Spike, anyway? Spike is still one of the verses' most popular characters. That alone should guarantee Spike a spot in the limelight next season (that and the confirmation that Spike will play a recurring role in said season).

Boys and girls, Spike is here to stay whether Allie likes him or not.

I actually think Allie is enough of a businessman to want Spike to stay, even if he secretly hates him. Which is good, in case Joss gets any ideas ;)
I agree with Miss K and Joan, it matters not one iota whether or not Scott Allie, or anyone else, for that matter, likes, dislikes, hates, loves, or wants to bear Spike's children. The name of the series is "BUFFY The Vampire Slayer," and by her own admission, whether Buffy, the star and arguably the central focal point of the show, meant it as friendly love, romantic love, or some combination of the two, SHE LOVES SPIKE. Beyond that, who cares? This is a part of the canon of the series, so it really can't be argued. Regardless, whatever Allie's personal feelings might be, I think that he is professional enough not to let his personal feelings influence Buffy's story, even assuming that he had the power to do so.

All this 'Scott Allie hates Spike' crap blew up over on Slay Alive. The whole thing is really really old. Who gives a fig who Scott Allie does or doesn't like. It's called personal preference and we're all entitled to it.

It sounds to me that Allie just doesn't ship Spuffy and the militant Spuffy factions tried to paint him as some form of evil monster of a human being for his blasphemy.

lol, well, I personally don't care if Allie likes Spike or not.
They're freaking out about it at SA? I'm not surprised. I knew there was a reason why I no longer have an account there.

I'm going to have to second Wesley, though. As much as I wish all of my fellow Spuffies were mature - they're not - and I think their dislike of Allie has a lot to do with this previous condesending comments towards 'shippers in general and his seemingly overall preception of the fans.

I can't pretend to know much at all about Scott Allie, but I do seem to remember reading on interview in which he was very condescending toward shippers in general (not just Spuffy). As a die-hard shipper, I was a little miffed when I read it, because I never like being talked down to ever. That might be where a lot of dislike in general comes from.

I have a vauge memory of that yes. He said something about to the effect off "Shipper are weird. Back on planet earth...".

I agree. That was the interview I was referring too. He also said some rude things at the ECCC this last year.

********* is a amazing place, filled with supportive sweet funny people, and trolls and negative people are rare and often bashed (more often than not in a polite way) by the more mature members, which there are plenty off.

I can recall that there were discussion months and months ago, when the 'Allie is bad' debates were big on several sites, among them whedonesque, but I don't recall if we had a single member who overreacted about Allie. I guess Tranquility remember that better than me. But if I remember correctly, many made "I support Scott Allie" buttons for their signatures. There were probably people on both sides of the argument, some mature, some less. I doubt we reacted more badly than any other site. But like I said, this happened many months ago, my memory could be failing me, and Tranqulity could be right. Maybe a few *********rs started the 'Allie is a bad bad man' crap, which Tranquility implied.

If you were treated badly (I assume that's why you wrote what you wrote), I can't blame your for leaving or having harsh feelings towards us. I only remember us being nice to you, but it's not like I read every thread and are online 24 hours per day.

I'm also sorry if you feel ambushed now, writing a short moody comment about another forum, and getting a passionate love-*********-post in response. I just love that place so much.

Amen, sistah.
and I think their dislike of Allie has a lot to do with this previous condesending comments towards 'shippers in general and his seemingly overall preception of the fans.

I actually wrote to Allie a few weeks back when I read some rather nasty things being said by fans about him. I felt bad for the guy and I suppose I wanted to just say, "Hey, some of us really appreciate what you do". Anyway, his reply was that those that give him a really hard time are few, perhaps louder, but certainly fewer. He said the majority of fans have been wonderful to both him and the comic in general.

So, I would say his perception of the fans is rather positive.

Also, his remarks about shippers? The guy has a point. We're insane, and you know it! 😛

Skytteflickan88 agrees: Yes, but good insane. I think he might have implied it was a bad insane, lol

I suppose. It still got a chuckle out of me though. I mean when you actually sit down and think about how we obsess and dedicate so much of ourselves to our chosen ships it is easy to imagine how someone who has never done that would find it strange, weird even.

He doesn't get what these characters and their relationships to each other mean to us, heck alot of our fandom don't get it, and we do act insane. And that isn't always a positive insanity either 😉

I just feel that our response to any apparently condescending remarks from anyone should be "Touché" quickly followed by "However, this is too much fun to stop now! I'd rather stay here on Planet Bangel (or whatever planet you so wish to inhabit)".

🙂

Well, true, but acting as if those viewers'/readers' opinions aren't important or relevant ("Back on planet earth...") is bound to upset people, especially since shippers ARE so passionate and insane about what they believe.
And really, a fandom without any devoted shippers can't be fans of a show with that great characters or stories. People make ships from nothing (I used to love to read Tara&Fred fanfics), so what kind of show wouldn't have any kind of shippers? lol

As a die-hard shipper, I was a little miffed when I read it, because I never like being talked down to ever. That might be where a lot of dislike in general comes from.

If I recall correctly he said that after the crap he went through with some of the shippers. Guess he was being bitter about it, which isn't professional. Understandable, but not professional at all.

I think my comment was interpreted wrong. I was kidding. Damn the internet and it's lack of inflection! 😉

Honestly, the only reason I don't post on ********* anymore is because I dislike the layout. It just gives me a headache for some reason. And yes, many of the people I met on there were very nice, it's just that there's really only room in my life for one forum - and this place is the first one I ever joined and will always be my home. The only reason I ever opened an account there in the first place was because this place was closed - and I wasn't sure if it was a permenant thing or not. I closed my accounts at BuffyForums and SA a while back. I can pretty much get my Buffy chat fix here, and I've been spending more time on Livejournal lately, too.

There is another unamed forum I don't post on anymore because people there were so incredibly rude to me - and it wasn't *********.

Anyway, I didn't mean to insult your fav forum, Sky! I really didn't mean for it come off like that.

I'm so glad it was a misunderstanding. I thought some troll had made you dislike us irrationally. I understand the being a one forum kind of gal. If SA shut down I'd probably be "living" here full time.
By "inflection" I meant that it's difficult to tell the tone of voice that someone is using online because you can't hear their voice. So, for instance, one can be misinterpreted as being sarcastic when they're being serious, or being serious when they're joking.

I'm a bit late, but...

I don't think Scott Allie actively hates or dislikes Spike. But in every interview he says nice things about Buffy/Angel relationship and, so far, he said nothing but negative things about Buffy/Spike relationship.

Of course, he's entitled to his opinion - but, naturally, it didn't add him popularity in the Spuffy segment of the fandom, and the situation went out of hand.

Anyway, Allie's attitude to Spike was irrelevant until he became the co-writer of the arc that features Buffy/Spike reunion. Now his opinion on the couple and the character matter. Hopefully he will be respectful for all characters.

According to an interview done by Buffyfest at Comic-con, all the actual dialogue will be written by Joss. Allie seems to have more of a fill in the blanks role in the last arc. I don't think he will be as heavily involved as we initially thought. I'd say the arc is going to be 80-90% Joss, and he likes Spike so I expect Buffy/Spike to be given their fair treatment. In fact Allie said as much months ago.
