(This is NOT a ship question, so bear that in mind before you answer)

Until the end of Season 8, any time that I thought of Buffy getting married, I always envisioned Giles being the "father" who would give her away, just as she requested in "Something Blue," since Hank has pretty much totally abandoned her and seems to have no desire whatsoever to renew any sort of relationship with her. Now, however, we're going to have find someone else to give the bride away. So:

If you were planning Buffy's marriage to the unnamed person of her dreams, who would you choose to give the bride away? (Again, remember, this is not a ship question, so try not to turn it into one)

About the only male member of the cast left who hasn't either slept with Buffy or had her fantasize about being with him is Andrew, so he would have to be my choice.

Realistically, though, Xander would almost certainly do the honors

I would have to go with Xander, only as he is really the person she has grown closest too In my opinion, It could always be Willow, but I would invision her as the maid of honour. And I was contemplating Dawn, cause I have been to a wedding, and seen some on TV where a sibling gives the bride away, however, I would think that Xander is a more likely candidate than a younger sister.

Either Willow or Xander, I think Dawn would be Maid of Honour. Makes more sense for Xander to though as Willow can always be bridesmaid and she'd want all of them to be involved. I don't think Andrew is close enough to her to give her away.

...

What about Dawn? Generally a blood relative would be the one to give away the bride. I find the image of her walking down the aisle alone a sad one, especially being surrounded by all the people that she has. I could see her walking with her sister then standing by her side during the vows.

I never really imagined Buffy would have a traditional marriage, so I never thought about the 'giving her away' thing. She might get married for practical reasons, maybe, since her job is so dangerous, but even if she did marry, I always envisioned a small civil ceremony. Or a domestic partnership. A post-Chosen Buffy doesn't seem like the type to want a big, complicated traditional affair. So...I vote that no one gives her away.

Another "nobody" vote here. "Giving the bride away" is an archaic tradition that harkens to the time when girls/women were considered property- the father "gave" her to the husband. Even when I was married in the Roman Catholic Church (not considered a paragon of progressivism lol), our priest told us that if I wanted my father to walk me down the aisle that was fine, but the RCC believes that a woman chooses to get married as an adult and full member of the Church. No one gives her away, she chooses to commit to the Sacrament with her husband.

Sorry, offtopic! But I believe that Buffy would either elope or be surrounded by friends & family but not have anyone "give her away". 🙂

Mostly makes me sad to think that Giles won't get to do it...

But ah well, who knows if the Buffster will even tie the knot? If she does... hm, well I suppose I'd say nobody too.

As much as I love Xander, I don't think anyone should give Buffy away if she ever gets married. She's such a strong, independent woman. She should give herself away and to Hell with tradition.
