Glee 4

I really regret watching the new episode tonight just before bed...now I spent a loooot of time looking for spoilers on the internet for next episode!

Has anyone heard anything shocking?
I heard somebody is gonna die, and there are rumors that it might be Quinn...

^^^That's why I hate Kurt so much. I despise him. He's one of my most hated TV characters. I think I might even hate him as much as Lauren on Make it or Break it. Because the writers say they're being good and doing a service to the gay community... and even gay people eat it up like it's the best thing ever. But really, it's one of the worst things being done to us right now. Just re-enforcing stereotypes and making kids believe that if they do come out, it's going to be hell. The reality of coming out is so different. If you sourround yourself with the right people, no one cares. And those that do care don't care enough to make your life hell. They might crack a few jokes, but that's it. I was too lazy to elaborate on my thoughts on Kurt last week.. .but here we go: If you are a gay man, and you follow the stereotype that gay men are essentially women in every way, shape, and form... people are going to treat you like that stereotype is true. And you have NO ONE to blame but yourself. If he wants to be an eccentric and draw attention to himself (like he told his father and Blaine he wanted to do), then he needs to learn how to play the game. I played it for many years... If you want to draw attention to the parts of you that are different, when people notice because you're breaking huge social norms, you relish in the attention. You look at it as a trophy when someone points it out. When a big giant group of people point it out, you just won a grammy or an oscar. You jump up there and say "you guys ROCK beyond belief. Why? Because you noticed the part of me I was trying to draw attention to, and you reacted like the sheep you are." Except, without being mean. He wanted to have his cake and eat it too in last week's episode. SO many gay people feel this way... I know because I've talked to them. But it's not progressive. Over the course of the show, Kurt has done EVERYTHING gay people do that they shouldn't. (Well, except go to a pride parade wearing virtually nothing. But I have faith we'll see that next season.) Bottom line: Kurt sucks.

You might not have encountered any hardships coming out, but that doesn’t mean that other people haven't or won't. Not everyone has the privelige of chosing who they are going to surround themselves with like you did and not everyone are lucky enough to have the non accepting people just lay off. People are being put through HORRIBLE things just for coming out as gay at schools all over the world and you just saying that all people do is maybe crack a few jokes is belitteling those people experiences and brushing them off as not true. As for Kurt and his story - for me it’s about a gay boy who is having a hard time because he’s surroundings won’t accept who he is, but he finds a way of dealing with it. We are shown how he gets stronger and stronger and are able to come back with more courage after going through something really difficult. I think that’s going to inspire kids who’s being bullied that there’s hope, not give the message that they should stay in the closet.

As for this:

You need to accept that some people DO fit in to stereotypes. It is a little tiering when that’s the only way a certain way of life is portraited yes, more variaty would be great, but that doesn’t mean that the stereotype way isn’t a valid form of living your life. Some gay men do act what traditionally is connected to the female gender, yes. They are in no way better or worse gay people for it. There’s no certain way a gay person should or shouldn’t act. We’re all just people and we have the right to be who we are and be proud of that.

I hope I’m misreading your above post, but to me it’s sounding like you a) don’t think gay men should act like ”women” and b) gay men who do act like ”women” have themselves to blaim when people treat them badly. I really hope that isn’t the case (please prove me wrong!) You’re also using some really strong words like ”hate”, ”despise” and ”you have NO ONE to blame but yourself”. I suggest you take some time to think through what that means and if that’s really a side of you you want to encourage. I’ve come to know you as a loving person that accept others for who they are, and this post shows nothing of that Zoà« that I like so much, it just hurts my heart.

The thing is he doesn't get stronger and stronger. And I know that some people encounter more hardships than me. I know people very close to me that experienced a lot of hardships with coming out. But the Glee writers make it seem there is no escape. To clarify, I say this because Glee is marketed and accepted as being inspiring to gay people to be more confident in themselves and to come out. But the way coming out is portrayed in the show, the way bullying is portrayed in the show, it feels like there's no escape for this people. I feel bad for them because there's no escape... but it's like "come on, give the kids a break! Not EVERYONE cares this much!" And that was my point. Sure there are going to be hardships sometimes... but not everyone cares that much. Even in small town Arkansas where my cousin grew up and came out, he had a few bullyies... but most of the people in his school didn't care too much. They might have talked about it "behind his back" but they were really no issue. All I'm going to say is if I wasn't out, Glee would make me want to stay in because it IS every fear a gay person has about what coming out is going to be like. And it's a reality in that world. It's awful.

You need to accept that some people DO fit in to stereotypes. It is a little tiering when that’s the only way a certain way of life is portraited yes, more variaty would be great, but that doesn’t mean that the stereotype way isn’t a valid form of living your life. I'm not saying some gay people can't fit into stereotypes. I'm saying if Glee is truly groundbreaking like people say it is, then their main gay man wouldn't be the epitome of the stereotypical gay man. It would break boundaries and stereotypes. What bothers me isn't the fact a gay character is a walking stereotype, it's that this show SHOULD be groundbreaking. This show SHOULD be tearing down walls and boundaries. This show SHOULD be more progressive.

This isn't real life. This is a TV show. And I feel the way I do about Kurt because it's a TV show and because this isn't the role model gay kids need. And that IS because he's the walking stereotype. Everyone has the right to be who they are and proud of it... but the media should be more progressive and moving on past the walking stereotype character.

You're kinda misreading my post. As I've already said, I don't mean gay men that are more true to the stereotype are "worse" gay people. As for your "b)" up there, I didn't mean to insinuate that gay men who are more true to the stereotype have no one to blame but themselves if someone treats them poorly. I meant that if a guy wants to wear a skirt to the prom (like Kurt did) and draw an extraordinary amount of attention to his feminine side, against the warning of others, they really can't blame others when the others treat that guy like a girl.

I hope my opinions on this subject hasn't tainted your opinions of me. I'm really a good person and I believe everyone should be accepted for who they are, no matter what. But I also believe the way gay people are portrayed in the media needs to change. It needs to be portrayed as a "normal" thing and the gay people on TV need to be "normal" people. It needs to be normal and a non-issue. Glee makes it the central part of the show, and I believe that is counter-productive.

I love Jesse. Yes, he's a jerk, but he has a really good voice (better than Finn's imo) and I like how he stirs things up. As much as I like Finchel, Rachel and Jesse go well together imo.

Yeah, I agree, Jon has an amazing voice. Better then Cory's, 100%. Some of my favourite duets are St. Berry duets (it's hard for me to admit), but I still hate Jesse with passion. At the begining, I haven't hated him.. he just bugged me because he messed things up for Finchel, by his very own existance, but when he egged Rachel, I became furious at him. Don't know why that thing botheres me SO MUCH, but that ruined the character for me. When he came bace in the Prom Queen and put a spell on me with his amazing voice + Rolling in the Deep, I thought maybe he changed and I'll stop hating him so much. But this last episode, he got on my nerves again. Not only that I hate him now, he also annoys me. If he won't sing anymore, I can't see any other reason for him to stay, because FINCHEL IS ON BABY! 😉

Fair enough. I haven't yet watched Prom Queen or Funeral, so maybe I'll change my mind. I'm glad Finn and Quinn broke up.

I've been listening to St Berry's cover of 'Hello' recently and re-dsicovering my love for Jon's voice. Did they have any other duets? I can't remember.

There's "Total Eclipse of the Heart" and unaired "Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love" which is my fav. :)

Me too. I was sick and tired of Fuinn.

Total Eclipse of the Heart with Finn and Puck, the same characters were singing Run, Joey, Run; Rolling in the Deep; Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love; Hello you mentioned; they were singing Like a Virgin alongside Wemma and Finntana.. and I think that's that.

Of course I still believe that you're a loving and accepting person. I didn't mean to make it sound like I didn't, I'm sorry if you thought so.

I understand where you are coming from and I do agree on some points - the images of gay people portraited by television needs to be more varied. And sometimes just showing the problematic side of something can make people think that that's all there is to it - that being gay is going to be hard and nothing else. But in the same time - it's dangerous to just act like being gay is a non-issue, 'cause to a lot of people it isn't (even if it should!) - it does create problems for them. To just ignore those problems is like saying that we shouldn't change anything, that everything is fine, and that's not true. And to want gay people (even if they are just characters on television) to act more "normal" is in the long run saying that the way they act now is abnormal and that's sending out a message to kids that are like Kurt that they aren't OK and that they should change to fit in. That's why I loved Finn's reaction to Kurt's prom outfit - he was so excited for him for following his heart. It isn't Kurt that's doing anything wrong for acting like a "girl", it's everyone else who's making him believe that it's wrong to do so.

So it's a thin line to walk - the best would be to show both sides I think.

Thanks! I've never heard Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love. I'll have to go find it. 🙂

I don't know... It think it's just a subject I feel very passionate about. When it comes to this, I'm very goal oriented. If the goal is to empower gay teens, this show is doing a horrible job and needs to go about it in the opposite way. If the goal is to reach equality, being as flashy and flamboyant as possible isn't the way to do it at all. A friend of mine just said as I was talking to her about this "we (as humans) tend to put so much emphasis on our differences, even when arguing about how we're all equal.. when in reality, the only thing that will really work is focusing on our similarities. There are often more of them than we realize." I completely agree with her. I just get really almost offended when I see people who claim to be working for equality focusing on the differences. And that includes gay people. They gay community does that way too much and it really hurts me in my heart... because I take it personally. I often look at it like "these are my rights, and you're getting in the way of me having them." That's exactly what I feel Kurt does, which is why I hate him so much.

Just heard that 'Hello Twelve, Hello Thirteen, Hello Love' song, I can see why that was cut. The lyrics are a bit dodgy, though Rachel and Jesse sound great together as always.

I loved Funeral, it was very sweet and understated. Nice to remind us that Sue is human and I feel bad for both Jesse and Finn as it seems like Jesse knows he's fighting a losing battle a bit and Finn (even though he doesn't really deserve Rachel) has had even more heartbreak after ending it with Quinn. My Man was amazing, Lea Michele just gets better every time she sings imo, as does Chris Colfer. That Pure Imagination song made me cry, I'm not ashamed to admit.

Looking forward to next week already, though I kind of don't want it to happen as then it'll be over for a few months. I've grown rather attached to it.

I loved this episode. I absolutely loved it.

Rachel was so cute. Her clothes in this episode were fantastic, especially when she was singing with Kurt, that dress was amazing. I loved all the Finchel moments, especially stage kiss and the scene in the end. I would love for him to go with her in NY when they finish, because I love Finchel, but I love Rachel/Broadway also. I wasn't mad at Finn because he kissed her on stage in front of everyone.. his heart told him to do that, and he followed it. He was actually really brave, and I admire him for that, and also, I'm a big sucker for romance. I loved how he stood up to Jesse.

I loved how Quinn broke down in the end, and how Brittana decided to help her. I want them to become friends again, but not to become cold heart bitches like they used to be. I loved every word Brittany said in the end. I love that girl and all she has become. Now she has funny lines and serious lines, and she's perfect.

I think Glee with this episode tried to remind us what Glee really is. We are all so obsessed with ships, especially the ones we hate, so we ignore the ones we love. Brittana fans forgot how little scenes they had, now they don't know how to appriciate all the beautiful meaningful scenes like one in this episode. Same goes for Finchel fans. We got used to big dramatic scenes, so now we don't know how to appriciate the little ones, the most beautiful ones. Imagine how unsatasfied Tike, Quick etc. fans feel.. We're obsessed how we hate Blaine, Artie, Rachel, Lauren, that we forgot how to love ours favourite characters. Glee today showed us that this show is not about winning, not about getting what you want, but being with the person you love, not matter what the price is, and no matter is that person your love interest or a really good friend.

I quite liked it. I thought Quinn's storyline in this was a bit anti-climactic, her 'big plans' didn't even get hinted at, unless it was to get Rachel and Kurt in trouble. Speaking of, I LOVED the Kurt and Rachel scene with them singing on the Broadway stage, it's something I always imagined my old best friend (who was a gay guy) and I doing one day, so was lovely to see. Considering they're the ones who have tried to retain their own identity regardless of how they're treated, it's good that they have some sort of friendship as they can understand where each other is coming from.

While I think Jesse had a point regarding the kiss, I was glad Finchel got back together. The library scene was adorable 🙂 The Klaine moment was lovely as well.

I think Quinn's plan were too sabotage any chance for ND to win.

It was alright. I'm not so into Finchel, but I loved all of the friendship moments. 🙂 And, of course, Kurt/Blaine.

I totally agree with this. As much as I love Kurt, I don't feel like they're doing a good job on the show of showing that being gay is normal and totally acceptable. By making him so flamboyant and out there, I think they're making people think that most gay people are very in-your-face, and not a lot of people are comfortable with this kind of thing, so it's only making homophobia worse for some.

I think that it was nice that Rachel supported Sunshine, to redeem herself for acting cruel to her at the beginning of the season (yeah, it hurt their chances in the Nationals competition. At the end of the day, though, friendship is more important than competition -- or at least it should be). I liked the Rachel-Finn moments, too, but think they should break up after high school. They have good chemistry, but I don't think that they can manage a long-term relationship. The Kurt-Rachel Wicked duet, was also nice, as was the scene between Mercedes and Sam. Overall, I thought that the season finale was a very good episode.
