Glory and Ben

Just what exactly is their relationship? I'm watching season 5 at the moment and can't seem to figure it out. I know Ben refers to her as her sibling, but how can that be if she is an exiled God?

I'm not sure if this has been answered before. I did searches and looked through the forum.

Any accurate answer to your question would result in a major spoiler for the season. The best thing that you can do for now is just watch and enjoy. I can assure you, the wait will be well rewarded.
 
Oh I've watched all the seasons before. I just couldn't remember. But now I just watched the storytelling from (in Spike's words), one of the "Renaissance men". lol. The reason why I asked is because my boyfriend is watching the series for the first time and he asked me, then I was like, you know what...I don't remember.

I never really figured out just how an exiled god who had been in our dimension for at least a few centuries, since the Knights of Byzantium (?) had been searching for either her or the Key for at least that long, could coexist with what was obviously a young man (at least there was never any mention of Ben being immortal)
Either he was actually far older than he appeared to be, of Glory somehow managed to shift from one human host to another when the previous one approached death. But if that were really the case, then Giles killing him was an exercise in futility, singe Glory's spirit, soul, or essence would simply move on to another likely host.

I guess that was another one of those things that we were supposed to just accept and not try to analyze.

I think that Ben probably WAS immortal, in the sense that he couldn't die of old age (but obviously he could die from other means). Remember what Glory's minions said? That if Glory were to die, he would die, too? I think Glory's presence in his body kept him young. I also think that his rebellion was a recent phenomenon. He was beginning to want independence and his own life; he was learning how to repress Glory with drugs, and get more time as himself.

Wasn't Ben put on the Earth in almost the same way as Dawn? The world accepted him for just being there suddenly so he could "house Glory" I could never see Glory suddenly turning in to herself from Ben as a baby. To me he seemed immortal and he's been in this for quite a long time and quite clearly upset that he can't have his own life because essentially he's only alive to house a Hell God.

that was my thoughts exactly
I don think Ben was immortal. i think glory used spells to force conception of children. made specifically for her. so when the one she was using neared death. she would jump to the next. I think if she knew the host was nearing death, natural death she could jump. not if it was a sudden killing. e.g accidental car crash or murder

I don't think that was the case, I remember Gregar (sp?) the Head of the Knights of Byzantium said a new born male was created. Which comes across as Ben has always been the host for Glory. The only magic she put between them was when people saw her change between herself and Ben they'd instantly forget. Only towards the end did that spell break down and everyone remembered.
 
Riiiiiight. There's no way I'm going to believe Ben is Glory. You people and your crazy theories. I suppose next one of you is going to be claiming that Dawn is some kind of mystical ball of energy.

Not sure about the facts but the Quelher demon they called to 'remove' the mentally challenged as a result of Glory had been mentioned over at least 100 years, I think...didn't the Scoob's find out about it from press cuttings in the library???

I think that Ben was mortal in the sense he could be killed, but shared his sister ability to live without aging...
 
I would assume that she has only been here as long as Ben has been alive. I'd say he looks about 25 so about 25 years.
Which does bring up interesting questions about the Knights of Byzantium...I can't find anything saying where they are from, what there purpose is other than to stop Glory...it all seems left a little open.
But, I'm probably wrong...I don't know.

Thats what I've been thinking after watching the last two episodes of season 5 today. Glory has only been stuck on the mortal plane inside Ben for about 25 years or so. As for the Knights of Byzantium I think there a mystical order most likely human and very religious. Due to their monks trying to crack Willow's barrier spell with the power of "God" but I think theres a lot of them, as they just keep on coming.

I don't think they were brother and sister...even though Ben has stated his sister was a pain in the ass.

Ben was created solely as a vessel for Glory. He only existed because of her.

OK, confused again.
 
Yeah I think Ben's existence was only because of Glory. That's why he was trying so hard to have his own life, maybe to justify to himself that he wasnt just created as a vessel but instead someone with more of a purpose than just that. Sort of the same thing Dawn is struggling with.
