Glory... Love Her Or Hate Her?

I can't really stand her. I'm not quite sure what it is though. I tried to like her several times, but I just couldn't get over how annoying she is.
I loved her introduction (when she smacks down that huge door and you assume it's some massive beast), but everything past that I hate (her brain-sucking ability, her sharing a body with Ben and the following cross-dressing scenes, etc).
But then again, season 5 is one of my least favourite seasons anyway. Started so great with so much potential, but then it just went donwhill.
I would have prefered them making Dracula the big bad!
 
I thought Glory was fantastic! She was such the whiny, superficial beauty queen, and I found that refreshing. Some of the people I'm forced to be around every day... well, it makes me love Glory because we viewers aren't supposed to take her seriously. She's my favorite Big Bad, because she's so utterly ridiculous, yet she is more powerful than Buffy, and she might have come the closest of all to her Big Bad goals (memory's a little fuzzy).
 
I generally liked Glory as well. I enjoyed that she provided such a physical threat to Buffy, she was un-killable and stronger than she was and it was excellent to see Buffy genuinely afraid of someone.

I also enjoyed some of her humour sometimes, I enjoyed her "tick tock Dreg tick freakin tock!" and comments such as "Oh please don't tell me I was fighting a vampire slayer, how unbelievably common!" which completely turned the entire premise of Btvs on it's head and the whole 'mythic-ness' of the slayer legacy.

The only two things I really disliked about the character was the unbelieve-ability she wouldn't have killed Buffy sooner than she attempted to, and her minions who I found dull, really cheesy and appalling actors.

Glory had all this strength and Buffy constantly got in her way. It didn't make sense for Glory not to kill all of them like she attempted to do in 'Spiral' after Buffy had rescued Willow. Joss tried to clear this up a bit in 'The Gift' when Glory says "that nagging little pinch of humanity that makes me go for the hurt instead of the kill. Lowering myself to trade blows with the slayer when I should have just put my first through her heart, gotta be Ben." I'd have liked that explanation if Glory had been more cruel towards Buffy, but never did she really attempt to "hurt" Buffy instead of killing her.

But at the end of the day she was a pretty great villain, I certainly enjoyed her. Not up there with the likes of Angelus but miles ahead of The First and Adam.

Yeaaah... it was lines like this, or maybe just the delivery of them, that drove me up the wall. I thought she sounded so ridiculously lame.

Really? I loved them lol I liked that she viewed Buffy as so useless and common. To quote an awesome Star Wars quote, "Twice the pride, Twice the fall"

The more Glory thought Buffy was useless, the better it was going to be when Buffy beat her, evident by Buffy showing her no mercy with the "you're a god, make it stop" and the insane beating with the troll hammer.
 
Vampmogs- I loved those lines too. And I thought Clare's delivery of them was perfect. She always portrayed her with that edge of insanity, Giles constantly said Glory inevitably had from being stuck in a mortal world in a mortal body.
She is acting in this way- saying something is common, or saying something is rude when someone interupts her- because from what she's seen over the years, she knows this is how people speak and behave. However, because she's crazy and evil she warps it and gets it wrong. As for example, whilst saying interrupting is rude...she breaks the guards neck. And her delivery of '...that is so unbelievably common. If I had friends and they found out about this...' is so strongly said because she believes it, but disjointed in deliverance because she herself is disjointed in her thought process. She knows it's a human phrase but isn't entirely sure of it's context. She just has a bare grasp on it.

It's like in Shadow when she goes into the Magic Box and actually buys the items rather than taking them and killing everyone. She buys them because that's what humans do. On some level, maybe not even on a conscious level she's aware of, she's purposefully trying to act human in a human world. And obviously failing.

You put my scrambled thoughts into words.
I'm rewatching S5 since this weekend (for the first time since ages, I can't believe how much I didn't remember correctly anymore 😵) and, well, I clicked indifferent. She makes a good big bad, but not a great one... though I think the split thing (Glory/Ben) is a cool idea.
 
i dont love or hate her either, she was ok i suppose, nothin special, the story she was involved in though was excellent.
 
I wouldn't change her for another villain but I really can't stand her character. Not sure if you're really meant to love her though. Spike was so accurate in his description of her in Intervention.

She's one of my favorite Big Bads too, and Clare did a great job portraying her. She made me laugh a lot, especially the line "I kinda want to hear ME talking right now!"
 
I actually loved Glory. AND her minions! they provided so much comic relief...

But I never looked at Glory as "insane" or crazy or whatever. To me, she was what she was - A GOD - stuck in "this dimension" where her powers were very limited. She couldn't do the things she was used to doing. Yet she was still stronger than the Slayer, and truly, no one could take her.

I liked how the writers made her into an "mirror image" of Buffy. Not many people see that, but if you think about it, you'll see... she was small, petite, strong, quippy, blonde, etc. It was her "holier-than-thou" attitude that set her apart, that made her such an enemy. The way that Blory began fighting against her/his own humanity when the human part started to win-out. It was written so well... a good/evil entity sharing the same body. Genius. Pure genius.

i totally drew up the similarities between the two of them too. Love Glory and the minions "This shall be our day of glory!"
I loved her she was great, just the way she looks down to Buffy !
Buffy isn't used to that which is good cause its character building !
Also shes insanely funny x

I hated Glory. I though she was just some twit of a hell god. She is so annoying and whiny.
 
I don´t love her and I don´t hate her. But I don´t think it´s fair to say that I´m indifferent. I like her more than I dislike her. She´s really annoyng at times but she´s more often funny. So on the plusside it ends. But love? No.
 
i think i'm indifferent to be honest. i loved her one-liners but the glory/ben thing was a bit far fetched for me plus there was just something about her that irritated me.

LOL! far-fetched? The entire premise of the entire series was far-fetched! I actually liked how the writers kept coming up with new ideas for a villian. Each one was different & amazing in its own way.
 
Have to say Glory was one of my fav big bads, she provided much amusment and has some fantastic one liners, granted she did have her moments when she was annoying but overall loved her.
 
She's my 2nd favourite Big Bad after the Mayor. She was so bitchy and funny at the same time. I don't think season 5 would have been as good without her, I don't know. But I loved Glory.
 
LOVE GLORY (my sister spotted her in bring it on and said she looks skanky, my sister aint seen Glory yet... oh yes her mind will be changed)
