"Going Back To The Vineyard"

Buffy's announcement that she planned to go back to the vineyard was the catalyst that led to the mutiny, but we never actually got to hear just what her plan was. I seriously doubt that a full frontal assault would have been part of it, seeing how badly Caleb pretty much single handedly beat them before. I think that she would have had at the very least, some sort of plan to either divert Caleb or work around him some way.

So, here's your chance to play General Buffy. Assuming that the troops were all supportive and willing to take orders, what would your strategy have been for a second attempt at either taking the vineyard or finding out what the First Evil and its minions were guarding there?

I think there was no way to get the Scythe without anyone being killed, it was a horrible plan that was only good when she went alone & outmaneuvered Caleb.

Well as I've pointed out in the multiple threads about Empty Places, I don't think she even had a plan in this sense. I mean she says "I'm willing to talk strategy" which in my mind refers to this. "but this is the plan" I think refers to the main idea there's something at the vineyard that needs to be gotten. So I really don't think she had a plan in this sense... which makes the mutiny even worse.

My ideal plan would be what she did.. avoiding Caleb and Buffy going alone. That means no crap no annoying potentials to be scared and/or screw up... Buffy's full attention on dodging Caleb and finding out what he's hiding and where. Maybe Willow could do some sort of confusion spell or something, but I don't think it would work.

But assuming it did make sense, they should have just told Willow to teleport Caleb somewhere like she did with Glory. Or tried that spell from Primeval that made Buffy much stronger. Or used the troll hammer. Or the rocket launcher. Or called Riley.

Basically they should have sued their brains for once that season.

its a possibility, I wouldn't bet on it, but its possible.

I agree that the writers bailed her character out, she's one of my favorite characters in S1 through 4, she was pretty good in S5 for the most part, except when she gave her friends an ultimatum, & then she went downhill from there, especially in S7, the writers continued to bail her out from her death in "The Gift" all the way to W&H's amulet in "Chosen", yet her character never recovered enough for me.
