i'd always recomend "the hobbit" by J R R Tolkien but maybe thats cause i'm such a big fan of his books. 🙂

My teacher read The Hobbit to us (my class) in fifth grade, and I can remember it was one of my fave books. I completely forgot about it until I saw Lord of the Rings. It's a great book!

Phillip Pullman books are amazing-especially His Dark Materials (Northern Lights, Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass)
Also, I've just finished Tis, the sequel to Angela's Ashes, both by Frank McCourt and they are both really good!

OMG - I was just gonna mention those books! THE best books EVER are the 'His Dark Materials' trilogy by Philip Pullman, consistion of, as you said, 'Northern Lights', 'The Subtle Knife' and 'The Amber Spyglass'. They are a must for any book fan and i cant stress enough how good they are!
The Buffy books were a bit trashy. Alright if you're in the mood for a light-hearted good-rubbish book, IMO.
Harry Potter held back another year?! Really?! I havent heard that! I thought it would be on the news or something?! ??? Thats awful, i ::heart:: them!
 
I love to read, mostly sci-fi and mysteries. (I've also been dipping into some of the non-fiction Buffy/Angel guides lately, too -- big surprise.)

For straight sci-fi, I recommend Downbelow Station by C.J. Cherryh.

For legend-based fantasy, try Diana Paxson. (She has a lot of multi-part series, so make sure you start with the first book for those.)

If you like your mysteries "dark", try anything by Patricia Cornwell (US settings) or Minette Walters (UK settings).

AW!!! I know what you mean!!!!! I've even gone as far as registering on a hary poter MB.(i know, o know, i have no life sigh) I also love Summer of my German Soldier and ive heard that the amber spyglass is really good.
 
Amber spyglass is the best book out of the 3 fab ones! Its soooo sad . . . oh, well, you gotta read them!

that would have been a good book to read while at school, the only good bokk i had to read while at school was "of mice and men" i really enjoyed that. 🙂
 
i read "of mice...." at school and loved it ,recently reread it and have to say years later i found it not very good.over simplistic language,slow plot,irritating characters
 
Oh, i read them when i was younger, about 10ish or something. I really adored them then! But i dont think theyd appeal to me now!
My friend says Of Mice and Men is really good, but i havent got round to reading it yet!
The 'His Dark Materials' trilogy is the best!

Dear America series is big in well....America. What it is is these diaries from girls (teenagers) about going though the historical events in America (slavery, revolutionary war, the titanic, so on and so forth...) and they are my favorite series. If they have them in Scotland then I sugest you check them out. They're very good.
 
I love the Princess Diaries. I really don't think the movie is anything like the book however. I read the first 2 books in the Princess Diaries series. I'm hoping to read the 3rd one soon.
 
I just bought two books by Christopher Golden because I knew that they would be good. The books are part of a trilogy so I still have to get the third one. I'm still on the first book, Of Saints and Shadows. The second book is Angel Souls and Devil Hearts. And the third that I still need to buy is Of Masques and Martyrs. So far it's a good read, but yesterday I just bought The Monster Book which is about all the monsters that ever appeared on Buffy, the Vampire Slayer. I was so happy when I found it in the book store at my mall. They had more Buffy books there, but I didn't have much money with me. Well, that's the book I'm going to be reading all day, everyday, until I finish.🙂

Oh, cool. They sound quite interesting! Whos the author? Are they childish and simple or more complex?
I like the princess diaries! I ::heart:: more complicated books too but sometimes its nice to just read a 'trashy' (sorry if ive offended anyone!) book in a day!

Do you know what's a really good series? Prowlers. The series is written by Christopher Golden. That's the whole reason why I read the first book, then after that I was hooked.

It's about this guy, Jake, his sister, Courtney, and his friends, Molly, Artie, and Bill. Anyway, they're looking for these monsters, called Prowlers because they are killing innocent people for food.

Darn, I'm not good at writing reviews for books.🙁
