i'd always recomend "the hobbit" by J R R Tolkien but maybe thats cause i'm such a big fan of his books. 🙂

Phillip Pullman books are amazing-especially His Dark Materials (Northern Lights, Subtle Knife and Amber Spyglass)
Also, I've just finished Tis, the sequel to Angela's Ashes, both by Frank McCourt and they are both really good!

My teacher read The Hobbit to us (my class) in fifth grade, and I can remember it was one of my fave books. I completely forgot about it until I saw Lord of the Rings. It's a great book!

Dear America series is big in well....America. What it is is these diaries from girls (teenagers) about going though the historical events in America (slavery, revolutionary war, the titanic, so on and so forth...) and they are my favorite series. If they have them in Scotland then I sugest you check them out. They're very good.
