OK, so I am all caught up with The Mortal Instruments series and am on the last book of the Beautiful Creatures series (which makes me so sad), and my birthday is coming up in a couple of weeks, and my boyfriend said I could pick any book series I wanted and he'd buy me all the published books in it so I'd have something to read. The problem is, I can't find a series I really want to try.

Beautiful Creatures may have ruined YA fiction for me a while. The movie was a huge disappointment for me but the books are among the best-written YA books I've read in a long time, I feel, and there's enough focus on stuff aside from the romance that I can appreciate it on multiple levels. But other YA series I like tend to get sickening with the love obsession. Not all, but I'm getting tired of romance-heavy stories. The more recent YA books that I read and liked that come to mind are the Hush Hush series, the Fallen series (it was flawed but I enjoyed it more than I hated it), the Wolves of Mercy Falls, the books Lament and Ballad about faeries...

And when it comes to adult books, most supernatural/horror books that I tend to want to pick up are single novels. And some are great but others are not as well-written or maybe they seem that way because some are downright horrifically gory and have sex scenes that make me want to never have sex again. Other than Dresden Files, and Anita Blake and the Sookie books the only newer adult series I've come across is Heather Graham's Krewe of Hunters which is just...meh.

So...any ideas??? You guys have no grateful I'd be for ideas. I'm looking for at LEAST a trilogy but I'd prefer a slightly longer series. I love supernatural/horror type stuff. Romance is fine if the series has a cool and complex mythology to along with that. It seems like the most common series are urban fantasy but on Amazon and such I get totally drowned in the amount of urban fiction there is but I'd really love to find something that's more like gothic/Southern gothic similar-ish to Beautiful Creatures, or even the book A Choir of Ill Children (if anyone's read that)...

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! I only ask because after two hours of surfing Amazon I am more lost than ever.
 
If you were a girl I would recommend the House of Night series, but I'm not sure if guys would like it.

Have you read the Game of Thrones series, A Song of Ice and Fire? How about the Tanya Huff Blood Ties books?

Supernatural isn't necessarily the main focus of these books but err, they have magic in them! I'm not sure they're exactly what you're looking for but I would recommend looking these up! The Lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch, it's part of a series that's still being written. There's supposed to be about seven but he's taking his time writing the third :/

This might be more fitting to what you're on about but have you looked at novels by Kelley Armstrong in her 'women of the otherworld' series? I know it's women focused but my guy friend liked them 😛 She has a load of books and they do have the random sex scenes that seem to happen in most adult fantasy/supernatural fiction but it's not the focus! She has some YA books too that I enjoyed called The Darkest Powers trilogy.
 
Have you read The Infernal Devices: Clockwork Angel; Clockwork Prince; Clockwork Princess by Cassandra Clare?

Not really supernatural but I enjoyed the Divergent Series by Veronica Roth (the third book comes out this October)

Not series but you may enjoy: Warm Bodies: A Novel by Isaac Marion

There are also The Secret Circle series and The Vampire Diaries series by L. J. Smith that sell well. (I haven't actually read either so I don't know if they are good 😉 )

Vampire Diaries books werent anything like the TV show lol but the others, especially Divergent I found good. And I think they stopped writting secret circle books
I highly recommend the engelfors triology! It has a real buffy vibe to it, without it seeming like a rip off at all. The authors are fans. The first book is called the circle, not sure if the second one is out in english yet. But check it out! Everyone should, you wont regret it. It's honestly the best books I've read in years!
 
My friend absolutely loved the Fever serie by Karen Marie Moning. The first book is Darkfever. I personally didn't like it, but she says it's one of the best series she's ever read.

I would've recommended Delirium by Lauren Oliver, but it's not exactly supernatural and it's kinda cheesy at times. But if you're ready to read about a future where love is considered as a disease and has to be cured, it's a great book. Plus it has some not-so-subtle metaphors about choice in a society.

I enjoyed Delirium but it's almost year after I started Pandemonium, and I'm still trying to finish it.

A day or two ago it got confirmed that Bitten will become a tv-show starring Laura vad der Voort (Smallville & V).

I read "Bitten" a long time ago and remember thinking that it would make a good movie or TV show with he right actress. I dn't know if they've picked the right one or not, but I'm willing to be convinced.
Amber Benson has a 5 story book out also, im not sure if there any good, but the premise sounds interesting. They have good reviews on Amazon and stuff, but I'd imagine they could be biased 🙂

there about a young women find out her father is death and has to take over his job, and it's run kinda like a business.
 
You might try the "Monster Hunters International" series by by Larry Correlia. There are 3 books in the series so far. You should probably be warned that the author in real life trains SWAT teams, so his tactics and hardware, especially as far as weapons goes, are quite detailed, so you be prepared to learn how many shells a Remington 870 holds and what custom work the protagonist has had done to his 1911 .45 automatic. But the story is good, the action moves along at a fast rate, and the characters are quite believable.
 
Thanks to everyone for the replies, I'll look on Amazon and see what I come up with, and at the very least maybe I'll see something in the "Customers who bought this also bought..." or whatever that section is called. 🙂
 
I would recommend Robin Hobb's Farseer trilogy, you will be instantly hooked!
 
Im sure these have all been mentioned already but:

Infernal Devices series which are a prequel to Mortal instruments.

Mistborn trilogy I thought was a good one... More of a fantasy novel than a sci-fi though.

Dark materials

Vampire chronicles by Anne Rice

Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus which are pretty much the same series

Dresden files I hear are good

PS I loved the Beautiful creatures books as well 😀
