Save Hallelujah!

Following the rather depressing news that this year's X factor finalist will be covering Leonard Cohen's beautiful 'Hallelujah,' I think everyone should download the Jeff Buckley version, instead of buying the inevitably soulless version churned out by Simon Cowell's Crimbo flash in the pan.

This is not a group intended to make cruel or derogatory remarks about any participants in this years X factor, but if you love Buckley's version, let's make sure everyone forgets the pale imitation as quickly as possible.

We can make this work, and make a huge statement against the barrage of cynical manufactured pop dirtying up our charts. I am willing to download this version the week the X factor version comes out, and I know others will be too.

To make this as easy as possible we will post the download links, but make sure you WAIT UNTIL the 15th... (many thanks to Kevin Adams)

ALSO this isn't an attack on the winners of X-Factor, its a stad against what I believe is an injustice
 
I have the Cohen, the Buckley and the Wainright versions....Buckley's is a triumph for music.

I felt the same way about Leona Lewis's version of 'Run'. To me that is a song tha should not be touched, Snow Patrol got it right the first time...the song haunts you. Lewis should have stayed well away.

It was silly of any of us to think that Buckley would get a number 1 when the competition was a song by a reality TV winner that only a week ago got 8 MILLION votes to win BUT I have some great news.

Jeff Buckley managed to get a top 10 hit with Hallelujah.

His actual position was number 2!

In any week of the year against a regular release this would have been a number 1, but this isn't a regular release in a regular week so I just wanna say how magnificent this is.

I have to say I am pleased that this song will now be associated with Christmas (its actually a perfect match) AND we will get to listen to it every single year - plus this Christmas we'll get it often!
 
It was a good result I never though for a second he would do it. The X factor single is pretty unstoppable just so much hype.
 
Despite being a big X factor fan and of Alexandra I did not buy her song as I dont like her version. I am also sick of the X factor getting the Xmas number one every year, theres no surprise or exciting chart battle anymore.
I brought Jeff's version which is very good, I'm glad he charted at 2, but disappointed it wasn't number 1.
 
The X-Factor had 14 weeks of promotion, had 10 Million Viewers, had a massive following, availability in pretty much every store that has any music affiliation - it was an unstoppable juggernaut.

Jeff had one single week of Facebook/Myspace promotion, no availablity outside the internet downloads and some dedicated fans.

I don't see 2nd as anywhere near a failure, it is an unbelievable moment in the simple voice of the country.

I bet you right now Schillaci is pleased, somewhere(probably drunk as well).

I hate to agree with Clem Rocks and disagree with you but John Cale's version is by far the best...but Jeff Buckley comes a close second 😉
