I just finished "Dollhouse" for the first time not a week ago, and I'm still tripping.

True to form, Joss Whedon provided deep characters, complex story lines, shocks, emotions, pain and grief.

It's a pity Dollhouse lasted only two seasons, because I could see it easily being five.

So...I really want to talk about my feelings with this show. And I welcome all who would too!

I love Dollhouse! I thought it was an amazing serie but unfortunately, not many people share that view, most think it was decent at best. Me, well I just loved to concept so much!
 
I think there could have easily been five seasons. If that had happened, I think more people could have enjoyed it because there would have been SO much more character and plot development and major story lines (Alpha, post-apocalyptic world, Echo's evolution) would not have been so crammed and shortened.
 
I enjoyed the show. I thought that the story line was well developed, the action scenes were fantastic, especially the fights between Eliza and Penikett (more accurately, mostly their stunt doubles, but still...) and the ending of Epilog 2 was absolutely beautiful.
 
I really like the show. Haven't watched it in a while, though.
What I like about it is that the Dollhouse is this complete mystery for Paul Ballard. It's incredibly interesting to me how he slowly gets closer and closer to the truth (in season 1). Although I think the show had tremendous potential, it's OK that it only ran for two seasons. This way, it never really had the chance to get to the point where the story just slows down and you struggle to keep watching. It's interesting and gripping throughout and very complete, in my opinion.
 
I LOVE Dollhouse. After my re-watch I cried at the ending. For some reason, this series makes me very emotional. Maybe it's the pervasive sadness & desperation of the characters & storylines, or how Echo defies all odds to become her own person. I don't know but sometimes I identify with it on a deeper level than Buffy or Angel. Sure I think there were missteps in season 1, but overall I think it's vastly unappreciated. I do think there are some Buffy fans who don't get or appreciate the more subtle humor in Dollhouse & Firefly. And that's fine, it's not for everybody! But I adore sci-fi shows like this.

We did a rewatch awhile ago. I think you can find them in this forum. Also, [MENTION=12473]Evergreen[/MENTION], have you read the comics? We reviewed those too during our rewatch. I wish Joss et al would produce more of those! Anyway, welcome to BB!

I love Dollhouse! Really gripped me right from the beginning... it raised many thought provoking issues.... Haven't watched it in a while, you have made me want to do a rewatch though! 🙂
 
I didn't know there were comics! I haven't read the Buffy Season 8 or any comics of that yet either, though...

I just had such fun with Dollhouse. I mainly wanted more to see more character development. I'm a sucker for good character writing and Joss Whedon is probably the best at that that I've seen so far on TV. Plus...Sierra and Victor! Just...I can't...*snuggles*

I'll look through and find the rewatch threads. I wish I had found BB when I was doing both my Buffy rewatch and my Dollhouse first view. It would have been fun to share my fresh perspective with you all! But I am terrified of spoilers so I didn't read ANYTHING during Dollhouse. Luckily, there will be many more rewatches in my future!
 
I quite liked Dollhouse, though I feel that it was such a shame that it got wrapped up in the way it did, in the last half of season 2, I just felt that I liked Echo less whereas I feel that a longer series would have meant that her evolution would have been slower and made her more likeable for me. It was definitely more about the secondary characters for me.
 
I LOVED that about Dollhouse: that the secondary characters were as good or even bett than Echo. I loved that everyone had their own stories, and I don't think it was really established as Eliza Dushku's show, particularly with how the storyline went.

I completely agree that more seasons would mean more time for Echo to develop and thus more time for viewers to connect to her. Everything happened so quickly that it was hard to connect with her. I had a better bond with Sierra or Dr Saunders/Whiskey.
 
I think the problems with early Dollhouse mostly stemmed from the fact that the show was meant to be a vehicle for Eliza Dushku. I love ED and think she's a great actress, but Whedon's greatest strength lies in ensembley stuff, and the supporting cast wasn't developed or rounded out very well at all until the latter third of the first season.

I assume Joss and everyone else figured out that "The Echo Show" just wasn't living up to Dollhouse's potential. I was glad that the rest of the characters became bigger players as the series progressed. Season 2 was just incredible.
 
I adore Dollhouse. I think it comes across better on a 2nd viewing, because my first impression wasn't fantastic. It does seem to be a bit affected by studio interference, such as the difference in style between season 1 and 2. The idea of Echo doing assignments each week and then being wiped, wouldn't have lasted long. You can't be expected to care about a different personality each week, without any development. I'm glad we got to see a lot more, and more specifically about the ideas behind the invention of the Dollhouse itself and the philosophical aspect of what it means to be human.
 
I love Dollhouse 🙂 It's of course not as good as Buffy or Angel, but it's def an awesome show. My fav characters are Sierra and Victor <3
 
I LOVE dollhouse. The characters and the whole dollhouse thing is so deep and interesting. The actors fits the characters like a glove. My fave is Adelle Dewitt. Both for her awesome character and she looks amazing and have such an intense way of expressing feelings or being cold at the same time. Second place is Topher Brink couse he is such a nerd in a cool way. I can relate to him alot.

I dont mind that there are only 2 seasons. The seasons are just awesome and I feelt like after it was finished. I feelt fine with that. I got some kinda closeure and thats fine.
 
I'm watching Dollhouse now. I'm a few episodes in, and I have to say, it has pulled me in and piqued my interest more than Firefly ever did. But I'm not one for space cowboys at all. Still, Dollhouse introduces very unique and interesting ideas. I can't wait to finish it!

Glad to hear that you like the show. I agree about Firefly, I'm not into westerns. I do like Dollhouse and it does get better as it goes on and has an interesting concept overall.

Dollhouse is awesome! So glad you're enjoying it. And because you are I'll forget about what you said about Firefly 😉 ;P

Exactly what I thought!
It's a great show. In a world where everything is so formulaic that you can cue the actors even if you have never seen the show before, this one goes off in unexpected directions that provide... entertainment.

H. L. Mencken, the great American satirist and critic of American culture once said,

"No one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American public."

Dollhouse went to the opposite end - it overestimated the intelligence of viewers and more importantly, the willingness of the American public to embrace something new that required intelligence to appreciate. So now we get endless reality shows, Honey Boo-Boo and a show about a woman who is overweight running a dance studio. Lowest common denominator rules!
