Got a Problem/Issue? Need Advice?

Need advice....how do you take your mind off things that are upsetting you?

I just need something to do that doesn't involve thinking but no matter what I do, I still think. Sometimes it's rational (I haven't heard from the boy for awhile, he's had a lot of stuff going on and not big on the emotional sharing so I shouldn't freak out), sometimes it's not (meaning I'm internally freaking out that he'd rather talk to his friends about non-important stuff than talk to me).

When I'm at home by myself it's all that I'm thinking about. At work, there's work but not enough work to completely take over my mindspace so in the background, I'm still thinking.

I don't want to worry, but I'm known for chronic overthinking and at the moment I really want to just not think and be emotional.

Any ideas?

I find exercising til your completely wiped out does the trick. That way, you're body gets great workout, you're healthy, sexy and you dont need to think about him because you're too focused on how much your muscles hurt!

At work, if you're not busy, then write a story. I know it sounds lame...But write something which doesn't have to do with him, so you're letting you imagination delve into something else. And if you have work to do, just minimize that window and do your work. 🙂

Yeah what mogwaid said is a good idea... or some sort of sport in a club with other ppl, cause that will distract you mind too... personally... swimming does the trick perfectly for me cause you have to focus on your breathing and on perfecting your moves... :silly:

mogwaid made an excellent point! Working out is a really good idea!
I feel your pain btw, I'm also known for overthinking and stressing out to the point where I can't get anything else done and stressing out even more... I'm in the middle of writing my thesis and I'm also constatly thinking about the work that I have yet to finish... which is a lot >.<

Somethin that helps me too is going out with my friends, or dancing around ...even watching some buffy or playing a good game (fighter games or hack'n slash games work excellent when you're stressed out about something)

I hope you'll find some peace of mind, its bliss I'm looking forward to mine! 😉

Okay, my problem is a pretty big one...My boyfriend's family is moving to North Carolina (Pretty far from Dartmouth...) somtime in the middle/end of summer because of his Dad's new job...We have been dating for six months and by the time he leaves (As long as we are still together) it will be nearing a year...A lot of people have told me to break up as soon as it happens but I am not sure.

We have both sacrificed quite a lot for the sake of the relationship and I really care about him (I hesitate to say love, as I am only fifteen and have grown acustomed to people telling me that its not love...I hate it when people say stuff like that, so I will stick to care). I helped him through as much as I could when his ex girlfriend was killed a month ago and he has helped me through my worst family times...We worked through our biggest relationship problem a couple months ago and have been great since then...

I really want to continue in a long distance relationship and I believe he does as wll but I am not sure if this is the smart thing to do or not...we do have some differences in the time we like to spend together and this could be a bigger issue when we can only see each other once every 3 months or so...I really don't know what to do.

This is dumb...but how about thinking about not thinking about it? Just keep that constantly flowing..."Don't think about..."

you're in quite a situation lindseyiswicked.
All I can say is talk to your boyfriend and see how he feels about it, either way its going to be a difficult problem. If you decide to take the easy way and split up it might be hard for a while but it will get better as it alwas does, like you say you're only fifteen. But if you find your relationship is worth it (it seems pretty intense and you have been through some serious stuff together) you can be stubborn and try to stay together, you'll miss eachother like crazy and its no guarantee your relationship will stay the same, your and his feelings will change during your separation.

I have some experience with long distance relationships, since my boyfriend and I were separated for half a year last year. We both went to Japan on foreign exchange and I came back early. The whole experience was such a strain on our relationship (because I was terribly homesick and felt unhappy in Japan to the point of not being myself anymore and slowly sinking into a depression) that he actually broke up with me while in Japan, for about two weeks. I was devastated and got to a point where I was fearing for my mental and physical health that I made the (in my case) wise decision to return home after half a year. After making that decision it felt like a huge burden fell off my shoulders and I was able to come back to myself again and actually enjoy the remaining period that I had left in Osaka. My boyfriend of course noticed the diffrence and regretted what he had done almost immediately, resulting in a very strange and confuzing situation where we were 'together but not really',since I was going home and things were still a little strained between us since I stopped trusting him. I can't explain it better then that.
However, because things were a little better between us we kept in touch everyday, my boyfriend learned that he missed me a lot and I was able to put things in perspective. I can't say my feelings towards him haven't changed, especially when he first came back after 6 months it was very strange and we still had a lot of things to deal with, which we are still doing today. (as you might have noticed in earlier posts of mine in this thread) but after all I am happy that I was so stubborn and we both found eachother again in the end, however its no guarantee... when we were separated I adjusted to my life alone again, it was good for me since I found myself again, but it meant taking some distance from our relationship and from him. In a way I can say that our relationship might be less serious since. we still care for eachother, but in my case, I loved him, before we went to Japan, I wouldn't exactly express what I feel now as love...I would however like to get back to that point since I am a hopeless romantic and maybe naive and I strive to having a relationship where I can love a person and I know that person loves me back just as much. i know I am capable of that love and anything less then that is open to improvement in my opinion 😉

anyway, in your case I would advise you to take some time and think about what your relationship is worth to you, no one can do that for you and sometimes it even takes some time apart to realize whats the what. I would talk to your boyfriend a lot, boys might not like to 'talk and talk and talk' (I know mine doesn't anyway), but its really important that you are open and honest with eachother. If you both come to the conclusion that you want to give the long distance relationship a try, I'd say go for it (I'm proof that it can work) but know that it will take a lot of work and there are no guarantees.

I wish you all the best and keep in mind that if its meant to be it somehow will happen, might be corny, but I stick to it 😉
I hope my story/advice will be usefull to you and feel free to contact me if you still have questions or want to get smething off your chest.

Thanks! I might PM you later if I have questions, but for now thats awesome!
Only from my experience, i don't think long distance ever works.
It's so hard to be with someone and not actualy be there next to them and i felt myself falling out of love because i wasn't able to be around the little things that i love about them each day. The conversations got awkward because we ran out of things to say and it was better for us when it ended,we managed to keep in touch.
Your only 15 are you sure you want to spend your fun teen years with someone you won't see alot?

Your only 15 are you sure you want to spend your fun teen years with someone you won't see alot?

I cannto really say for sure...I have had people ask me if i wanted to spend my teen years in such an emotional and sometimes hard relationship...I got through the hard part and it was a complete yes...I am a strange teenager and had no real interest in dating before Brandan asked me out...I said yes because I really liked him and could see myself in a relationship with him, I would not go looking for anyone after we broke up...I would actually like to spend my "fun" teen years with someone I would not get to see a lot because I know we would be able to talk a lot and see each other every three months or so...

The rest of your post I cannot say anything about (I have had other people say that and argue against it and I really do not know...). Though I can say the things I love about my boyfriend I've noticed easily over the phone and webcam...

Then i guess talk to him and see how he feels about it all and if you both agree to keep it going then trust your hearts and dont listen to what others think because only you both will know how you feel and loves different for everyone 🙂

I agree with Raiys...it can work...but it's quite a bit harder and you really can't look at it the same way as you would view a relationship you have with someone that you can see everyday.

If it's what you want to do Lindsayiswicked, then by all means go for it. The least that you'll get from this is learning what it's like.

Whichever you decide, best of luck hon.

good point!
Okay sporty/fit type people....what's the best way of getting rid of muscle aches.

I did a fitness session on Wednesday night that involved a lot of stair work (our trainer just loves the stairs). Was okay on Thursday morning when I had another session but come yesterday afternoon I was wishing my legs would just drop off!

They're aching from hip to ankle and I haven't felt this bad since I first started doing these sessions which was about 6 months ago. I've tried the muscle ache stuff that I have (you know, the type that heats up) but it's not helping....they now just feel hot and sore!

Not a particularly serious problem...I would love some tips as to how to best combat this though....please?

Well I would not call myself that sporty a person but I suffered from some pretty bad muscle aches when I started playing tennis frequently...

I always took long baths right after the exercise...usually a couple of hours in the tub, always making sure the waterstayed between lukewarm and hot. Usually when I got out the muscle pains were nearly gone. If that did not work I took a couple advil and rested for a bit till they were gone. Usually if that did not work I just had to suffer through them, unless you have money for a massage I find those are the best way to handle aches.

Baths work miracles sometimes
What also helps is stretching (duh ^.^') and getting a nice (boy)friend that will give you a massage. Mine's an athlete so he has all kinds of muscle-repairatory lotions and stuff 🙂

oh and I always take a sauna/steambath when I'm done at the gym... those work wonders too...But if you don't have those at your gym, maybe a hot water bottle or cherry pit pillow?

and if all else fails I find not moving to be most effective 😉

Yea I'd say stretching is the best way to get rid of it, slowly warming up your body and muscles, that's what I do anyway. Stretching right after workout is the best thing, but I guess it's a bit late for that (I always forget that, and I'm always angry with myself the day after when I wake up with muscle aches..)

I play soccer, the most painful female sport in the universe. Stretch like crazy before and after the workout.. and I know this isn't gonna be the most comfortable treatment but it works, I swear. ICE BATHS! As soon as you get home, take one, then apply some Icy-Hot if you want. I used to get horrible horrible shin splints and the pain eventually spread all over my legs, and this worked wonders! Hope it helps you.

Hmm - I always thought a hot shower asap helps keep your muscles from getting sore...

Really? I mean, what cleansing technique do you recommend? You play football right? Do you have like, a communal shower facility at the field where you play? Do you get some of the other female players to help soothe those aches in hard to reach places? A find a good massage after a tough game goes down a treat. Turn up the heat on the water...get the steam flowing..mmm

I'm sorry, what pervert,.. eh I mean planet am I on again?

uh, I think I need one of those ice baths FreakyD was talking about..
