Great Line Deliveries

A thread devoted to some the best line deliveries in the show. i.e. quotes based on the actor's pitch, tone, expression, etc, not necessarily the quality of the quote itself. (Obviously some of the best quotes were delivered expertly, but let's keep it more personal as we know what all those quotes are.)

Some of my personal favorites:

Buffy: "Everything here is so hard and bright and violent. Everything I feel. Everything I touch. This is hell."

Spike: "Sorry, love. I don't speak Chinese."

Andrew: "In my plan... we are beltless."

Giles: "I'd like to test that theory."

Drusilla: ".....Don't need a purse."

Anya: "All you care about is lots of orgasms"

Buffy-Bot: "If-we-want-her-to-be-exactly-she'll-never-be-exactly-I-know-the-only-really-real-Buffy-is-really-Buffy-and-she's-gone' who?"

Spike: "Every night I save you..."

Principal Snyder: "Whoa, Summers! You drive like a spaz!"

Vamp Willow: "Bitch."

Buffy: "Willow check you out! Witch foo!"

Willow: Ooo, Scott Hope at eleven o'clock. He likes you. He wanted to ask you out last year, but you weren't ready then. But I think you're ready now, or at least in the state of pre-readiness to make conversation, or-or to do that thing with your mouth that boys like. Oh! I didn't mean the *bad* thing with your mouth, I meant that little half-smile thing that you... (glares at Oz) You're supposed to stop me when I do that.

Angel: "I'm a funny guy"

Buffy: "Gosh, I'd love to sign up, but I recently developed carpal tunnel syndrome and can tragically no longer hold a flashlight."

Xander: "Can I just say Gyughhh!"
Buffy: "I see your 'Gyughhh!' and raise you a Nyaghhh!"

...of course, there's more. I'll think of some when they come to me. What about yours?

This is the first one that comes to mind (at the end of this string, Giles' line):

Giles: Grave robbing. That's new. Interesting.

Buffy: I know you meant to say gross and disturbing.

Giles: Yes, yes, yes, of course. Terrible thing. Must - must put a stop to it. Dammit.

I know theres loads for Willow, she says loads of stuff in the cute way, and I can picture aly's face more then the line, lol

Buffy: "I am sixteen years old. I don't wanna die."

Willow: "You cannot have more catnip! You have a catnip problem!"

Willow: "I like money better than people. People can so rarely be exchanged for goods and/or services."

Willow: "I am not a vampire!"

Anya: "Yes. I'm thinking about buying something very expensive. Maybe an antelope."

Snyder: "I mean, it's incredible. One day the campus is completely bare. Empty. The next, there are children everywhere. Like locusts. Crawling around, mindlessly bent on feeding and mating. Destroying everything in sight in their relentless, pointless desire to exist."

Cordelia: "I'll date whoever the hell I wanna date. No matter how lame he is."

Xander: "Yes, he is. And you should go to him. 'Cause he's me."

Xander: "Not just any girl. You're special."

Tara: "And, by the way, most horses don't like arm very much."

Dawn: No! No no no! I'm totally not here! You guys, you do whatever you want. Um ... I'll go watch TV. Downstairs, really loud! In the basement. Where I can't hear anything. Oh my god! I love you guys!

Joyce: "I mean, just as long as the two of you are spending some quality time with ... the lord."

Jenny: "he part that gets me, though, is where Buffy is the Vampire Slayer. She's so little."

Xander: "Don't let him get to you. He's not the same guy you knew."

Cordelia: "I guess you should know, since you helped raise that demon that killed that guy that time?"

Cordelia: "Super. I kicked a guy!"

Willow: "And if you two aren't with me a hundred and ten percent, then get the hell out of my library!"

Willow: "No, there's "woo" and, and "hoo." But there's "uh-oh," and... "why now?" And... it's complicated."

Okay, I will stop before quoting half the show. 🙂

I always think of Giles in The Wish.



Anya: "Trusting fool! How do you know the other world is any better than this one?"

And Giles says, "Because it has to be." and the way that ASH says it is perfect.

Anthony Head has two in Amends that I love (and I say Anthony because, let's face it, this thread is about the incredible talent this cast has - these lines may have been well written, but the delivery by the actor is what makes them great):

"And the funny keeps on coming."

And this one - I can't explain why I love it, but Angel tells Giles he can't come in unless he's invited, and Giles comes back around the corner and levels the crossbow at Angel, says, "I'm aware of that," steps into the light, and says "Come in" in this meek, hesitant voice that is such a complete contrast to the bad-ass crossbow that it gets me every time.

In the scene in Hole in the World, where Spike and Angel are arguing about cavemen vs. astronauts, and Wesley comes in -- from the beginning of that scene until the end every.single.line delivered by all three actors is absolutely pitch perfect.

Spike- If I had to do it all over again... I WOULD DO IT THE EXACT SAME WAY, except I would have done this! *kills the annointed one*

Willow- I'm eating this banana now, lunchtime be damned!

Oh yeah, and

Cordelia- I'll date whoever the hell I wanna date, no matter how lame he is.

And then there was that one scene in "Phases" from season 2 when Giles says something like, "Werewolves, a classic. How exciting! I don't remember the exact wording though.

From Amends I love the whole Angel/ Buffy interaction at the end just before the snow comes, especially Angel's "Am I a thing worth saving? Am I a righteous man?!" and Buffy's "...But if you die now then all you ever were was a monster!"

Also, in Entropy, for some reason I crack up when Spike walks into the magic shop and says "I need a thing."

Anya, Xander, Buffy and Giles have way too many for me to mention, and so does Angel's series but I'll end with two I really love from Gunn:

Gunn- "Okay, that was a thing." (when seeing those creepy, slug monsters for the first time).

Gunn- "That was the plan? Walking really fast was the plan?"

I forgot to add Buffy's reactions to drinking whiskey (or whatever that was) with Spike! I laugh at every single weird noise she makes after each drink! 😀

Giles: The smell.
Jenny: Computers don't smell Rupert.
Giles: I know. Smell is the most powerfull trigger for memories there is. A certain flower or the smell of smoke, they can bring up experiences ong forgotten!Learning has to smell.

I think Giles is right there. But I have nothing nothing against computers too.
