Great News for Crystal Maze fans!

I'm not keen on Ayoade, I just never liked his style of comedy. There are other comedians who do sarcastic humour so much better. I agree that Stephen Merchant was a good host. I'd rather crystal maze be a celebrity type thing because the one off was really enjoyable and I don't think it would've been with non-celebrities.

Not even with Merchant as host? The problem with celebrity versions is that their very hit and miss and sometimes their just too cosy. I think part of the appeal of the original concept was that ordinary people could take part and that strangers had to work together as a team.

I do like Ayoade. I just don't think he has the right sort of delivery for this sort of thing.

Merchant played very well off the celebrities but if it had been ordinary people, I don't think he would've known them enough to play off of them, it would've been very straitlaced.
 
Well I didn't like the new version they did last year, I'll give it a watch but I'm not expecting much. I'll stick to watching the old shows on Challenge if I want a Crystal Maze fix!
 
I love Richard Ayoade. I wasn't that fond of the celebrity version, a normal person version sounds much better. There are enough "celebrity" shows on TV....

How do you think Ayoade compares with the style that SM brought to the show? For me Merchant was much closer to style of O'Brien and therefore more suited as the host. I did enjoy the celebrity one off, but am pleased that it was just a one off😉

I only watched the celebrity special because it was a one off. The Crystal Maze never interested me when I was younger.

What I would like to see though is a celebrity crystal maze where all the contestants are comedians. Just imagine the likes of Jimmy Carr, Lee Mack, Hugh Dennis, John Richardson and Sarah Millican all doing the Crystal Maze together. 🙂

Fair enough if you didn't like the original (though we need words over that😉). I like your idea for the comedians special and think it could be good. But that only works as a one off I wouldn't want to see that all the time. And to me the original format did work with members of the public. It was funny and entertaining because of O'Brien as the host. And format of the game itself was sustainable and made for good viewing.
