One of the books I have on Buffy has a section on this and I thought it would be fun to see what other people choose.

Pick a moment or scene that you think is the greatest for a character or a defining moment for the character (for good or bad).

Example: In 'Innocence' when Angelus writes 'What it good for you too?' on the wall in blood, that's a defining moment for the character. Even better is, he doesn't even appear on screen for it.

My pick is slight compared to some but I have to go with when Tara, having her hand crushed by Glory, refuses to tell her who the Key is. She shows her true strength and loyalty to the Scoobies in that scene. The sound of her bones breaking and the blood pouring out of her hand always makes me wince.

What are your picks?

I've moved this thread to the Inside Out forum as I think it sits better here. I think the previous forum (Crew, Cast and Characters) is more appropriate for posts about individual C,C or C 🙂

I agree with your Tara choice btw.

If i may make a suggestion, how about the thread starter says one character, everyone weighs in on that character's finest moment, and then we move on to someone else.

Good idea. We'll go in order that the characters are listed in the credits.

What is Buffy Summers greatest moment?

I'll hold mine until I see what everyone else has to say.

When she jumped into the portal at the end of the gift. She wasn't fighting, or making smart remarks, or planning some ingenious sceme--She was just Buffy, doing whatever it took to save the world, even if she couldn't save herself along with it.

I decided not to wait to post mine.

It has to be 'Becoming Pt. 2' when she sends Angel to hell. Yeah , he comes back, but she didn't know that at the time, she thought it was a one-way trip. And she had to do it after she gets the one thing she wanted more than anything back (namely the Angel she loved rather than Angelus). She did it cause she knew she had to. In a life full of sacrifices, this was Buffy's greatest, even greater than giving her own life.

I think the most defining moment as a character is when she decided to face the Master in Prophecy Girl (Season 1). It is then that she truely establishs herself as a slayer, willing to give her life in order to try to save the world. She knows that the prophecy states that the Master will rise and she will die, but she still has to go fight.

I think facing off against Faith in Graduation Day. She was ready to put aside her own values to save the life (unlife) of someone important to her.

Buffy seems to have run the course so on to the next character:

Xander Harris.

What do you think is Xander's finest moment?

Being the heart of the team, I think he has many, but my favorite is the little talk he gives Dawn at the end of 'Potential' when he says she isn't special but extraordinary. It gets me all choked up.

What are some of yours?

Xander's a personal favorite, and he had so many great character moments through the first five seasons. But one that always sticks out in my mind is his actions in Becoming part 1. In the library attack scene, he keeps fighting, even though he's unarmed, outmatched, outnumberd, outpowered and eventually, fighting with the use of only one hand. He goes down, but he goes down a hero.

That's a great one. Another Xander moment I always liked is in "When She Was Bad"-when he stands up to Buffy for Willow. Someone here has that scene in their sig, but I can't remember who.

Hmmm...Xander's a hard one for me...

But I guess I'd have to choose Grave, when he saved the world with words...
It was just...it just summed Xander up perfectly - he isnt a fighter, and he didnt try and fight Willow, he just used words, which was what he was always good at.

[ See 'Potential' ]

Heheheheh...but that's my defining moment for Xander 🙂

Annie has it, made by moi. I do love that moment.

I think I can remember Nick saying it was "The Zeppo" because that was when his character grew up but that was probably from an interview at the end of S3.

Personally, hmm. The Replacement has to have a mention but maybe Hell's Bells (sorry Lee) but he learnt he doesn't have to meet people's expectations to do the right thing.

For Xander
I think it's in Becoming part 2
Xander: "I love you"
Willow: *squeezes his hand and becomes conscious* "Oz?"
And Oz came in.
Xander just stepped back because Oz was the person she loved and made her happy. He just stepped back and smiled at them. Xander let go of jealousy at that moment.

Moving on..

So That was Xander.. Now moving along 'till Willow.. What's your favoruite moments with her? I'm not able to pick a favourite, she has so many good moments..

But what's yours?

Favorite Willow moment:

When she tells Buffy in "Choices" that she would rather stay in Sunnydale and help in the fight than attend a good school

Thanks for saving me the trouble (when anyone thinks the current character has run their course, feel free to move on).

This is a tough one, as Willow is my favorite character. But I also love the little moments, so I would have to go with the end of 'Choices' when Willow, who can go to any college in the country (and a few in Europe) chooses to attend UC Sunnydale along with Buffy. She says it's not all about Buffy, but you can see Willow doesn't want to leave her best friend.

Edit: Slayer beat me to it.

I'd say in The Gift, when she grabs Glory and Tara and gives Tara back her sanity. Not only was it a very impressive spell, Willow's attitude in that scene was just spot-on perfect
