NBC has announced that the supernatural pilot Grimm, starring David Guintoli as a homicide detective who encounters strange creatures right out of the Grimms' mythology, has been picked up for the fall season.

Grimm is from David Greenwalt, co-creator of Angel, and Angel alumnus Jim Kouf, who's also known for hit screenplays like National Treasure and Rush Hour.

Here's the official description from the network:

Grimm is a new drama series inspired by the classic Grimm's Fairy Tales. Remember the fairy tales your parents used to tell you before bedtime? Those weren't stories--they were warnings. Nick Burkhardt (David Guintoli, Turn The Beat Around) thought he prepared himself for the realities of working as a homicide detective until he started seeing things he couldn't quite explain. When his ailing Aunt Marie (guest star Kate Burton, Grey's Anatomy) arrives, Nick's life turns upside down when she reveals they are descendants of an elite group of hunters, also known as "Grimms," who fight to keep the balance of humanity safe from the supernatural creatures of the world. As Nick digs deeper into her past, he realizes that he will have to shoulder the responsibility of his ancestors--and contend with a larger-than-life mythology of the Brothers Grimm that is now all too real.

I just read about this in an article about NBC's new shows (it and Anthony Head's show are the only ones interesting to me)- it sounds really, really good. And David Greenwalt- yeah! I do wish some Whedon alums were in it heh-heh. But I will probably check it out.

And this would be why I HATE television shows.. I think.. Friday, opposite Fringe.. it will get canceled.. why bother.

Oh shoot, I didn't see that. Well, with DVR, On Demand, and Hulu Plus, hopefully we can watch both. 🙂

VisionGirl agrees: Totally OT, but what is your avatar referring to? Is that the Tardis?

Yeah, it's a Doctor Who thing. 🙂

Nope Fringe is on FOX and Supernatural is on the CW :)
This is exciting, I just watched the trailer and it looks pretty damn good. I don't watch Fringe so I'll be watching SPN and recording this.

Looks ok, but I'll stick with SPN too...this looks like someone watched the SPN ep with the girl in a coma and the fairy tales and...
Hm well I do love the Grimm fairytales but the trailer held little appeal to me. Feels a little bit like an old theme just re-hashed and I can't say I got a good vibe of the lead guy. I might give it a chance but it's nothing I feel excited about.

Looks okay I am not going to get to excited because these days it is hard for shows to make it. I can't help but get excited for the other show though the one with Aidan Quinn I really like him.
LOL the show based on Chelsea Handler's life I am shocked it is ok for regular TV. I think that may make it but we will see.

I thought it looked interesting. I don't have cable so I've never seen Supernatural or Fringe. Any TV watching I do is either on DVD or Hulu (which I only discovered a few months ago anyway).
