Because of her tireless drive to affect climate change, the "Word of the Year" in the Collins dictionary is Climate Strike. Maybe someone should define what a word is to the dictionary people as that is actually two words, but that's not Greta's fault. She's making noticable change already.

Collins lists this year’s runners-up as “deepfake,” “double down,” “nonbinary,” and “influencer.”

(I voted for deepfake... that will be a word that lives in infamy in the coming years)

Well, it is an open compound noun. It functions as one word, even if they stand apart. In my language, all compounds are written as a single word, so you never have to be confused as to whether it's police man or policeman.

Greta would just write klimatstrejk. One word, signifying one concept. Simple.

So, the dictionaries did not use to have open compounds, such as bus stop or post office or lawn mower? I bought my first dictionary way into the noughties, so I have no way to check, but it sounds strange to me.

Those were/are all two words. You would look up lawn and look up mower. The dictionary was always one-word words. I bought my first dictionary way into late 70s, so it looks strange to me to see two words in the dictionary. Not that I have actually bought a real dictionary in years, mind you.

I remember for compound words (or objects) such as lawn mower, bus stop, etc, you (or at least I) had an encyclopedia set that you would have to go to for the information. Maybe the current dictionaries are an amalgamation of the two.

There was an influencer at work yesterday but I sent her home and quickly disinfected the area. Don't need anyone at work with the flu influencing others. Note: if you have the flu don't be an influencer, stay at home.

Especially if they're small influencers, they influence the most when they have the flu.

Because influencers gain influence and perks of being an influencer based, in part, by how many likes their posts receive. By giving a review of a hotel (which the hotel comps their stay for a favorable review) the hotel can look and see they had 3, 4 thousand likes for this review it essentially pays for their marketing ie influencer stay; as it brings that amount of new eyes to their product/service. But without having those metrics available places may be more hesitant to partake in said campaigns as there is no way to judge when a person says I get X number people reading my posts that they do in fact have that.
