I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet. Ah well.

Alright this is two films made into one giant one, just like they did in the 70's and early 80's. One is directed by Quentin Tarantino(Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction), and another by Robert Rodriguez(El Mariachi, Sin City)

Quentin's half is called "Death Proof", and it's a tribute to slasher films. It stars Kurt Russel as "Stuntman Mike", who stalks and kills several girls, most of whom are stunt women. But instead of using a knife, machete, or chainsaw, he uses his car, which has been made to be "death proof".

Robert's half is called "Planet Terror", a tribute to zombie films. It stars Rose McGowan as "Cherry", a stripper, and Freddy Rodràguez as "Wray", a martial arts expert, as they battle the sickos, infected people who will eat anything in their way.

Both films will have onscreen artifacts (scratches and dirt, and even missing footage [up to 20 minutes at once]) and sound problems to add authenticity to the grindhouse feel, since the theatres these films were originally shown in were dumpy and the film quality poor.

So, what do you guys think? It comes out today in America as one whole film, but for those who live in europe it comes out in two different movies. Sorry european guys, you've gotta pay for both showings.

Wiki:

During the 2007 Berlin Film Festival, Glen Basner, responsible for international releases for The Weinstein Company, made clear that the film would be split in two in non-English speaking countries. The films would be called Grindhouse: Planet Terror and Grindhouse: Death Proof, and will be released approximately 2 months apart.[15] The Faux trailers for Death Proof will be directed by Rodriguez, while those for Planet Terror will be by Tarantino. No mention was made of the trailers by Roth or Zombie.[16][17] European fans of Tarantino have expressed their outrage in film forums and with online petitions, with many suggesting they will boycott the films, or possibly illegally download them. While The Weinstein Company has stated that the film will be split because non-American audiences have no experience with the concept of double features. However, many European fans see it as an attempt to increase profits by forcing audiences to pay twice for a film that is shown as a single entity in the United States.[18]

Its not out here til June 🙁 Ive been waiting for months to see it and I still have another 2 to go. Not happy

I almost went to go see that last night but watched The Reaping instead. Not really sure how this movie is going to go over. 3 hours is a long time to sit in a movie theatre.

Not really. Lord of the Rings was over 3 hours. Harry Potter is about that long too.

I've heard that Death Proof is no good - too much dialogue (of course it's Tarantino so we all saw that coming). Planet Terror is apparently hilarious. And up to 20 min of missing footage is right!

I can't wait to see it!

Which is why I waited for the DVDs for both of those movies. Anything over two and a half hours is way too much for my attention span to take. Maybe that's just me.
