Kaydence Tantra
Played by Alexa Davalos
Kaydence was born one half of two twins to Cameron and Amara Tantra on June 21st, 1984, in Orlando, Florida. Her twin sister, Kali, was born a full twelve hours before her "“ at midnight on June 21st, as opposed to Kaydence's midday. From the start, people knew that there was going to be something truly magical about these two twins; both born at the strike of 12 from two powerful wiccan parents. Cameron and Amara were firm believers in the wiccan religion, yet they wanted their daughter to be able to choose whether or not wicca was a path that they wanted to follow. So while they didn't hide their religion from them "“ on the contrary, they taught them some of the basic theories "“ they kept all spells and magickal opportunities away from them; wanting the girls to wait until they were old enough to handle the potential power that they could wield.
Even for most of their lives, Kaydence and Kali were two very different, yet, at least at first, very close people. Kali was always the smart one between them, easily the smartest person in their grade. Yet being smart didn't always make her happy. She was quiet, subdued, and almost an outcast in the school "“ completely the opposite to Kaydence. Kaydence who, with identical looks to Kali, seemed somehow to shine, her natural vibrance making her all the more beautiful. And as Kaydence grew in popularity and confidence, she slowly but surely started to cast aside the inseparable bond between them. She never even noticed that she was pushing her sister aside, into a dark corner which she would never crawl out of.
It was when they turned 16 that the choice "“ as subconscious as it was "“ came. Unbeknownst to everyone in the family, Kali had been secretly practicing spells, and had become quite accomplished at what she did. Late that night, when Kaydence returned home from partying with a group of friends from school, Kali finally turned on her, letting loose the hurt and anger she had bottled up inside, in a torrent of battering magick. There were many reasons for her sister's sudden outburst but the major one was this "“ Kali resented being "left behind" by the one person in the world she had ever been close to. By the time Kali finished Kaydence, battered, bruised, and exhausted, was left with only one option "“ to leave and never come back. Writing a tearful goodbye letter to her mother and father, she stuffed a few things in a backpack, including some money, and fled. She bought herself a plane ticket to Seattle, Washington, where she had an aunt. When she got to Seattle, however, she found to her dismay that her Aunt was no longer living where Kaydence expected her to be; and had left no forward address. Alone, physically exhausted, and mentally fatigued, in a strange city, she was at a loss to what she could do next.
For the next few weeks, until her money began to rapidly run out, she stayed in cheap motel rooms. She called home several times to check up on her parents, worried about what Kali may have done to them, but every time she called, Kali answered the phone, and she hung up without a word. Kaydence was just a former cheerleader, someone who had never had a reason to listen to those lessons on survival, or the lectures on demonology that Cameron had forced her into. Which is why she made that one fateful mistake that changed her life completely "“ she went out, alone and defenceless into the darkest depths of the city beneath a full moon.
She was walking through an alley, an alley which she hoped to be a shortcut to her destination, when she was attacked from behind. She was later told that the creature which had attacked her was a werewolf, but all she knew at the time was that someone "“ someone thing "“ was biting, tearing, and clawing at her right shoulder and side. By the time the crew of demon hunters killed it, Kaydence was no longer even conscious; close to death as a result of the huge blood loss.
Two weeks later, she was beginning to recover. The demon fighting gang had taken her back to there warehouse-like headquarters, and helped her, with what little medical knowledge and equipment that they had. And while she could have left then, something drove her to stay with them, to remain and begin fighting for their cause. They trained her furiously, and she began learning the street-fighting and martial arts ways that were so highly valued. The street knowledge she gained was more than enough to keep her alive. She could use many weapons, including swords, sais, stakes, axes, chains, and even handguns flawlessly. This new physical prowess was used for one thing and one thing only "“ to eradicate the demons, vampires, and evil witches (much like her sister) that she had come across.
If there's one thing that she learned, it was to be ruthless in her path to what she wanted to achieve. Once she sets her mind on a worthwhile goal, she will do almost anything it takes to get there. While she respects human life and the value it holds, her heart has hardened to the "lesser beings" in society; the low lives, criminals, and those humans who hug the darkness around them. While she is extraordinarily cool and level headed in times of danger, this only works to her advantage "“ she will never give up. Needing to discover more about herself, to take time away from the group hunting, she left the gang, and began prowling the streets of Seattle"¦ alone"¦
