My mum has citrus in pots that goes ok. My neighbour has a fig tree that he transplanted from one he dug up, and it survived well, but the fruit has fallen off before it was ready so I guess it needs a few years to adjust after moving. I'd go with plum over fig cos i dont like figs, but make sure its the type that doesn't need two to fruit.


I have a pumpkin!

A green pumpkin? Recently planted or is this a specific type?
Well I spent too much today, but should have enough supplies for all my planting.
Also bought a small fig tree, won't see any fruit this year, but maybe next year if I'm lucky. Got a red currant plant as well, those are both in large pots. Bought another two large pots for spinach and mint to grow in, as they do tend to spread and take over.
I'm still debating on another soft fruit, got 2 blueberry plants, strawberries and now red currants, I could do a raspberry or some other one?
After this cold spell goes I'll start doing my seeds, got plenty of seeds, compost and pots/trays to start them in.
 
I killed my kale 😭 first I forgot about it, so had to revive them in a plate of water. And then the slaters got them! So I planted out their sorry bodies and the snails finished them off. Next time prep the soil and get the rest done before I buy the babies!

My snail population seems to be recovering from my old ducks. The neighbours said theirs have been bad, but they arnt in depressing numbers here yet.

It is getting humid now so I better check that pumpkin and hope it is done before it rots! @Plasma it is a kent pumpkin, they are orange inside with green skin. This grew from seeds from a shop purchased pumpkin. The pears need checking. I planted out some Mallow but its way too late, they've popped up but doubt they will grow to flower in time.

I got some of these seeds, mostly as they were going cheap, no idea if they will grow though, got plenty of regular seeds if nothing comes of these. I planted a lettuce and spinach one yesterday. If it grows ill transfer the spinach into a larger pot and the lettuce will go in the ground
 
There is a giant pumpkin competition at the town show coming up. I dont think I want to risk my pumpkin becoming unedible, but I am not really sure when I should pick it either. Maybe a few more days...
 
I picked the pumpkin. I should have left it a few more days, but its a shop size now and I did not want to risk it to rot! Havent cut it open yet... I dont have any room in my freezer so I hope I can palm some off to people!
 
It's due to rain all day on Sunday 😭 I'll still go up as the seeds I have planted will probably need a watering by then. I must remember to take a pen up with me so I can actually label what I have sown. I might start some leek seeds as well, but I'll leave most of my seeds now until next month.
 
My neighbour brought some tomatoes over this morning and I chopped the pumpkin, but as predicted, it needed a bit longer.

He didnt want any but I can still use it in cooking (which he will probably want lol). I think he wanted a sticky beak at the back yard cos I havent taken him out there for ages but im so bad at social stuff, I didnt figure out that was what he was hinting at until later. Now I feel bad ha. I will do more social skills training and bring him some pears next week.

I want to grow pumpkins! I used to do it every halloween

Still sliced in the fridge, havent got round to cooking it yet!
Weather is looking less wet for tomorrow woo!
I'm going start off a few seeds tomorrow and label the ones I've already done.
Aldi have some gardening items in, so I might pop in and see what they have but I don't really need to buy anything more at the moment. The website is showing water butt's for a good price though.
 
Had a great day up at the allotment today. Went to the car boot first and got a hoe and rake for £1.50 each, so finally got the plot looking less full of weeds! Got some seeds started off, and repotted a few that I started before.
Went to the supermarket for cat food, and bought a raspberry and blackcurrant plant as well, £2.29 each, so that's a bargain if they grow and fruit. They've now been repotted and watered in, I did crack my pots while making drainage holes though.
 
Hot and dry this week so it will be a struggle getting enough water on everything.

Cucumbers are done. Mallow popped up but i think its too late for it. Pumpkin vine is still flowering but no other pumpkins have stuck. I am still getting the odd grape off the grape vine!

I'm thinking of doing some sweet potatoes like this, letting them sprout and then planting them and seeing what I get.

The kale that the previous guy planted, but seems like never picked, looks like its going to seed now, so I'll dig that up soon, taking off any good leaves first.

@Dogs of Winter I haven't really grown anything yet, only taken on the plot recently. The previous guy had quite a bit there already, but I left that to him, had a few of the leeks but that's it really. Felt guilty having his stuff even though he said to have some
 
Rain came today! Very excellent relief. A lot of trees have been suffering in this heat and I hope they bounce back. Most of my garden is not edible and takes a lot of maintenance just to stay alive. The hedges will need trimming again soon and I have been bulking up my kindling pile with off cuts of overgrown bushes. Since the rain came, the weeds are starting to pop up, so I got that bulk poison just in time. I've tried all of the natural alternatives and none of them work. I'd love a little lazor robot that zaps the weeds dead, but since they all but soak this town in round up anyway, the yard is exposed to it regardless so I might as well use the cheapest and easiest option there is. Until they do ban it haha.

Picked some pears today, still a bit under ripe but large in size. They are gona really benefit from this rain. Picked the last golden nashi and left the single red apple on to see how much of a boost the rain can give it.

Frogs were back on the patio last night, so I am glad I have the pond suitable for them 🙂 no poison around the pond! And its under cover so no drift can get there there either. Hoya is in bloom and absolutely beautiful 😍
 
Planted garlic today, did one bulb today and have another that I'll plant in a few weeks, but I'll have to keep an eye on the bulb, if the cloves look like they need planting earlier.

Also rearranged my windowsill and now have done some seeds again, tomatoes, celeriac, leek and purple sprouting broccoli. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll see growth from them.

I'm going to a garden centre tomorrow, okay its a family meet up in the cafe to discuss the ancestry dna results from the kit I got dad for Christmas, but garden centre...
 
I survived the family at the garden centre! Only bought two packs of seeds and two herb plants; chocolate mint and lemon thyme.
The seeds were seed tapes, of carrots and lettuce, so I put one of the carrot down. Didn't really plan to do anything up there so my tools were still in the car, however had a screwdriver in my bag so that's now coated in mud and I might have carrots!
 
I remember going around my friends house in school and she would grow pears and strawberries.

They tasted so nice once there were a few bugs on them though so we couldn't eat those ones

Pears and strawberries are both pick-able in my garden right now too :)
There's a house just around the corner from my dad, fruit trees in their front garden, pears and apples and it all just goes to waste, they don't pick any of it.
