That's awesome. I don't know about 100 years, but most characters or shows fail to stand the test of time, let alone nearly a decade after it ends. So far, our girl's making progress!

No. I really don't. Not because it isn't good enough. Even with vampires being a trend Buffy fandom is still pretty small around the world. It also have to compete with so much other fandoms. It doesn't stand out in the way of "everyone" knowing who she or the show is. Not saying that the fandom for T is huge or even big. I really have no idea. But well known for sure.

I can't help but wonder, how "big" and as much of an icon is T with people aged 25 and under?

Though not as popular among those aged 16 to 25 as he once was, the recent Walt Disney animated movies have brought him back to the notice of the age 15 and under population, and the name "Tarzan, Lord Of The Jungle" is one of the most recognizable in the world.

Pop culture nowadays has become so disposable and so fast-moving that I'm not sure anything from this era will still be remembered 100 years from now. Maybe Harry Potter.

Not only is Tarzan NOT an original Disney character, not one single Tarzan movie since the first one in 1913 even portrays the character the way that Burroughs depicted him. I highly recommend the series in general and the e book trilogy that begins the series in particular. Just be aware of the fact that the story is a century old, so the language might sound a little bit stilted by today's standards. And anything in the narrative that may seem to be cliche is exactly the opposite. Everything since then is taken from Burroughs' original work. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, among others, are great Burroughs fans, as is Gregory Whedon, the creator of "Highlander." Burroughs' characters were the inspiration for Luke Skywalker, Indiana Jones, and many others, and Spielberg's Pandora, with its natives living in giant trees was taken almost directly from Burroughs' Venus series.

(Sorry if I ramble, but Burroughs has been one of my all time favorite authors for almost 50 years.)

Thanks for bringing it up. I remembered the movie after logging off. Felt a bit stupid but since I haven't watched the movie maybe I should forgive myself.

That fits in with my thoughts about ho much the younger generation really know him. Only that I forgot about the movie.

Now the question is, how many Disney characters are actually original if we go with the 50 disney classics. Anyone want to take a guess? 😉 Very off topic. One thing can be said though and that's that Disney have helped spread the knowledge of many characters. Often just changed and toned down from the original.

I would be willing to bet that not a single one of the movies listed are about original Disney characters. Disney created Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, and a very few other characters. All of the others were the work of others, either historical characters like Robin Hood and Davy Crockett, or based on the books and stories of others, like Winnie The Poo and Peter Pan. Disney's greatest talent was his imagination and his ability to see beyond the "what IS," to the "what CAN be." "Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs" was the first full length feature animated movie, and everybody thought that Disney was crazy for attempting such a thing. "The Living Desert" was a nothing more than a greatly expanded educational film of the type shown in classrooms all over the world. Another crazy project that made a fortune and won all kind of awards. "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea" was the first time that a movie was filmed, underwater, in the open ocean, rather than through a glass panel looking into a water tank. Time and again, Disney astonished people by doing no more than taking something quite ordinary and presenting it it a totally new and different way.

I doubt Buffy will be widely remembered in 100 years unless they remake it at one point or another. I wouldn't know of Tarzan if not for the cartoon movie when I was a kid. I think it's more likely that popular books from this time will be remembered. (At least more than TV shows) Because a book is a book, you just... you know, read it. But with shows/movies, for example, I know I personally hate watching anything in black and white because I'm used to watching things in color and the shows are filled with jokes I don't enjoy and references that I don't get so the programming never holds my interest. In 100 years, Buffy might be hard to find anywhere, the humor might be obsolete, and it might be considered 'unwatchable quality' by most if technology keeps advancing. I do think that it will live on in one way or another via the internet, but I just don't think it will be very well known. Only time will tell I suppose. 🙂

Maybe Harry Potter?? Anyway...I made my younger sisters watch Buffy and I'll show it to my kids...and if they like it, they'll make their kids watch it and so on. Someone on this planet will be a massive Buffy fan in 100 years. Trust me 😉
