Guilty pleasures

I thought I was the only person I know who watched/remembered Sunset Beach! I used to love that show, it was seriously mental. 😀
It was effin crazy! In the best possible way. I actually rewatched some of it on youtube not too long ago. Still hilarious.

I remember having a bit of a girl crush on Susan Ward, who played Meg. She was so beautiful.

😀

I used to tell my mum she looked like Annie. She hated that. (But she does!).

And oddly Laura Elena Harring started off on it.

Models Ink was quite good trashing fun too.

Models Inc was so bad it was good! 😉 One of my first fanfics was based on Models Inc, about a rival model called Roxanne Smith..... (I still remember the character names I chose, how sad am I?!)🙄

Well would love to see that!😛 I was all over the Spelling output during the 90s. I've been re-watching Central Park West recently. It had Madchen Amick in it, that was enough for me!🙂

I also loved Sunset Beach! I would record the omnibus on Channel 5 on Sunday, then get the VHS set up for 4 hours of nonsense. American soaps are entertainingly surreal.

Lol, true to form. I hated her. Oh, I thought she was so ugly and horrible and wanted her off the show.
We never agreed on anything even before we knew each other, clearly, it was written in the stars 😛

Lol, I hoped evil twin Derek as Ben would off her and save us all!

The Vampire Diaries (I honestly thought the first 3 seasons were good, I mean it's no Buffy, but it was still decent TV, then it just went down the rabbit hole from there but I can't seem to stop myself from watching it)

Pretty Little Liars (only because I know it gets a bad wrap for being a silly teen show, but I can't help it, I love it flaws and a thousand As in all)

Gossip Girl (omg, it is just sooo petty. I knew it was petty when I watched it. It even made me frustrated and irritated with all the scheming and gossiping, but I just had to finish it lol)

The O.C. (Ugh it had sooooo much potential, but it got really bad really quick, but I'll still put it on for a rewatch now and again because come on Adam Brody is so swoon worthy lol)

I was such a fanatic of The OC when it was on.

I admit, I have watched all of these, though not the whole way through.

I do still watch TVD but have fallen behind this season. The soul reason I watch is because my friend does, she went through cancer recently and we've been swooning together, watching when we visit, so I will have to catch up!! Thanks for reminding me, might invite her over for a binge.

The rest I didnt see more than a few episode or an arc. All so very shallow but trying to be deep. At least Bold is upfront about it haha.

I have fallen behind this season with TVD too. It just got very repetitative to the point I'm just so burnt out on it. But, I will definitely finish it.

Ha, good for you for being able to give up a show when you don't like it. It is so hard for me to stop watching a show once I start it, even if I hate it lol. Like, something about it has to extremely turn me off for me to not follow it all the way through.

I actually don't think I have any for TV shows. If I think it's bad I just don't watch it. I suppose I got through the first seasons of Luke Cage and Westworld but it was more of a slog than guilty pleasure. Also my girlfriend got me to watch a lot of One Tree Hill with her. I enjoyed that most of the time even if it was quite silly and the characters would often make me laugh at their stupidity.

Was going to make a thread, but just found this. 🙂 Maybe could expand this to all kinds of guilty pleasures, like movies, music, foods, etc? 😳
As for shows, mine would be The Good Witch. It's on Hallmark, which should tell you all you need to know. 😛 Style wise it kind of reminds me of some old 80s shows I've seen on youtube. So I should totally hate it! LoL 😀 But there's just something sugary charming about it that draws me in. Helps that Sarah Power is in it. ♥

Lexx was/is a guilty pleasure. Probably the freakiest, unnecessarily sexual sci-fi show I've EVER seen. It was so bad, it was hilarious! But I was compelled to watch. God. 😀

I love The L Word. After my first break up I lived with my best friend who is a gay guy. The dude deserves a medal for always putting up with me having The L Word on TV. Got to the point he would walk in the room and knew exactly what season I'm on. Still love it now (Oh why did they not make Lara a regular?)

The show is so bad (seriously, talk about being full of stereotypes, biphobia, transphobia, and it makes lesbians pretty much look serial cheaters lol), but yet the show is so addicting. I recently did a rewatch of season 3, and once you start watching you can't stop, even after they turned Jenny into the worst protagonist in the existence of protagonists, like can you hate the girl any more? I don't think there is any character more collectively hated by an entire fandom. And that's coming from someone who actually liked Jenny until s4 came around.

At least we get Shane, the original lesbian sex symbol, I think nowadays Ruby Rose is probly the equivalent.

As far as biphobia and transphobia goes, keep in mind this was 2004 it was made (with Max being on the scene at around 2007) I recall seeing in a teenage girl's magazine (Dolly magazine for the Aussies) when I was around 12 (so around 2002 era) that one girl had written in saying how confused she was because she liked both genders. The "expert" pretty much said she can like one or the other, not both. Bisexuality wasn't well known back then- I think I made this argument before with Willow being gay and not bi. The world has changed a lot in in 13 years.
Yes, it was very stereotypical lesbian stuff but I think because then all gay girls would at least relate to one of the characters, stereotypes exist for a reason. You still see movies with jocks in high school, nerds, etc because they all exist.

I liked Jenny the first two seasons, then she went down hill...

On an off note, did you see the reunion and how they're talking about doing a reboot? I love what Kate (who plays Shane) said about how the show did a great job of showing how you can pick your own family and the power of friendship. And for that, is a great reason to watch the show even if parts are out dated.

I agree with all of this. I like to shit on the show a lot, but you know what, it's still a pretty groundbreaking show and it has a lot of good stuff going for it. I actually rewatched season 4 today (yes the whole season, don't judge!). And even if the show has its issues, I do think it did very well representing some aspects of the community. The show did have many fleshed out and non stereotypical characters of colour, both black and hispanic, and lesbians with disabilities (and koodos for actually hiring a deaf actress to play a deaf character, it's still one of the only show to have done so). And it's also true that Max was one of (if not the first) trans character on TV, so that's really cool.

And I agree about the sexuality stuff too, things were a lot different back then. At least the show used the word bisexual. So many shows still won't even say that word (looking at you Piper from Orange is the New Black).

I actually really liked Jenny too for the first 2 season, even in season 3.

haha I actually remember watching this show when I was in highschool in my basement with the volume set so low I could barely hear it just so that my family wouldn't overhear. I was very paranoid. I saw the reunion, and it would be really cool if they had a new season! It's very true what they were saying that there hasn't really been anything quite like this show on TV since. And I appreciate the message about the friendship, especially when it comes to the LGBT community, since so many people, especially 15+ years ago, lost their family over being gay, bi or trans.
