Guilty pleasures

First off, watching the whole season 4 in one day is an achievement, hat's off to you! 😛

And yes, it was ground breaking. I also liked Jodi and how they had a deaf actress who played her (so sad that she got caught up in Bette's cheating habits... I liked her)
And even having Phyllis and Tasha showing other hurdles people have to go through, such as coming out later in life and showing what it was like to be on the army as a gay person.

I hate Orange is the New Black and I don't see the hype. I also think Ruby Rose is overrated as a lesbian sex symbol. I didn't see The L Word until I was around 21. My girlfriend suggested we watch it, she had been the same as you Blaze, watching it late at night with the sound turned way down. I was hooked.

I did feel sorry for Alice though. Poor girl just can't keep a girlfriend.

7th Heaven. I regret nothing. Except the latter seasons, which are horrible. After the sex scandal, they don't air it anymore, which is good, because I do not think I could bear to watch it again.

Think Riverdale is turning into a guilty pleasure for me. Though it is quite knowing I think, but yeah am enjoying the retro cheesy style of that show. The original Melrose Place would be one too. Michael and Kimberly were such bad ass heels😛

I'm really into Teen Mom OG right now, mainly because most of them seem to be really nice, down to earth women who just happened to have babies young. I really dislike Farrah Abraham, she's an absolute bitca to her parents and pretty much everyone other than her daughter. She just doesn't seem like a very nice person. Still, she doesn't stop me watching.

I also love Catfish, even though all the episodes are pretty much the same. "He won't video chat because he says his camera is broken" - well, he's probably not who he says he is then! 🙄 But it's always interesting when you get proven wrong (or they turn out to be completely nuts!)

People on the internet - you can never be too sure! 😉

haha that's what happens when you're sick in bed all day, I needed to watch something that didn't require my full attention. Tasha's storyline is still one of my favourite on the show, that was one of the high points of the series for me.

Is Ruby Rose really a lesbian sex symbol? I always got the impression that it was always straight girls swooning over her with the whole "I'd turn gay for Ruby Rose" type thing. I like her tattoos though. No one will ever beat Shane/Kat as the original lesbian sex symbol.

I started re-watching season 2 yesterday after having our discussion here 😛 Good stuff.

In Australia a lot of lesbians go nuts over her, especially after her appearance in OITNB. And then the hype for The Veronica's film clip with her in with Ruby and Lisa (I think it's Lisa) making out for half the video... I agree with you though, no one will ever come close to Shane status for being a lesbian sex symbol.

Blaze
Alex is so much hotter than Ruby Rose's character on OITNB! Dunno why everyone's raving about her.
It's downright disturbing how much I came to hate Jenny by season 6 of TLW...I don't think any character has inspired such hatred for me. I'm both amused and disturbed by my reaction, and hats off to Mia Kirshner for making Jenny so real to me.

I'd think I'd hate other characters more. Bette reminds me of a former girlfriend I had in that she was always going on about the importance of monogamy while also a serial cheater, and she kept coming after me with emotional manipulation and even some attempted intimidation and the like when I finally had enough to leave her (she was also bi-racial and used lots of profanity, but that's about the only other thing they had in common...that, and both were beautiful, though in different ways with a radically different fashion sense for one thing). That girlfriend of mine was the one person I loved and hated with such passion that was a burden (the passions of love combined with hate) to me for years, and yet I find myself strangely sympathetic to (though not excusing of) Bette in spite of this while hating Jenny, and I'm not even sure why.

That aside, I do appreciate how much comfort (if also pain) this show has given people.

And speaking of family (the one born into rather than the one chosen)...I think I may have mentioned a close friend (also an ex of mine) who is an alcohol and gets so depressed that it scares me...she can't go home because she's a lesbian atheist, and her Russian Orthodox family won't condone that lifestyle and beliefs...and yet her room is now used to house guests, including violent, tattooed gangsters (they get preached at to change their ways while there, but at least they're still given shelter and fed) while she has no criminal record and a masters in physics and yet will be turned away at the front door as no kin to them. Damn, that has got to hurt. I even liked her family once upon a time, but I can't forgive them for how they've treated her over something so trivial. I could mention other sexual immorality from a traditional Christian viewpoint that is rampant among them and other members of the Russian Orthodox church they go to as well, but somehow that's not only overlooked, it's even winked at.

My own grandmother is one of the two only relatives I came out to (though many of my kin strongly suspect the truth, but as long as I live over a thousand miles away most of them adopt a "don't ask, don't tell" policy toward me), and though she was accepting, she also talked about how she should've fought harder to gain custody of me as a child and such...that is, she sees my being lesbian as my being damaged from childhood stuff, and was essentially treating it as a disability. That hurt my feelings (which is not easy to do compared to many people), but I didn't say anything...I knew I still had it far much better than many others in my place who can't count on family support at all, and may even be physically attacked (even killed) by their kin over it.

And perhaps that's one thing that was addictive about TLW, as it portrayed a world where we are normal (if in the bad ways as well as the good ways).

I liked Shane, but never really thought she was all that. 😕

I liked Shane as a friend, but I wasn't actually attracted to her. That is I'd love to kick back with her, but I doubt it would get erotic (if it did then I can't imagine I'd attribute anything romantic to it).

I don't know if you saw the "interrogation tapes" that come after season 6 (if you haven't, I strongly recommend skipping them), but it annoyed me that Shane would confess to a serious crime after asking if she couldn't be prosecuted for it. Even if Shane was that ignorant of the law, she'd surely be streetwise enough not to trust a cop interrogating her to be honest or friendly in any sense. But then maybe she was just being self-destructive (fine, but at least show a little more dignity in destroying yourself than pretending to be that stupid). (The crime she confessed to also irked me.)

haha well there's plenty of girls on the show that I thought were hotter (Helena is crazy sexy), but I can't deny that Shane definitely had that...thing to her. All I can say is they really did a good job with the casting on that one, I don't think any other actress could have pulled off that role.

Now that I think about it, the recent equivalent would be Franky on Wentworth. Now that's another "Shane". Okay I need to stop it's getting a little hot in here.

I think Bette is the character I hate most on the show overall. I really couldn't stand her whole holier than thou attitude, while being just as bad if not worst than most of the people on the show. I too went through the whole emotional manipulation relationship thing, and never again! I also didn't really like Tina on the show though, and I think by s6 those two deserved each other, and not in a good way!

There is a lot of comfort in having a show that portrayed being queer as normal, while still not shying away from the fact that the world can be a shit place for gay people. It wasn't the main focus of the show, but they still covered some political issues (like don't ask don't tell, gay parents adopting, homophobic parents). It's nice that they decided to focus on the positive though and talk more about the stories within the community. The world can just be such an ugly place for LGBT folks, especially when it comes to religion. And no matter the severity of things, it's always a shitty thing to hear people that you love be homophobic.

I do understand why someone would view them that way...there were times I did as well. I really hated how Bette burned Jodi.

I had a friend of mine who looked exactly like Shane. Even down to the bird tattoo on the same arm and same place (now that friend has transitioned from male to female, but back when I first knew him, he was looking very Shane 😛 )
Seriously sad that Lara wasn't a regular. I have a real weakness for red heads and found her to be adorable. Although I loved Dana and Alice together.

Did you guys see Lip Service at all? In one of the interviews with the actress who played Frankie there was a comment that "You look very Shane today", made me laugh. (I got to see the actress who played Sam- Heather Peace, at Manchester Pride last year. She's gorgeous!)

I didn't like Bette from the word go. I felt sorry for Tina half the time, but her personality reminded me too much of myself. I do like how the actress who played Tina was on Angel though 😀

There's interrogation tapes?? Where are they?

There's interrogation tapes?? Where are they?

I found them on YouTube...but I warn you, I have never met or even heard of anyone who liked viewing them (I'm sure they exist as one can always find exceptions and anomalies if one looks hard enough, but I have yet to find any). It's been many years since I viewed them, and best I recall it was essentially the various characters rambling about stuff unrelated to the murder of Jenny for a few minutes, presumably recorded by the police as they were being interrogated. I think Tina even talked about some incestuous relationship she had with her sister, which seemed too casual and random to me to bring up in an interrogation about a murder when her sister was in no way involved. And it still didn't reveal who killed Jenny.

(Though IIRC, it was supposed to be Alice, who was going to get her own series of her in prison after...the source was found on the internet and therefore can't vouch for the veracity of it, and I may be remembering it wrong anyway.)

Here, this is much better (didn't say it was good, though I found it cute, just better than the interrogation tapes)...Laurel Holloman doing her Shane impression:

Though fun bit that I don't know if it's coincidental or not...many of the main and even side characters played in scifi to vampire movies. Jennifer Beals (Bette) played a vampire, though I can't recall the name of the movie (hold on, checking...ah, Vampire's Kiss), which made me want to see JB vampire character meet Justine from Angel. 😀

ETA (corrected from an earlier ETA), looks like Jennifer Beals is a big Buffy fan, and even tried to get SMG to guest star on The L Word:

I totally shipped Lara & Dana! ♥

I never seem to recognize this actress. Seriously, I figured out last year that she was on AtS lol. Never once clued in. And now this? I didn't recognize her at all in that movie. Even now, the only way I really knew it was her was because of her voice.

I heard that too, so I think there's some truth to it. Although I don't think it got very far, I think the producer of TLW pitched the idea but the network wasn't interested.

I saw Lip Service when it first came out, so I don't remember it all that much (rewatch maybe?). The show didn't really hook me, I did feel like they were trying too hard to go for the Shane look with Frankie, but it just didn't really work for me. I did really like a lot of the other characters though! I really should rewatch though, I feel like maybe I'd like it more now.

haha and don't worry, you're not the only one with a thing for red heads. I loved Lara, especially in season 1. The L Word had far too many great characters that left too soon.

Was looking at her IMDB page. Says she was also in The Myth of Fingerprints. Didn't recall that either. LoL! 😛

I would say my guilty pleasure shows wild be sitcoms. I like Melissa and Joey, Baby Daddy, Big Bang Theory. I can't help it. Lol. I also loved Grandfathered with John Stamos. Sadly that was canceled after 1 season 🙁. The Crazy One with SMG and Robin Williams is also really funny.

I'm really into Teen Mom OG right now
Please stop. Lol.

I also love Catfish,
Catfish is great! There are some crazy stories. And every now and then it turns out to be real and a happy ending.

Yea, I'd go gay for Alex! I mean🙄 lol. Only with the glasses on! Lol. Ruby Rose is alright, I didn't really like her character on OITNB, though.

I'm GUILTY! lol
Guilty pleasure outside of TV stuff- I love Taylor Swift, Ke$ha, and some Katy Perry stuff. One of my friends found out recently and on our roadtrip we blasted all that music in my car, along with Simple Plan.
No way could I tell any of my band mates that though 😛 Although I have no shame in saying I love Nickelback.

She really wasn't ashamed to say she likes nickleback? o_O
:p
Beverly Hills 90210, it's so bad it's watchable 😛 (I'm only on early season 1)

@GwenRaiden old one, it has a young Jason Priestley (who was also in Tru Calling).

Although I have no shame in saying I love Nickelback.
Good for you, keep being yourself 🙂

Which one though? Old/new? The old show was classic/terrible/amazing.
