If you were the hero, what sidekick would you want? Me, im picking Gunn. Wood is also a great fighter, and Riley would annoy me, and seeing as Gunn could take both of them and i'd probably get on with him more i pick Gunn. Gunn Gunn Gunn.

I voted none....not because i hate them all...more because i wouldn't want to disappoint Spike...i know he'd want that position more than anything else 😀

He so would!
Gunn. He's so handsome and most talented. He knows when to fight, when to run and survive. He's funny. He looks good with every kind of clothes. He.....blah blah blah. Ok, I have a crush on him. 😀

All of them are good fighters, but I picked Gunn just cos he's more fun to have around than the other two. 😀

Well, at one time or another, they have all betrayed the people who trusted them. I think that I would be better off just keeping my back to a wall and fighting alone.

LOL Good point!
Why did you group Gunn, Wood, and Riley together? At first, I thought it was because they were non-demon, non-witchy types, but Xander, Giles, Fred, and Wes all meet that criteria, too. willow, Oz, and Cordy all meet that criteria for at least a little while, and Dawn does after season 5. That doesn't even begin to get into bad guys like Lindsey and Lilah, who might make pretty neat allies. What made you limit your poll to just these three?

Well they 3 are the strongest of the regular humans. There would be times when hand to hand combat would be required and the others wouldn't be as effective. I mean if you went to kill a nest of vamps surely you would rather have Gunn or Wood instead of Fred or Wes?

Woah, I was with you until then. I thought Wes was disqualified because of his Watcher's Training and Magic Proficiency. The Wes of S4+ could go toe-to-toe with Gunn (which he actually did) and in an armed fight would take down Woods or Riley, imo.

If you go by the good guys, I agree with most of his selections.

Xander - he's not a warrior.

Dawn - come on, one punch from those three and she'd be out cold.

Oz - werewolf

Fred - though I'd rank her above average, again she'd be out cold from a single punch from one of those guys.

Cordy - her fighting proficiency came after she was made part demon.

Now if being magically proficient Watchers doesn't disqualify Giles & Wes, I'd rank them amongst those three. We've seen that Wes is roughly on par with Gunn, and Giles is less flashy than Robin, but I'd say he's nearly as effective.

I suppose Wes could handle himself but i just couldn't see him being able to take any of those 3 in a one on one fight. They're all heavyweights, Wes is a middleweight.

Wes is way more formidable than Riley or Robin. Neither could go toe-to-toe with Spike or Angel, they both tried and failed horribly. Wes KO'd Angel 3x, once with Cordy's help, once with a few Watchers, and once with Faith.

Remember when a full squad of Marines + Riley went up against Angel? Angel didn't even break a sweat, and those guys were using weapons against an unarmed Angel.

When Robin went up against Spike, once the hypnotism broke, Spike tossed him around like he was a small child.

I know Wes' victories involved strategy more than brawn, but in a fist fight against Gunn he held his own.

However, late/dark Wesley (and I guess that's whom we're talking about - Buffy's S3 Wesley certainly can't hold a candle even to Dawn or pre-S8 Xander!) had those nifty gadgets like his arm-springblade... not to mention guns (which might not kill most demons, but slow almost anything down for a precious number of seconds). I definitely rate him as competition.

Yep. You know, Joss said that Alexis asked him to keep Wes as a punk in Buffy S3. Joss offered to make him a tough guy for the Graduation Day battle...
I am torn... All three of these guys were pretty awesome. But I'd have to pick Riley 'cause Gunn got on my nerves a little... And I love Riley. 🙂 But if Wes would have been in there I'd have picked him, hands down!

I knew Wes would probably win if i included him. But way i see it, anyone can run around with guns and gadgets. Theres no way in hell Wes would win in unarmed combat. Mind you, i still like wes, he's a great character. I liked that he didn't have the size and strength but relied on his brain more.

Wes has skill which gives him an edge over Gunn, Riley or Wood. A human being could never hope to defeat a vampire of Angel's level mono-e-mono because Angel and Spike and those level vamps have strength,s peed and toughness beyond human limitations.

Hence why Wood got his face punched in. He tried to brawl with a brawler who had more strength and toughness.

Riley to his credit seemed to try to find a weaon when he battled Angel. I think he broke a bottle and had some other stuff. He still got his ass kicked becuase at the end of the day he can't match up with Angel's level of physical ability.

Neither could Wesley or Holtz of course. Hence why they honed their technique in battle. Their skill compensated for their physical limits.
Giles was probably more skilled than Wes but his age handicapped him.

So at the end of the day out of the three, I'd take Riley. For one, I like him more. For two, he is pretty tough especially when on the drugs. I remember Buffy kicking him clear across a room when they were sparring or whatever and didn't he get up? I mean he was hurt but it was mostly his pride. Anyone who can take hits like that and keep going is tough in my book.
Can't recall if he was on the drugs then.

But yeah, Wesley is tougher than all of them due to his skill and overall insanity as the series goes on.

^If you're counting Riley on the drugs, he's clearly the top guy. At that point his physical strength was supernatural. That said, he was the weakest supernatural warrior on the show since I'm sure even Groo would pound Drugged-Up Riley into the ground.

Groo would pound most people in the verse to the ground.
BillyIdolWannaB agrees: Groo would pound most people in the verse to the ground.

^True, but he's still one of the weakest Super-being Champions. Imagine Groo vs. Faith, he'd be demolished.
