I can understand the restoring of Angelus'/Angel's soul, therefore a sense of guilt for the lives he had taken and the torture he had inflicted. The part I just don't understand is the "one moment of perfect pleasure" stipulation. It just sounds like an escape clause, albeit an unknown one, allowing Angelus to return. If they had really wanted to curse Angel, wouldn't it have made more sense to make it impossible for him to be truly happy under any circumstance? Granted, Jenny Calendar was supposed to see that his one moment never happened, but I never saw her do anything but flirt with Giles.
 
Good point, i see that the curse was fallable hense the reason they tried to keep him "unhappy". Any spell can be broken in my view there is no such thing as a spell that can't. The writers probably wanted a character that was
a split personality so D.B could play different characters?

The whole "perfect happiness" thing never made sense to me either!
 
i think it had more to do with the fact of making him suffer. i always thought that it would have made more sense to tell him that one moment of perfect happiness would cause Angelus to return, thus making him spend his days living in torment 'cause he knew that Angelus would return. i suppose thi did happen after he got his soul back, but to me, it would have made more sense to tell him at them time of his original cursing. it would have served as a better revenge for the Kalderash if they had done it this way.
 
As stated above, I guess that no spell is completely unbreakable, and theres always something, some catch maybe for it.

I guess the gypsy dudes thought that with a soul, Angel would just be all miserable and keeping to himself, and brooding, they thought the one thing he'd never find while in this state, was true happiness. I can't really think, off the top if my head, what other thing they could have put instead of the 'true happiness' thing, to break the curse.
 
It does make sense to think along such lines, to assume that there's always going to be some way of breaking any spell. And the kind of pure happiness that's required to break the spell certainly seems to be a very elusive thing in this world. This is true for anyone, and it's especially true for Angel.

And of course, the Gypsies didn't leave it to chance. They spied on Angel to make sure he didn't achieve true happiness. I also wonder why we haven't heard from the Gypsies since then. Obviously they have reason to be more cautious and secretive after what happened to Jenny and Uncle Enyos, but it seems that if they kept up their work spying on Angel for a hundred years, they probably think of Jenny and Enyos as just two more deaths that Angel needs to be punished for. They appear in some non-canon Angel comics, and I wouldn't be surprised if they showed up in the canonical Season Six comics as well...
 
Thats a good point actually,they did seem to just fade away, maybe they never heard he was back,once they found out he was dead then they moved on. Although angel did cause a stir in the supernatural world which means its unlikely the gypsies didnt hear about him once he returned

Possibly they were the last of their clan, or at least the last of the ones charged with keeping track of Angel.
 
Doesn't Enyos say that one of the elders felt as though Angel's unhappiness is waning? Or something to that effect? I doubt they were the last 2 of their clan but with everything that went on in Angel (being in love with Cordy, birth of Connor, etc) I would say they probably no longer had the manpower for Angel watch, or perhaps they lost their lust for revenge after seeing the good he eventually did in LA.

Just a theory.
 
Then again a lot of bad struff happened to angel in angel and the gypsies were quite covert so who kows if they played a part in it. Also we had wolfram and hart and jasmine highly involved with angel. they may have thwarted the gypsys or blocked, who knows, again just another plausible theory
