Out of the main characters in the Buffyverse, which do you think has had it the worst?

This thread is intended to showcase your views on which character has been through the most upsetting times.

(I will post mine after a few have, so as to not seem biased in the first post, because I hate that!)

I'm going with Buffy as she had to experience the loss of her childhood and up until the last episode she had no hope for a future. She lost her mother at a young age and sacrificed her life for her sister...which led to her time in heaven before she was ripped out.

And don't even get me started on her relationships with "men"...

totally agree with what you said Cordelia.. Buff defiently had it the worst.. i think the whole getting ripped out of heaven.. was the climax for her.

I totally agree with Cordelia!!!.........Buffy had a lot of problems during the seven seasons.

I voted Faith though this wasn't an easy descision.. Buffy's had some really hard times, but I guessed a lot of peope were going to vote for her anyway so.. And everyone has been going through a lot I guess.. Faith's just the one I feel for right now, I feel sorry for her and understands how hard everything muct've been for her.

T'wasn't an easy decision what with so many of the characters having been put through so much. I went with Wes because he seemed to have the least amount of joy in his life. A harsh taskmaster of a father whom he obviously could never please. A cold welcome when he first arrived in Sunnydale. An unsuccesful shot at being Faith's watcher. An unsuccessful attempt at hooking up with Cordelia.
Once he got to LA things weren't much better. He lost in the bid for Fred's love. He had every friend turn against him when he "rescued" Connor. Found out he was duped, no one could have been harder on him then he was himself. Then the destructive relationship with Lilah. Then the crowning touch. Losing Fred once again, to Ilyria who took over her body leaving nothing but ashes for him. The saddness of his passing was bearable for me only because he could never have been reunited with Fred had he lived.

It was a tough choice. Buffy had it pretty hard through the 7 years. But then she always had a support group. People who loved her and would do anything for her. I chose Faith because she really never had that. She made some bad choices, but lived a hard life.

I think Faith since she really had no one to support her. She made all those bad choices and she had to step up and take responsibility for them. Faith has always flirted and pushed lines, but when she went too far no one really jumped to help her and pull her out off deep water. Angel was the only one who really saw that Faith could be a good person. Buffy set out to destroy her and didn't really give her a chance at redemtion.

Honestly I don't see how having a bad childhood and no friends can compare to being ripped out of heaven.

Faith never had to worry about her family and friends. Buffy's friends and family were constantly in danger and that put so much pressure on her. And when she wanted to do things by herself, to keep them safe, they flipped out on her.

Plus Faith dropped out of school, just like she solves all her problems, by running away. Buffy went through all 4 years of high school plus a year and half of college. Faith had time to sleep during the day, but Buffy didn't. She had to mix school, homework, family time and slayage into 24 hours. I really don't know how she did it or get more than 4 hours of sleep a night.

And Faith didn't have to go through the pain, agony and despair of dying, three times! After Prophecy Girl, Buffy was completely cut off from the world for 3 months. And after the Gift, she spent time in heaven, finally at peace, then to be ripped out and had to dig out of her own grave. Then in Villians, shes shot and immediately after has to face off with her friend.

Not to mention that Buffy, with the exception of the event in Becoming and Anne, stayed in Sunnydale to face her problems. As I've said before, Faith justs runs away from her issues.

Then you've got the facts about slaying. Faith never went up against as much as Buffy did. Nor did she have to deal with the burden of being a Slayer as long. Buffy had to face off with a god, the most powerful witch ever and countless other Apocalypses, but yet she prevailed.

Just because you had a bad childhood, doesn't mean you should automatically have to have a bad time as a teenager or adult. You can overcome your crap and be a good person. But Faith didn't realize this until S7. Before that she was a self-centered superpowered psycho.

And if you were Buffy in S3, and Faith tried to steal everything you had (family, friends, watcher, ANGEL), then you might also be highly pissed off. And after all Buffy went through, she never strayed to the darkside.

Thats what I call a true hero, who went through more than anyone on that list.

I'm going to have to disagree with everyone here and go with a new character who had it the worst, Angel.

It goes without saying that Angel probably caused the most death and destruction of anyone on the show, then he had to continue living with all the terrible things he had done constantly on his mind - trying for redemption, which was taking him quite awhile.

This was all before the show even picked up! He finally found the love of his life, but had to make the decision that they couldn't be together. Again he had to deny himself happiness/Buffy in I Will Remember You because of his redemption cause.

He's lost his friends because of himself, missed his sons childhood and denied himself happiness over and over.
Seems a pretty rough life to me.

I agree!!!! Angel has had it hard. He had to deal with the unbearable pain of guilt!!! And he has to feel that pain as long as he lives. Unlives.

I was going with Faith until Slayer,The convinced me that Buffy really has had it the worst. I mean, on the surface it looks like she's had a good life compared to Faith's, but she's gone through way to much for it to be considered 'good'. I know if I were ripped out of complete and total happiness to be put back here, I'd be feeling pretty pissed as well.

But then again, maybe that's just the life of a slayer. Maybe every slayer has had to go through things like that. Maybe it comes with the territory.

I'd say it's pretty much impossible to decide...Every one of them has had a bad life, it's impossible to say who's had the worst. Although Buffy does seem the most obvious choice.

I think Dawn is very close though...Think about it, finding out that your not real! You're not what you thought you were, and most of your memories are fake! Then her mother dying, her sister dying to save her...Her sister coming back, but different. Giles leaving. Everyone around her falling apart. Then things seemed to be going ok, Tara and Willow were back together, but then Tara is shot, and Willow goes evil. And then there's the whole of s7...getting to know alot of new people who you know could all die any day.

I get what you're saying but I don't agree with everything. First of all, I don't think you can compare things that've happened in people's lives to see who's had it the worst, I think you've just got to look at how they felt.

I do agree that Buffy has been through a lot, of course she has, and I do feel sorry for her. But you can't compare how Buffy lived and how Faith lived, how they reacted to different things and all that.. cause they're very different people in that way, how they react and how much they show..
And all the things you mention about Faith running away and not dealing with childhood, past, relationships and so on.. Sure, that is a problem she has, I'm not saying it's good that she does that, but it doesn't make her feel good, it's not a reason not to feel sorry for her, it's not an argument against her going through the hardest times.

I agree Buffy is the true hero, but that's not what this is about.. It is about who's had it the worst.. And although Buffy has had some really bad times, she has always had friends, even if she sometimes didn't get along with them.. She has always had people who care a lot about her, who would do anything for her. And from time to time Buffy has been great, had a life and all that. Faith has never really had anyone or anything. She has always been rejected and pushed away, and of course she felt really bad cause of that.. This doesn't really have to do with who faced more evils or died more times.. I just feel that Faith has had to go through the worst..

Though I was really tempted to say Faith, and maybe even Dawn, I had to go with Connor. Even though he's doing pretty well now, the question was "who had it the worst", and I think being used as a complete pawn, first by Holz, then by Angel/W&H, then by Jasmine, and finally caught in the struggle between Angal and W&H again.

CONNOR: I want to stop. Stop fighting. I just want to rest. God, I want to rest. But I can't. It's not working, Cordy. I tried. I tried to believe. I wanted it. Went along with the... the flow. Jasmine, she's...she's bringing peace to everyone, purging all of their hate and anger. But not me. Not me! I know she's a lie. Jasmine. My whole life's been built on them. I just... I guess I thought this one was better than the others.
