Hair Dying Question

I had my hair dyed from its natural light brown to blonde highlights three weeks ago and im already sick of it. Was wondering what would be the best option;

Get the colour stripped or
Dye over it?

My only concern with dying over it is when the previous colour and new colour starts to fade it may go all weird and gingerish (not that theres anything wrong with that, it'd just look like a weird mix of colours).

If i were to get it stripped how much roughly would it cost (considering im in Britian)? Thanks.
 
Tricky.. I don't know much about this.. And I have henna in my hair, which means I'll have to dye it red forever (or until I cut it, which I'm thinking about doing), 'cause it'll never disappear and you can't dye it over...

Ok all I'm saying is make sure you know what you're doing (or have a lot of money to buy different hair stuff so you can dye it lots of times, heh), 'cause it could always end up green or something equaliy scary.. (Unless that's what you want that is 😀 )
 
When I had blonde highlights in my hair I thought it would be a good idea to dye over the top of it, and go red. Well my highlights turned pink. I had to go to the hair dressers to get the colour stripped then dyed again.

I would recommend going to a very good hairdresser. I recently went brunette again after been blonde for a while, and I had my colour stripped then re-dyed. It cost me £60I think but it was worth it and it looks sooo much better now.
 
It depends what kind of dye you use and what color you want. I don't like the color stripping, 'cause it takes a lot of oils out of your hair and it will be so dry. But dying over highlights is slightly tricky. What color were you looking to go?
 
If there is a local beauty supply shop around, go there and ask for a filler (its used on hair when you want to go from light color process to a darker color). Follow the directions on the bottle, you cant lose with it. I lighten my hair in the summer and then go darker for the winter. Each time I go from light to dark I use the filler (following directions) and then use the hair dye. A stylist friend of mine told me what to do, this way you dont have to worry about the hair color grabbing the highlights and it makes the color even. Believe me my hair has been changed so many times, I dont even remember my "real" color. Hope that helps you.
 
striping won't work, most blonde dyes have a bleaching agent in them.

When I had my blonde highlights I dyed my hair a dark brown that didn’t match my natural hair color but it grew in un-noticeable.
 
If it were me, I would seriously get professional opinions. I would not do this on your own.

Stripping can seriously damage your hair. And covering it up with a dark color might affect the highlights, wash/fade funny or be completely fine. It all depends on the product that was used before to make your highlights, and the products used after, as well the structure of your hair!

Definitely go with the professional...i tryed dying over highlights once...bad idea...it came out a weird color i did not like and then it took forever to get back to my natural color and i dyed to so many times to fix it and my hair got soooo damaged...
 
Yes...coming from experience (haha)...I'd go with some professionals.
I've been highlighting my hair for a good 4 years now, and not just a few highlights here and there. A LOT of them. But now that I want to get back to my natural color, which is dark brown, I've been going through some kind of epic battle with my hair color for the past year or so...
And all I ended up with is a mixture of dark brown, blonde, and red hair...but if I would've let the pros deal with it, I probably wouldn't be in this little predicament.

So moral of the story: pros are the way to go I think...
 
And if you're worried about the cost, try to find a good beauty school student who'll do it for free. That's what I do. Or I would do it if I didn't do it myself. 😀

Well I had henna in my hair too, well I still have I guess, but I dyed over it, with a darker color.
 
I think I will go talk to ther person who did it, see what he said. But you know, its easier to come on BB then head into town cause im lazy.

Yeah ok, cool. I might have to try.. My problem is that I want my natural hair colour (blonde), and that's like.. not possible.. so yeah, my just keep it red.
(Thinking about dying it red again, cut it, and always straighten it of course.. Going for Willow's look in early season 7 🙂)

Mhm, that's what I want to, so I thought that I would dye it with this other color for a few years or so until the henna is totally gone.

Darn right cause we know everything about everything dontcha know! 😀 😀

seriously though I've died over blonde highlights and it's gone pink. And I've also had my hair stripped with a modulate, honestly it wasn't that bad on the hair. If you just dye over, the blonde will definitely come through again and you may also even still see the highlights right after the dye job because the blonde hair will hold colour differently (highlights change the texture of your hair too, it can become more coarse and will absorb more colour sometimes).

Hmm I've died my hair ALOT but would still def recommend a good salon!

Jen - it's "dyed", unless you killed your hair a lot :)
I'd go to hairdresser and get some expert advice ,i have tried to dye my hair mahogany but because it is natrually reddishbrown any way it didn't make any difference all i wanted was to make it more redfder and it sort of didn't work!
