All characters within are property of Joss Whedon, and Mutant Enemy. I own nothing (sadly). A three-shot dedicated to those of you who, like me, what the heck happened when Buffy and Angel first saw each other after she was resurrected. Believe me when I say that I tried my hardest to keep the spirit of Joss' characters alive as they are the source of the show we love so much. Enjoy.

Also, feedback/constructive crticism/hatred is like crack. More the first two than the last one but I'll take what I can get. Supply accordingly.

I've seen your flag on the marble arch,

But love is not a victory march,

It's a cold and it's a broken "Hallelujah".

"Are you sure you're ready for this? Maybe give it a few weeks. I called him so he isn't totally in the dark. I mean, you've only really been alive for a week now, Buffy. Take it slow."

Willow sat on the edge of Buffy's bed, her legs criss-crossed. Buffy, head fully in the closet looking hopelessly at her clothing choices - or a lack there of - pretended not to hear her. She wasn't going to be talked out of this. Even though it wouldn't take much to do so. The prospect of seeing Angel again was quickening her heart rate as it was.

"What do you wear when going to see your ex-boyfriend that says 'I was recently resurrected' and 'I've moved on from your brooding and well-dressed vampire ways' at the same time?" Buffy pouted, facing Willow again. "Cream colored blouse with slight cleavage, or black dress shirt?" She held the two options in front of her, now thinking that neither would work. Willow wasn't good at being distracted, so she in turn ignored her.

"I'm all for the "Buffy and Angel doing talking" thing. I'm the conductor of the Buffy and Angel chit chat express. But whenever see him you're- you're confident Buffy who's totally over Angel... and you come back as, well," Willow motioned with her hands searching for the words. "Buffy who's missing a few parts. Parts Angel took with him to L.A., parts you never really got back." She finished, looking meaningfully at her.

Buffy sighed... She was right. The sting she had always felt whenever she thought about Angel hadn't lessened. Had she really expected it to? Their love had defied all odds in both life and death. She was foolish to think it could be different now.

She folded her arms across her chest, feeling them rise and fall with the motion of her breathing. She felt her heartbeat pushing the blood through her body, heard the sound of the trees moving outside. To hear, to smell. To feel. At least to feel inside of flesh and blood was still new. She shook out of her quick reverie, the longing to go back to her heaven tugging like a hand pulling from behind. She was here now, and it wasn't the time to be wishing for the impossible.

"Will, I have to do this. And there isn't really a greeting card that says 'Hey, I'm back from the dead. FYI.'" Buffy said.

She paused to imagine NOT telling Angel that she was alive. From what Willow had told her about his reaction when she went to L.A. the day after her death... this wasn't an option. Willow wasn't convinced, looking at her with worry.

"I'm just saying, you have time. Angel isn't going anywhere."

"I used to think the same thing about me, Will. That someday I would have this "Slayer" thing all figured out, and maybe even some semblance of a normal life. Then came Glory, and me jumping off that railing, and then you pulling out of-" Buffy wavered as Willow's face immediately sank as she looked away. She internally kicked herself.

"I- I know that it doesn't seem like it, but I have to do this. If he had died, if something like this had happened to him, I would want to know. Not over the phone, or any other way besides face to face." Buffy said, looking at her hands and finally up at Willow again. "If Oz had died and come back, you would want to know." Willow met her gaze again and nodded slightly.

"You're right, I would. I just... wish there was an easier way. For you."

Buffy put on the hard mask that had become the norm for her since she had returned. It didn't feel like her face could do anything else anymore. "There's no easy, Will. Not for me and Angel. There's just... This."

"But... phones nowadays, they're pretty great! They convey all of this emotion... kind of... stuff," Willow's face turned down, and she knew that the conversation was over. She came and sat down next to her friend. They sat in silence for a few moments.

"Cream." Willow said finally. Buffy nodded once, tossing the black shirt with a little too much enthusiasm back into the closet. Changing out of her patrolling outfit of jeans and a shirt she threw on her choice of outfit and looked in the full length mirror, her head cocked to one side.

"I look okay, right?" Buffy asked her, turning to face her.

"Best looking recently resurrected slayer I've ever seen."
