Halloween is coming....

Since Halloween's on a Saturday nite, and I'll definitely be off work, I'm hoping to find a party to attend.
@Athene I will definitely be nabbing some post holiday discounted candy. 😀

I'm hoping to catch Nightmare Before Christmas at a local cinema that just opened back up (at a 100% markup on prices).

I so miss entertaining at children birthday parties that I'm gonna see if there's a local Halloween party held for children that I can volunteer at.

Other than that it's just the usual decorations, which tend to be on the cute rather than scary side (which surprises some given how dark my humor is, something I've shared very little of here, but I will say I've had to resolve NOT to hand out hand sanitizer instead of candy to any who come to the door this Halloween as my laughs aren't worth children's tears, or worse, the tricks I might get in response).

Halloween may be cancelled this year in Ottawa, Toronto and Peel county by government edict. The decision will be made this coming week. I am in Peel county and we are back in Stage 3 after our recent bit of Stage 2 freedom because we are getting high numbers of new cases.

Same here. As much as I'd like to see the 60th anniversary of Psycho in the theater, ain't no way I'm paying $17.50 to do so. They crazy. And they are only seating 12 people. Only 12 in a venue that seats 80. So yeah, that's why they are charging twice as much.

There's more seating allowed here, but I just discovered NO RESTROOMS! The walk back is going to feel a lot longer than it has to...I certainly won't be buying anything to drink there.

Are the drink and popcorn prices doubled as well?
 
Not really doing much unfortunately. Halloween wasn't a traditionally celebrated holiday in Singapore until recently, and even then we don't really have "trick-or-treat" around here with kids randomly knocking on strangers' doors. lol Kinda hard to do that when everyone's living in apartment blocks anyway.

I don't know. I guess I'll pop in some horror movie. I think I might watch Trick 'r Treat. Will have to see my schedule.
 
I loved the Halloween thing growing up in England, then I learnt of the influx of Samhain to brighten the nights for the following 3 months. Then I heard of the trick or treat thing and laughed.
The comparison is similar to Black Thorn to Sineya. Makes me glad to be in the Circle of the House of the Black Thorn.
 
I'm working, so I might dress up. Depends on the weather and what I can find to wear.

Appropriately enough, I got to watch the Treehouse of Horror V in Simpsons season 6, a Halloween tradition in the series I wouldn't have been able to watch if I'm stuck watching the sixth season of The X-Files or Buffy right now in my rotation. 😁

And boy, this is definitely the best Treehouse of Horror I've seen so far. It has a fun Shining parody where Homer goes crazy from a lack of beer and TV, but my favorite segment is easily Nightmare Cafeteria where the school staff starts cannibalizing on delinquent students, then just any student in particular. It was easily the darkest segment of any Simpsons episode so far in 1994, not to mention the incredibly disturbing ending where Bart and Lisa are implied to have fallen into a food blender... the fact that their bloody demise was left to the audience's imagination probably made it worse.

It also has this equally upsetting end credits sequence that probably haunted a lots of kids' nightmares:

Apparently, this episode's dark nature (or at least darker nature) came about because of Fox trying to meddle with The Simpsons' level of violence what with all the conflict with the FCC. Fox tried to ask The Simpsons to tone down the violence, and ever since season 6, episode 4, Itchy and Scratchy Land, David Mirkin has been rebelling against such executive meddling by doing the exact opposite: amping up the graphic level and gore. lol Lesson learned: never try to censor The Simpsons, folks.

Oh Halloween that wonderful time of year, this year is just right as Halloween celebrates death. Which country is its best supporter?
That American notion of Trick or Treat is a bit iffy not to mention off, telling kids not to talk or accept candy from strangers then at trick or treat time have them go to peoples houses and ask for candy, is a double standard at work here?
 
Halloween is not being cancelled this year, even in the outbreak areas, so we have that to look forward to.
 
Trick n' Treating is from an old Irish/Scottish custom called "Souling," where local urchins would beg for a few coins or some sweets, in exchange for promising to say prayers for your ancestors on Hallowmas, the Feasts of All Saints and All Souls. As for how, well, you have to remember, Stranger Danger was not an concern of parents until the 1970s. Find Boomers who weren't raised in suburbia or older, and boy, will they have fun stories to tell you about their childhood.

I have never heard of 'Souling' when was that begun?
Covid-sensitive costume party at a local goth club. No haunted houses this year though, unfortunately. Already carved pumpkins this year. Decorated the porch too. Re-reading Frankenstein and Thomas Ligotti. Watching a variety of halloween movies.
 
The prospect of no haunted houses to be visited this year.
Laugh I almost cried. WHY?
Human's don't want to risk spreading the covid-19 virus to any ghosts.
