Halloween Vamp

So there's a vamp in Buffy's house in Halloween when she's all not who she usually is (Angel's calling out for a stake, geting all bumpy and making her all scared)....anyhow....no invite, so how the heck did that happen?

Maybe it was a kid-turned-vamp so the rules didn't apply? Or just an error.

Thoughts anyone?

Yes. Notice he's even dressed in what looks like a "Dracula" costume.

yeah i would assume because the changes were temporary and not actually real (as in, the kid still had his soul but the costume made him change, not being bit by an actual vampire) that he could come in because deep down, he's still just a kid, not a demon.

That was something that puzzled me the second time I watched this episode (Because the first time round I was too busy just enjoying it, hehe) but yes, he's the same teen that we see earlier on in the episode dressed in a really tacky Dracula costume.

The only reasoning I could think of was what you guys have already said. Yes, for then he was a vampire but he wasn't a vampire, vampire as in he had been reborn as the undead. He was just 'playing one on TV' haha so I don't believe the same rules apply.

I agree with the kid thing.
Other than that, maybe the rules were all a bit changed because of Halloween. There was a Buffy book about this, well, Samahain (or however it was spelled), with this really powerful deamon coming to live that night, so if this happens, a lot of other funky stuff could have been going on as well.
Lame explanation? I agree, let's stick wih the kid-turned-vamp-for-one-night one!

Well, if it was really a human, why would Angel want to stake it? Especially if he was told what was going on. I think it has something to do with Ethan's spell.

But Angel didn't know it wasn't a real vampire. Heck, he was still a little confused as to why Xander was a solider and why Buffy didn't know who she or anyone was.
All he knew was there was a vamp in the kitchen and it was endangering Buffy.

That kinda creates another question for me. If Angel had managed to stake the vamp, would he have been dusted or would there been some kid with a sucking chest wound moment?

I know, I have too many questions. lol.

They're good questions, though, DOI. I would say that it depends on how "nature" is categorizing the kid. If he's being categorized as a kid in a vampire costume (which would explain his ability to enter uninvited), it's likely that he would end up with a sucking chest wound--though it might not suck or bleed until the spell was broken. If he's being categorized as a vampire, he'd dust. If "nature" isn't quite sure WHAT he is by that point, it's anyone's guess.

It might even depend on which version of a movie vampire his costume was based on - some age rapidly and turn to dust, some leave a skeleton, some basically just die and leave a body (generally one that appears to have been dead for however long it's been since the person was turned.) Lots of modern films (notably those who spend all their money on special effects instead of scripts...) go to ridiculous lengths in having the vampires burst into flame, explode like fireworks, etc, etc.

I think, in my imaginings anyway, that it would have been a kinda Dead Werewolf moment. In all the Werewolf movies, when the wolf is shot (By a silver bullet natch), once it dies it morphs back into the human form leaving behind a human body and not a wolf. So I think the same would have happened here if Angel had staked the vampire.
Dead would have rendered the spell inactive, thus ending it and revealing one very dead kid. And a big guilt trip for Angel. Thank God, Buffy the Scream Queen stopped him with her hysterics huh?

wow, I've never even thought about that, there are other things in the ep, but never that, I feel stupid now.
But back on point, I agree with the concept that he wasn't a 'real' vamp and so the rules didn't apply, or maybe the writers just had too much Halloween candy and forgot the rules in the sugar rush?
