Halloween - Vampire in Buffy's house?

When Buffy and Angel are in her house, Angel notices the door is open, and a vampire pops up in a closet.

Now, I assume it was someone dressed in a vampire costume and got turned into one, but wouldn't he still need an invitation to get in? Or does it not matter since he wasn't naturally a vampire?
 
My guess is like yours. That it was costume, so no real vampire. Although the others who turned into their costumes were actually their costumes. So...
 
I watched this yesterday and was wondering the same thing...I just made the same guess.
The same thing kind of happened in Reptile Boy, the guy told Xander to come into the frat house, not Angel....yet Angel still got in..
 
It was my understanding that a vampire cannot enter your home unless invited. Other places, like The Bronze for instance, isn't anyone's home. And Angelus said in Passion when Jenny asked him how he was able to come in that the school motto "Enter all ye who seek knowledge" was enough. My guess is like yours, not real vampires equals invitation null and void. I've always wondered that too. And if the fake vampires were to make a vampire under the chaos spell. I would imagine not but its still interesting to speculate.
 
Very interesting. I've seen the Halloween episode many times yet I never paid too much attention to that part. The faux vampire theory certainly makes the most sense, but isn't there also some theory that vampires are allowed to enter a domicile if its abandoned? IIRC wasn't Spike able to enter abandoned homes in season 7 whenever most people had fled Sunnydale? Could it be that since Buffy has transformed into another person and Joyce was out of town that the house was considered abandoned on a technicality? I know its pretty thin, but just a thought.
 
Just like in the Episode "Angel" when the Three are attacking her and one of the vampires manages to get his arm passed the door and Buffy and Angel have to push the door closed to get him out. How did his arm pass through the barrier? My notion is that in the earlier season the idea of a vampire not being able to enter the house was a premature one that Joss hadnt venture into too much until they had to do the spell to keep Angelus out of Buffy's domain.

Well, my guess is that the writers didn't think about it, because they concentrated on the main story, and it's actually a plot hole.
But it also could be the thing with the costume. That the vampire didn't need an invite because he wasn't sired, but instead turned into a vampire by that spell.

Yeah, even if it's a plot hole, I like to think that's the reason why they didn't need an invitation. I don't like to think that the writers made a plot hole in Buffy. 😛

Yeah, of course. I also don't like the idea of plot holes in Buffy 😀
And I'm not saying that it is a plot hole. To me it's just the simplest explanation. It's the thing that would have happened to me if I was a writer 😱

I think that was probably just a mistake, even if it was a costume, the person still became a real vampire, therefore would not have been able to enter the house uninvited. But as Buffy also changed, maybe the house stopped belonging to her, not sure, as JOyce owns the house to.
 
I agree probably it was just a mistake from a writter. Of course everyone can create his own version like that's just the fault of the spell and that the guy wasn't a real Vampire. The only way to find out is to ask Joss Whedon or the Writter!
 
I watched Halloween several times, and it never registered with me until I read this thread. I agree it probably is a mistake of the writers, on the other hand, it would be a rather big one. Everyone turned into the monster/person they were dressed up as, with the characteristics to go with it -- even Willow could walk though walls-- and they would have missed the vampire invite?

Still, like I said, I never really realized it either until it was pointed out here 😀
 
Ya know, I never really paid much attention to this either actually. It's pretty interesting though.

I'd say pretty much what everyone else says, it was probably a mixture of him not being a real vampire and also because Joss hadn't really delved too much into it yet.
 
I never really thought about that. I think it's because he wasn't really a vampire...it was technically just a costume. Or a mistake on the writer's part 😉
