Halloween

With Halloween around the corner I was wondering how old were you when you went out for candy for the last time?

I was 14. But now that I hand out the candy I get the leftovers so technically...and the cool part is I only buy candy that I like to hand out. But the downside to that is if it's a warm night I get about 200 kids so no leftovers, boo hoo. But a cold night means ol' Teentitan gets a good haul.
Like I tell Mrs. Teentitan I am in shape...round is a shape, lol.

Hallowe'en trick or treating didn't really start here in the UK until relatively recently, so I've never gone out but I do quite enjoy it...especially when it comes to the leftovers. I'm like you TT - no point in buying sweets you don't like 'cos if it's a slack night for the kids, you've got the onerous task of tackling them yourself 😉

I love seeing the little kids who have (or rather their parents have) really made an effort with their costumes...but I get a little irked by the older kids (usually 14-15 year-old lads) who seem to think a costume consists of pulling up the hood of their sweatshirt...ever the coward though, they still get something (albeit grudgingly)...I've no desire to have to clean egg off my car first thing in the morning before I go to work 🙂

Can't remember ever going out on Halloween as a child, like Mr P said, here in the UK, it's only really just starting to become popular. Likewise, I get annoyed with older kids, that call with no effort on the costume part, and expect to get something from you! I make sure I have plenty of candy for the younger kids that are dressed up though! 😉

Last year we started having a huge Halloween costume party, and we are doing the same again next year! We really go to town, and decorate the whole lower half of the house, we probably have more halloween decs now than Christmas ones 'lol'. As we have the 5 kids and they don't have birthday parties, we figure it made sense to have one BIG party on Halloween, and they all get to invite some of their friends - last year we had around 40 kids I think, it was bedlum! 😀

It also means of course, that word gets round and we got alot more trick or treaters than ever last year, so I'm expecting the same this year!

I adore Halloween, though, so I'm all for it! 🙂

Thik I was about 13 last time I went out. Now I still dress up but go to a club and get drunk instead 😀 Much better than swwets 😛

Hm I don't think Halloween really existed in Sweden until a few years ago, so I never did that whole dress-up-get-candy thing.

We did something similar though.. in Sweden, around Easter, you dress up as a witch (though not a scary one, just in colourful clothes etc.) and you go around wishing people happy Easter and they give you candy.. That I did until I was like 11 perhaps..

I was... 10, maybe? I would've done it longer but I just got tired of my parents coming with me... but I'm going to go trick or treating this year for fun... I miss eating all that chocolate...

we never get candy or sweets over here (Northern Ireland) we mostly get money. i remember the last time i went out, though. i was 13, and i dressed up as Drusilla! i had a long white dress, a black wig, and flase nails painted black with white tips. that costume was the start of my 'goth' phase. i got a kick outta the black hair and nails.

Yeah, what goldenboy said. I don't really know why, but yeah, you dress up as a witch (actually it's on Thursday though, which we call "pink Thursday" 😀 ), and collect candy, 'cause the witches apparently go to "blåkulla" on that day, hehe. I have no idea what it's about, but it was fun when you were a kid..

Sometimes my candy gettin' gets curbed by getting incredibly intoxicated. And the trick or treatings rules now suck major balls. Eight o'clock?! That's like, right after sunset. Blows.

hmmm i've always handed out candy...

I'd go trick-o-treatin for a while get a whole bunch of candy then when i came home i'd give out whatever my mom had left that she was giving out.... I'm 18 and i still like to go trick or treating lol its just kinda you get weird looks so i think i should stop now 😛

Yeah I never went trick or treating either, but I did this easter thing instead. We used to sing easter songs also.

I remember on year though, people were starting to celebrate halloween here in sweden but it wasn't that big yet or anything. Anyways, we had some kid coming to our door trick or treating, and we were all like "huh?".. heh.

OH NO it was a chilly night here and we got about 75 of the expected 150 kids. Oh what am I going to do with all this leftover candy? Worse thing about all the leftovers are they are the small two-bite chocolate bars.
I think Mrs. TT and I will find something to do with it...
Most enthusiastic kid was a 5 year old in a ladybug costume who yelled trick or treat from the bottom of the driveway!
Best comment; a 6 or 7 year old saying to her father "Dad will you hurry up already do you not see all the houses I have to go to for my candy?" lol
