Hang Out Thread

Anthony Cordova, I have this thing for all things about the Arthurian legends as well, and in case you weren't aware so does Amber Benson.
I spent a few weeks near Tintagel a lot of years ago. There are some rum old places and great place names nearby. I tried to go to St. Nectan's Glen once but I wasn't welcome. A beautiful place by all accounts though.

There are so many deep poetic/philosophical truths in the Arthurian tales. It's so rich. In fact, most poetic/mythological literature from around the world (Western myth/poetics is the kind I'm most familiar with) is abundant in deep truths about the human condition and experience. Other than some philosophy (and history in general), it's the only thing I really care to read anymore.

I didn't know Amber Benson was a devotee too! Everything I learn about her just makes me like her more and more. I think we'd be good friends if I knew her.

Let me know all about the things I should see while I'm out there. I'd hate to miss anything (and I intend to spend several weeks in Cornwall and also Wales when I'm there. Ireland is going to have to be a separate trip).

Why weren't you welcome in St. Nectan's Glen?

Hi everyone. I'm waiting to hear if I've got an interview for either of the 2 library jobs I've applied for. One is a Young Adults Librarian role & the other is an Information Services role. I'm currently an Acquisitions & Cataloging Librarian and it's very, very boring. I'd never done Acquisitions or Cataloging before when I went for my current job. I had been a Subject Librarian for Architecture at a University. I thought I'd give it a go and it sucks. So hopefully I get one of those other library roles - or at least an interview!

Hope it goes well! Young Adults Librarian sounds like it could be a lot of fun.
As someone who has considered becoming a librarian as well I really appreciate your posts on the job, very interesting information 🙂

Do you find the Beach Body programs work for you? I'm always jumping in and out of them. Time is always what gets me.

That's my problem with any activities/hobbies I have. My children sometimes go from 6 AM - 9 PM, which doesn't leave much time in between when I'm working 30 hours a week. Anyway, I completed Hip Hop Abs (more fun than a great workout, though my abs definitely got more defined) and Insanity (death in a DVD set - helped my endurance a LOT). I really love Shaun T as an instructor; haven't tried any others yet.

I had great plans to go see The Fault in Our Stars this evening, and have just found out it isn't out in Ireland until the 20th June. Bloody ragin'.

Also, Hot Fuss by The Killers is ten years old today and is giving me enormous secondary school flashbacks, so here, have a listen.

Ooo, so many people who are/want to be librarians on this board - I love it!! I don't think I could be one, though. I would be putting books away, then, "Ooo, this looks interesting." *three hours later someone finds me on the floor by a shelf reading*

Aw, @Nix, tell them to shake a leg on the repairs!!

We are supposed to have a pretty nice day today - mostly sunny and 75*F. Of course, I'm stuck at work, but my husband is taking our middle child out fishing this morning. They will have fun! Our other son went with my in-laws out of town last night to stay in a hotel with a water park. He is having a blast!

Out of town adventure with a waterpark included - that sounds awesome even to my adult ears 🙂

I'm so ready for my vacation now, maybe that's why I'm suffering some waterpark envy 😉

I've booked holiday time off work for next summer! No big getaways for me this year

Any plans for what you'll be doing then? 🙂

I'd like to travel a little next year for my vacation. Maybe to Rome... I've wanted to go there for a long time... anyone been?
This year's vacation (three weeks away... I'm counting the days) is earmarked for moving. Which is fine. I like moving, or rather I like having moved... the actual moving process is kind of tedious.

Rome is amazing. Just walking around the city is worth the trip alone. Though, if you plan on going with someone make sure it is someone who wants to do the same kind of things as you. If I was to go again (and I fully plan on doing that at some stage in the next couple of years) I'd go alone and do everything I missed the last time.

Yeah, I was planning to go with a friend of mine. We've talked about Rome before, going exclusively with each other cause we have the same agenda there 😀 How long were you there? It feels like there's a lot to see...

I was there a week but I barely saw any of the things I wanted. So many museums and I really wanted to take the trip to Pompeii.

In other words - plan well before heading there and try to make the most of it, huh? 🙂

No, what I would say is leave yourself time to experience being in Rome, and a day in Pompeii cause it's cool. Don't pack it so full of touristy stuff that you don't know you're there 😉

Yeah, in a way I'm happy I didn't get everything done because it left me with a lot I still want to do. The Vatican is worth going to too, even if you aren't Catholic or practicising, the sheer spectacle of it. But be sure to cover your shoulders and legs or you won't get in.
