Where my fellow Asians at?
It's a commemorative month for Americans of Asian and Pacific Islander heritage, so you probably wouldn't have heard of it in Australia! (Or maybe you have something similar at a different time.) There may be special displays at museums about the history and culture of these groups, and some special events celebrating the cultures with food and dancing. And PBS, the public television station, usually airs some shows on the theme for every special commemorative month.i absolutely never would have guessed this from the title of the thread. Never heard of it, probably because Im not American. Dont get offended, just call me ignorant.
What do you do to celebrate? Where did the celebrations begin and for what reason? Is there not a big difference between Asia and the Pacific islands? I assumed there was, just cos our Torres straight islanders and south east asian neighbours are very different to continental/main land asia in various ways. I'm not a traveller though, so have never been anywhere in asia. I just have Catholic Filipino and Hindu Indian neighbours who despise being lumped in together lol.
Started to honor Japanese immigrants. It's just a month to appreciate the culture and sacrifices of Asian Americans. Though I am not personally 'Asian American', as I was born in Asia and am an immigrant, we share the same struggles of being surrounded by different cultures and feeling 'out of place'.i absolutely never would have guessed this from the title of the thread.
