Happy birthday! Keep eating that cake, it gets you another birthday next year. After all, it always has before.
 
You know you're really getting old when one of your birthday presents is a new headband for your CPAP machine.

Anyhow, it's after midnight now, September 6th, so you can all help me celebrate the 52nd anniversary of the day that I reported for duty at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, California. I spent my 21st birthday in a Selective Service barracks in Atlanta, Georgia, waiting to ship out. First time on an airplane and the first time to see the Pacific Ocean.

Good on you for not dodging the draft and hightailing it to Canada. You could've been a hippie like @Ethan Reigns was, but you chose to serve our country.

I could go into a long discourse on why I chose to go into the military rather than head for Canada or any of several other options. Certainly quite a few of my generation did. I didn't, for completely personal reasons. That was my decision, and I have no problem whatsoever with anyone who did otherwise.

I would like to request that this is my birthday party, even if it is past the actual date, so, please, out of respect to me and everyone else here, let's drop this particular subject, or at least save it for another time. Anyone who persists in this ain't gonna get no cake or ice cream.
