Happy Turkey day!

Thing is you can pick fault with just about every themed holiday if you look hard enough. I just find this one a bit pointless coming so close to Christmas, but each to their own.

I think here people focus on things they are thankful on thanksgiving and family, sometimes religion, and gifts on Christmas. So there similar but different. :)
bespangeled,
do you really think Xmas is a pagan holiday, I don't, a capitalist holiday maybe.

Just about every holiday nowadays is a capitalist holiday sadly, doesn't mean you still can't make the best of it and turn it into something special of your own.

I think you have to live here to really appreciate it. It's not just the 'holiday' it's the football game tradition, it's Macy's Day Parade, it's the 5lb newspaper ads, its Black Friday. It's more of a spectacle than simply a holiday in which to eat.

It's the same way your Christmas is different than ours because you've Boxing Day. So it's a stretched out holiday. Only thing most people get after Christmas here is to go back to work.

True, and more importanly it used to be the date of WWF/E Survivorseries!😛

Black Friday is depressingly becoming more popular here too.

As for holidays, I blatantly (used to) use them to excuse some excessive binge drinking, but now guess I'll need to try to be more involved and make an effort for the kid's sake, or more accurately for my family's sake.

I know the black friday thing is getting out of hand. I mean I went past an Holland & Barrett today and they are getting in on the act😱

Black Friday does suck! The worst is me having to work on Black Friday. I hate customers. lol.

Just call in the sick, you know you want to! Do people get really intense about it over there, like are they are the venge of starting min-riots? Its been getting like that in some cases over here. People really do need to get lives sometimes😀

I wish I could but I'm the one that has to relieve every one for their breaks. Which sucks. No, not riots or anything. But just a lot of people (which I hate large groups) and all asking the same stupid, dumb questions. Most of which they could answer themselves if they just read the signs properly! It's that stuff that just bugs me. So it's going to be a long day, so I'm gonna just relax tomorrow. And eat pie! lol

like are they are the venge of starting min-riots?
LOL! That was a decade ago. There have been deaths from it. It's abated somewhat since more stores are open on Thanksgiving and Cyber Monday, but people getting trampled underfoot and into fights was a common experience.

I like the pagan origins - the birth, life and death of Horus. But we don't have much money which means we're not stressed. Yeah, it's worship of Mammon, really.

I love The Gentle Barn (can be found on facebook, instagram etc) - I want to hug a turkey too!

LMAO @white avenger That's brilliant!

I don't know much about Thanksgiving but I appreciate that is a thing. I love Christmas but thats because family and friends come together and my daughter sees it as magical (mainly because of the presents giving and receiving)... We love the decorations too obviously and the Baileys for me lol... We are not religious as in the Christian faith anyway but it's a big thing in my house due to what I already mentioned. It is about shopping though you can't deny that, rather than faith these days...which to be honest suits me fine. But again, I appreciate others celebrate faith as well, it's just not my thing.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I wish we had something like thanksgiving here.
Could really need a break in this long, dark and cold fall with an extra day off work and a family dinner.

/SK

white avenger,
nice picky of the Turkey's pretending to be cows.
