The great thing about this episode is that is does raise the whole "If something is evil should it be killed" deabte. Does this apply to human employees too? It may well do. Someone mentioned somewhere that Angel's line about mercy made no sense when he killed Hauser but someone else stated it made perfect sense because Angel is willing to show mercy to a point but he's has to draw a line (not saying I necessarily agree, I'm not exactly pro-captital punishment) but in any event every hero has to draw a line with mixed consequences (just think of Buffy's decision regarding Ben in The Gift: heroic or just plain soft/stupid, debate rages on). In any event, I'd have to be more clear on the whole policy of the new W&H. Angel is trying to get back to basics but by having a zero tolerance policy is he creating another set of moral problems? I suppose this is relevant when talking about the nature or evil of a demon but particularly relevant to Harmony's case.
On to Harmony. I'm quite confused here, because I like character development and Spike is the one who kind of gets it over Harmony. From this ep to NFA, we have to wonder, because she does exactly what she always does (and this includes her human days) she doesn't take responsibility. In NFA she blames Angel (which is something I'll get into when we look at Harmony's betrayel in NFA) and here she lies and covers up her actions. We are sypathetic to her but has she really changed? When Angel spares her she gives a look as if to say she expects a lot more. I guess that's human in a way, well it's certainly human for her vampire or not.
Does anyone else think Angel is still smarting (emotionally) after Destiny. He seems extra pissy.
Spike and Harmony bonding a little was interesting. Spike gets insight into how he treated Harmony because Buffy at the beginning treated him much the same way: as if he's just a thing.
As for Spike not seeing Buffy, well outside the show perspective: lame. Inside letigimizing though? Insecurity. Harmony wonders if she matters and Spike wonders the same thing in regards to Buffy. He mentions to Angel et al, everything that he and Buffy had but that's more from his perspective. He even says later on in TGIQ, that he never had a shot with her. I understand Spike here (even though it's a lame excuse to keep him in the show), Spike's not as secure as he'd have everyone think. One minute he's, "I'm a hero" the next, he's "I didn't really do much" this kind of going back and forth is classic example of SpikeNarsicism (not the same as Angelus narsicism, although I do find that more delicious). In short, Spike can take on trials and demons for honour and love but when it comes down to it, he can be scared wittless.
Fred and Harm are sweet. It reminded me a little of Willow and Harm bonding a little in Graduation.
All in all, this is an Ok ep, but for some reason I find myself enjoying Disharmony, mainly because it had more for the other characters. It was a deeper ep especially for my fave characters Wes and Angel.
I do like the little demon rights activist thing. I think if I were to made into a character in the Verse that would be my job.
