I agree. I remember reading the last chapter before the epilogue and feeling a nice sense of completion. I was excited to read the epilogue, because, well, more Potter, but I think that I would have liked them either way.
I'd like to share a little snippet from my life here regarding HP. A little while after the 7th book had been released, a local library was celebrating the OotP dvd release by throwing a Harry Potter party after closing hours. I went there, the dvd was playing throughout the celebration and I was sorted into Hufflepuff (meh). After we were all sorted, they gave us trivia sheets to fill out. The person with the highest score from their house would represent that house in the trivia contest. I won for Hufflepuff (naturally), and they asked us questions that were pretty easy, and nobody was missing them. So, they had a sudden death round. One of the librarians left, then came back with the 7th book in hand and asked,
"On what page in the Deathly Hallows do Ron and Hermione first kiss?" The other people stood there, thinking, since the person who guessed the closest would win. I was impatient, so I leaned over to one of the librarians and said "can I give you my answer now?" She said yes, so I whispered "625."
Basically, I won this sweet lightning bolt necklace! Woot! 😀 ahem, aaaaand *scene*
