Harry Potter

Ohhh! Ohhhh! I love filling these little surveys out! I'm always posting them on my myspace. 😀

1. Your favorite book? - Definitely Prisoner of Azkaban, and I love the film adaption of it the best too.

2. And favorite movie?
- Question 1, Alfonso did an excellent job with the film. It followed it very closely, more so than the others in my eyes. Plus, I loved the woosh sound that was made when they cast spells.. I miss that. 🙁

3. Who was your favorite character?
- Hermione.

4. Your favorite quote? - Hagrid: "I'm a teacher! A teacher Potter! How dare yuh threaten to break down my door!"
Harry: "I'm sorry sir!"
Harry: "Since when have yeh called me sir?"
Hagrid: "Since when have you called me Potter?"

5. Favorite couple? - Um, I don't think my favorite "couple" is allowed.

6. What things or what moments you don't like?
- The horrible taste in names in the Epilogue.

I agree with your first point, but I don't think that was her reasoning on the second. She's shown she's more than willing to sacrifice characters she loves - Tonks and Remus, anyone? I think she's more loyal to her themes than her characters. The ultimate conclusion for Harry had to be a boring, clichéd life. That's where she was always taking him. The whole series has been based on the foundation of "Love", especially that of parents. To end with Harry experiencing this Love first-hand was a perfect thematic circle - at least in my opinion. That's why I like the epilogue, and don't mind the sappiness. I don't see it as her indulging in self-gratification (although that is her right). I see it as her following through on her message, even at the risk of alienating her fanbase.

I disagree with that to be fair.

A normal life doesn't mean boring and it certainly doesn't mean happy ever after either.

I think that JK wrote that ending because thats what she wanted in life - that happy ending.
Granted she hasn't had to fight wizards and monsters but she has had some really tough things happen to her.
From her writing and interviews it seems the most important thing to her is family and in her mind a happy ending for her would be a 'boring' life but a love filled one.

Yes she sacrificed characters in the book, but in life people die, and you miss them but you still can have the love filled boring life that she obviously craves.

1. Your favorite book? - Chamber of Secrets and Prisoner of Azkaban. (geez, I have it for "seasons" 2 and 3 out of 7, don't I? LOL)

2. And favorite movie? - The only one I really loved was the first one, the rest paled so horribly much in comparison to the books- (I've seen them up to GoF and utterly hated the movie version of Moody.)

3. Who was your favorite character? - Dumbledore. I also loved Trelawney. (And for looks, Ginny of course. Y'all know my fetish. 😀 )

4. Your favorite quote? -
[Snape] "Do you remember me telling you we are practising non-verbal spells, Potter?"
"Yes", said Harry stiffly.
"Yes sir."
"There's no need to call me 'sir', Professor."

5. Favorite couple? - not a romantic couple (gah, the thought... worse than Biles!), but I loved the mentor-protegé 'ship between Albus and Harry.

6. What things or what moments you don't like? - The outdrawn camping part and the epilogue in #7.
The deaths of Lupin and Tonks.
On first reading, the end of a certain chapter near the end in #6. :bawling:

Whats that?
Young girls?

Gotta say you should maybe explain that one a bit more because we don't all know your 'fetish'.
Duh. Redheads. :fling::: redhair:fling:

Even if you don't follow my posts (as I've said this quite a few times on this board) I thought my avatar would be a dead giveaway... 😉

You say 'Duh' but to be fair Molly has red hair and she isn't on your list.

Hair colour generally doesn't fall under 'fetish', but you chose a character thats actually younger than the stars.

Add to that the only time I even recall any post of yours, its in the thread regarding the teenager taking photos of herself.

In that thread we agree on things and disagree on others BUT add that thread and your POV to the simple fact you posted "And for looks, Ginny of course. Y'all know my fetish." this line about a young character, shouldn't surprise you that someone wanted you to be clear.

I didn't mind the epilogue. Harry was craving for a normal, loving family all his life and to see he finally got that - it was great. It was the best thing JKR could have done - well, after killing Harry (I still think it was a tad bit unrealistic that all of the Golden Trio + Ginny survived when so many others died - which is just realistic, don't get me wrong. I just bawled my eyes out at certain points throughout the books). But I see why she didn't go there.
The only thing I don't like about the epilogue was that we see so little of the other characters. We only see Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny, Draco and a short glimpse of Percy and Neville (+ children). I'd really would have like to see some of the other characters as well, to see how they ended up - especially George.
We know through interviews and stuff but I'm a little sad that it didn't end up in the books.

Mh, I see where you're coming from. 🙂

I do class it as a fetish, given that a red-haired woman would pretty much have to have the face of a dog to not register as erotically attractive for me, and just about every woman can increase her sexiness in my eyes by liberal use of red dye. ^^ The "duh" was more due to me, of course, having read all of my own posts (lol) and thus knowing I've commented on this taste of mine quite a number of times on this board.

Also, I don't really rate Ginny as "a young character"; after all, she's merely one year the main characters' junior in the books. As for Molly - well, I admit that I tend to see her as a tad too old for my taste (even though I'm sure I'd still find her more attractive than a blonde or brunette of her age, lol). As I said in yet another thread here, women beyond 35 tend to fall out of my "target group" as too mom-ish, and while I do indeed find teen girls attractive, I make a point of not acting on that attraction until they reach the age of 20 because I'd simply feel uneasy about that, even though 16+ would be legal over here. So I guess you're not totally wrong with your assumption, either. Hm.

But honestlly, EB - you once again display a talent of getting a thread bogged down in Off Topic here, don't ya? 😉

To wrest this topic away from the off-topicness and back to the undeniable attractiveness of Gin- back to discussion of the Harry Potter books. The books. Yes.

I disagree with that to be fair.

Sorry, I didn't mean that a normal life is de facto boring, rather, that Harry's life was both normal and boring. Which is what he had always craved. Anything less would have possibly been tragically appealing, but would go against the whole "All you need is love" message of the books. That's how I read it, anyway.

I know what you mean - I'd have wanted more (and Jo could have given it) if it'd been a good 100 pages long! But that's what the Scottish Book is for. I can wait. I think. So long as she, y'know, hurries up a bit. Does anyone know where you can get one of those carrot-on-a-stick things?
