I was just wondering if there were any Harry Potter fans on the boards. if there are what do you think of the books??
i my opinion they are one of my fave books all the way up there with LOTR and His Dark Materials. i was also just wondering if you like the films as well. im not that big a fan of harry potter and the philosophers stone but i thought that the chamber of secrets was really cool!! 😀
i was just wondering if people who were big fans of the books didnt like the films as much. so please tell me your opinion (good or bad)
(im not sure if that really made sense so im sorry if it didnt hehe 🙂)

P.S does anyone know when the prisoner of azkaban is going to be released in the UK???
 
I was collecting the books for my daughter and I need to read them myself but I haven't yet. As for the movies I have seen them and I was surprised at how much I loved them! Harry Potter rocks!
 
Rayne - the HP films are very good but the books are better. In case you couldn't tell I loved both books and films. I can't wait for Book 6.

Yusu - IMDb gives both UK and US release date as June 4th, 2004.
 
Yep, I agree Rayne Harry Potter rocks !!!
I really dislike the movies, I found them boring.
I guess most of film rn't as great as the book coz in a film we can't fancy the characters, places & all.
But the books r so great !!! The concept is so good, the plot & the story make that u can't put the book, or hardly can.
 
I think the books are amazing - it's especially fascinating to me to watch the characters go from ten years old to puberty-plagued teenagers and how their interpersonal dynamics change as they get older. The deft and subtle way J. K. Rowling is handling all that (and telling a rocking fantasy epic at the same time) is nothing short of jaw-droppingly brilliant. She deserves all the success she's had!

I love the films as well, although as Mr. Pointy says they're no comparison to the books. I think the biggest shortcoming of the first HP film was that it tried so damn hard to be a literal translation of the book that it didn't really have any snap, crackle, pop of its own. But the main trio of child actors are quite good. I'm EXTREMELY curious to see Prisoner of Azkiban, since I really liked Y Tu Mama Tambien (Azkiban director Alfonso Curan's previous film) but it in no way shape or form indicates that this guy should be given the reins of a kids flick. Which I think could be cool.

And damn it, I need the last two Potter books! Although www.fictionalley.org is probably the best fanfic site on the web (an amazing number of talented writers, some extremely high quality fanfics) and that tides me over a bit!
 
I haven't really seen HP movies and I'm not going to..I prefer to have my own image of Harry or Hermione....
I love the books though,I have them all from UK and I was the pfirst person in my city to read the 5th book...
 
I love harry potter!,..the movies and the books...
i prefer the books than the movies...but the movies rock anyways 😉!

i havent read volume 5 yet(argentina 🙁)....i have a trouble with the 'five' this year(ats s5)
 
I looove the books so much, obsessively and crazily. I've read each one more than 10 times, except the 5th which i've only read 3 times!! The movies are pretty bland, dull and suffer from a serious deficiency of creativity. I wish they had never been made 🙁

I also love His Dark Materials. Although they are slightly indulgent, they are masterful, astonishingly intelligent, very moving and beautifully written and structured. Also some of the concepts are spectacular (such as the daemons and all the Biblical stuff) and Lyra is one of the coolest characters ever. Which is your favourite of the HDM books yusu? and anyone else who has read them?
 
Oh I love Harry Potter! The books are just so amazing! And the movies stuck pretty close to the books so that made me happy! The only bad thing about the movies are that my thoughts on what the characters looked like totally changed, so when I read HP5 over the summer I imagined the movie characters and not my own 🙁 a lil dissapointing
 
I love harry potter! I love the books and the movies, i can't wait until the 3rd one comes out!!
 
Order of the Phoenix - just finished it this morning actually! ::evil1::

My mum bought them for my son and I actually have read them al before him but he didn't get the Order of the Phoenix till his last birthday in October and I was in the middle of re-reading my Patricia Cornwell books so I only started a few days ago.

Only trouble is I am now desperate to read the next installment and it was bad enough waiting for Order of the Phoenix to come out!

I also enjoyed both films and can't wait to see what they do with the third film, although as others have said whilst good they are not a patch on the experience of reading the books! My main interest with the next film
is to see how they portray Sirius Black, seeing as though initially we think he is a real baddie and then we later discover that he is in fact Harry's Godfather, I've put spoiler tags as there may be members who haven't read from book 3 onwards, I've not read any news on the latest film as to who will be playing him if we even know yet, so excuse my ignorance if the information is already available.

Hurry up with the film and next book is all I can say! ::evil2::
 
I had heard rumours that he was going to play him - think it was Faith ages ago that told me come to think of it.

Yup, I know who Gary Oldman is, also loved him in 'The Firm', that very non-violent film about football hooliganism 'lol'. It was one of the first films I ever saw him in. Very talented actor, and I hope he does the part justice - think I may have to go and find all I can now about the PoA. 😀

err... i think that my fave character has to be Lyra as well. she has got to be the coolest but i really like Will and her Daemon 🙂
 
Big Potter-Fan here!

I've read all 5 books several times - I'm completely addicted!

I also like the movies although they're always way too short 😉 I'm really looking forward to the 3rd movie. The Prisoner of Azkaban is my favourite book!
