I don't think it's left ambiguous on purpose but you're right of course. People will see what they want. Although since I don't really care one way or another it's not so much what I want to see but maybe influenced as to what's most common (friendships over gay feelings) in movies.

(And honestly, some of the tumblr stuff I've seen of them together is adorable.)

I haven't seen those but fan art can make almost anything adorable so I don't doubt that for a second.

Also, on the subject of Cap & Peggy.... isn't it weird to anyone else that he was in love with Peggy Carter, and then kissed her niece Sharon in Civil War after burying Peggy.... keeping it in the Carter family is obviously a thing for Steve. Sharon's future child better be on the lookout!

I don't mind Sharon as a character, but that was definitely weird. Hayley Atwell herself said that Peggy would have disapproved of it.

I obviously don't mind people seeing Steve/Bucky in a romantic way, but I do think there's starting to be an issue where people can't see any close relationship (straight or gay) as platonic. Which is really a shame.

I think this does show some sort of bias because if he was a girl she'd surely be viewed as the "damsel in distress" and would surely be a romantic interest. The default to friend comes from the fact that we wouldn't expect Cap being bisexual. (Sidenote: I agree that we should see more great platonic friendship, both m/m, f/f, and m/f in general, especially m/f friendships).

Now I don't really have an opinion on Cap cause I don't really like Cap, but I think it'd be awesome to have a mainstream hero be bi. Of course, these things tend to remain subtext as to not offend anyone. The studios would likely never risk having one of their biggest money maker being anything other than straight. Hell they don't even want to produce a Black Widow movie for fear of losing money cause she's a girl.

You're right and that sucks on two levels. Both that it'll be seen as romantic just because it involves two different genders but the whole "damsel in distress" thing has always bugged me. If it's a female it's given the impression that she's weak and helpless and need the help of a "strong" man. While if it's a man it's more like "Too bad, now lets help him" and very rarely points to him being weak.

I raised myself with a lot of scifi and fantasy (with gender roles being nonstandard, essentially mattering a lot less than other genres more often than not) and to this day it sometimes amazes (though no longer surprises) me how much the gender of those involved affect how a story or event (fictional or real) is understood. Change the gender of one and it's an entirely different context. I doubt it's even conscious. But it does seem to be changing.

I don't think Elsa Needs a gf or a bf. I say keep her single. I also don't need a Frozen 2, though. I thought it was just meh. My nieces loved it! It's no Beauty and the Beasts. Lol. I think it's too fluffy for adults.

As for Cap, I never thought he was gay for Bucky. I think Bucky is like his brother, he's family so of course he's going to protect him. I liked Steve and Peggy in the first movie. It's a bit weird, cause I mean Steve's technically really old. Lol. But I don't mind him with Sharon.

I dunno, my niece and her friends (age 6) are obsessed with the songs and the costumes. Kids don't understand plot or tropes, kids love pretty colours, catchy songs and slapstick comedy, all of which Frozen has in spades.

It seems to me that a lot of girls love the fact that its a story about two sisters and their freindship- that tneds to be focused on more.
Yes they may like the songs and the costumes, but that doesn't really explain why Frozen is so much bigger than other Disney hits, ones with better stories. It seems like a phenomenon because its non-traditional.
I dunno, maybe I'm just projecting lol.

Yeah, but a lot of people don't see it like that. And guess Marvel doesn't either, as they had Steve kiss Peggy's niece in Civil War. It's one thing to have Steve focusing on Bucky in all three movies in a way that could be seen as gay, and another to actually make him gay.

Well I was mainly joking but Bucky is certainly important to Steve- I mean 'close as a brother' important since they've known each other forever.

No need to make Cap gay though- he seemed to love Peggy deeply- just make him interested in a guy he has a connection with. Happily bisexual.
