I just answered a thread on one of my other forums and realized how much Buffy has influenced me on baby names. I'm almost dead set on if I ever have a daughter in naming her Illyria or Anya. Has anyone else ever thought about naming your children names from Buffy or is it just me?

I think it's because the name's are just so funky anyway, it's only natural to think they're nice enough to consider.

For example I think boys names are the hardest to pick, but since watching Buffy, "Xander" is definitely on the list if I ever have a son. Even my Mom thinks that should be Name Choice 1, haha. And name's such as Willow and Anya have always seemed pretty to me.

So while it may be to do with how much you like a character that might influence your name choiceage-honoring a character perhaps?- I think mostly the show made us aware of names we otherwise wouldn't have known existed to consider. As for example, like I said- Xander. I mean before Buffy I'd always thought the only way to shorten Alexander was Alex...so there you go.

My first child, regardless of gender, will be called Billy/Billie, so that's not an issue.

After that, I can one hundred percent say that Buffy/Angel/Firelfy have definitely influenced me.

Like Joyce, my number one pick for a boy is Xander. After that, it's Simon or Riley.

As for girls, I'd definitely consider Dawn, Tara, Gwen, Darla, River or Inara...I'd stay away from the really popular characters, like Buffy, Willow, Faith or Cordelia. BTW, how come it's always easier to come up with girls names than boys? lol

And who knows, I might even consider naming my daughter Fred 😉

I agree with you Joyce that I think it's more of the flattery of the name. Like I personally don't think Buffy is a flattering name, it's unique, but it kind of makes me think of a dog or a cat. With the other names, I just think they're cute and flattering. I've questioned the Anya one, because you always need to think about how someone could be teased because of their name, and I definitely can see "On ya" as a teasing factor...

I love the name Lilah, but god help me if my spawn turns out like her! 😛

Well, I don't plan on having kids for a long time, but I do like a lot of the names they use in the shows. For guys, I'm going to go against the majority and say I don't like the name Xander that much. It might be because I know a guy named Xander who I'm not the biggest fan of, but really, I just think the name is too...plain, I guess? Aside from that, the main guy names I like are Angel and Wesley, but the only name I could actually see myself using is Wesley...I would never be mean enough to name my son Angel!

Like Lyri and Joyce said, girl names are so much easier! Joss came up with a lot of great girl names; I could definitely see myself naming a daughter Willow, Anya, Fred, Dawn, Tara, Inara, Darla, Kaylee, River, Gwen, or Lilah. I would never name my daughter Buffy, though; the character is way too popular for people not to get the reference. Besides, I just don't like the name.

lol i named my dog Sunshine from Dru's puppy in s2

but also i definately would name my son Xander its sweet and if i have a daughter its Winifred or Anya but im leaning toward Fred

We have a boy in our beginning Tae Kwon Do class names Xander, and one of our friends named his Beagles Spike and Buffy, and his cat Angel.

I have a cat called xander and 2 fish called Buffy and Angel (and my mother wanted to name the pale one Buffy Angel's a vampire! its so obvious!)

does that count???

Well if i had a son id call him Snyder, Kakistos or Krevlorneswath.
And if i had a daughter she'd be called either Veruka, Kennedy or Glorificus.

I always say to my daughter (who was born before Buffy started) that I would have named her Cordelia if she was being born now. I love that name. Two of my sons have James and David as their second names (but that was coincidental rather than a deliberate effort to name them after JM and DB) - although i'm all kinds of glad they have those names now. I also love the name Rupert - all you people yet to procreate, you should really consider that one (cos i'm not having any more kids!!)

I used to have a dog called Buffy and a fish called Spike...and funnily enough they tended to exhibit character qualities.

As for naming kids...should anyone ever be unfortunate enough to be born to me, not sure about character names, but I for one like the name Seth. I don't know why...it's just cool...it could be a thing if I had a boy. Although I could be tempted by Wesley. If I ever have a girl I want to call her Zia, but that's just me.

Well I already set up girls' names without any Buffy influence. I have 3 name choices there, Daphne, Evelyn and Paige (lol I admit that one I got from Charmed). I did consider some Buffy related name for some time though, namely Alyson, Anya, Darla and Cordelia.
Well, but if I in fact ever get pregnant, the dad probably also would like to have a word concerning the name, so, goodbye Buffy names.

Definitely. If I ever decide I want to reproduce, I'd name my child Cordelia. Boy or girl.

That poor child!! Stuck with you as a father and a name like that?! Do you hate them in some way?! lmao
Oh definitely not. As much as I love Buffy I don't like any of the names enough to saddle my kids with them 'lol' I've had 2 children whilst Buffy has been around and we never even remotely considered names from Buffy, Angel or Firefly for them.

My youngest son was actually named after my grandad, Jack Lewis, and our daughter, Evie Freyja, was named after my nan, whose name was 'Evelyn' & 'Freyja' because she's a Norse Goddess and my husband's surname is actually of Viking origin. *shrugs* We're boring, what can I say! 'lol' 😛
