We haven't heard any objections in Season 10 by Giles for Spike being there, even after Buffy and Spike started sleeping together again. Do you think that he's finally accepted the fact that Buffy is a big girl now, capable of choosing her own bed partners with no outside help, or has he maybe just realized the absurdity of trying to be the stern father figure to Buffy while occupying the body of a child, which would mean that, as sure as the older version of Giles returns, (and we all KNOW that it's gonna happen eventually, don't we), the old arguments are gonna start again?

I believe things will be different, with Giles accepting the new Spike's status within the "family" - being him Buffy's boyfriend or not.

And about him returning to be a "stern father figure to Buffy", that ship has already sailed. When she needed him the most (S6), he went back to England, saying that she needed to grow up. When she had a war to fight (S7), he betrayed her. Then he died (S8), and left all his possessions to Faith.

Maybe Giles's got bigger things to worry about? 😉

Or maybe after the disasters of S8 he just threw up his hands in defeat and said 'what the hell.' about Buffy's constant bad decisions concerning who she dates?

That's not acceptance, that's tolerance.

Not necessarily. I think Giles can be very supportive and accepting of Buffy's decisions.

Of course Giles has finally accepted Spike. Would he go to Spike as he did in issue 15, to offer him support and advice and clearly showing where he stands, if he didn't? And I think he has accepted HIM, not the fact that Buffy is a big girl, and that his looking as a boy has nothing to do with it. Spike is a good guy and Giles is clever and mature enough to see it.

I know what he SAID, but something just tells me that Giles has some kind of ulterior motive. Hopefully, I'm wrong.

I had forgotten about that when I posted my comment in this thread!

😱 I hadn't thought Giles could have some secret motive, he looked so sincere... but you may be right (of course I hope you are not as well!). The only one that comes to my mind, though, is that he dislikes Angel so much that he is willing to help Spike just to get Angel out of his way. can't blame him, if that's the case 😛

oh, I've just read the latest issues one after the other so things are still fresh in my mind... fresh and juicy 😀

I don't see anything suspicious, either, he was just being... Giles.

Giles seems to be warming up to Spike - when he was being tested for any possible mind control after the nightmare, Giles said: I find myself feeling quite sorry for him. It's not as if we have many more answers than we did this morning. Being Giles, this is huge! 😀

what I'm finding interesting is seeing that now it's Spike the one who doesn't trust Giles. Is it because of what happened in s7 or has something else happened in s8 and 9?
