So, in just over 2 weeks time, the 5th Anniversary of one of the worlds most horrific events takes place.

I'd never understood all those people who said things like 'you remember where you were when Kennedy was shot' as it didn't seem like anything could be that huge it would imprint on your mind the exact details of what was happening....well i didn't understand until September 11th 2001.

I can describe to you exactly how i found out.

It was a lazy day for me. I'd been out the night before So I woke up pretty late.
I turned on the TV at just after 2pm(GMT), but in my drunken state the night before I must have put it on silent.
So as i'm watching the TV in silence, its the news on BBC1. At first the images i'm seeing before me I assume are part of some new Blockbuster movie being reviewed.
Keen as I am on film, I turned the sound up and was totally unprepared for what I heard.
A Plane had crashed into one of the Twin Towers.
The News Readers were saying they were unsure if it was accidental or if it was an attack then suddenly 'News Just In' including live video feed(obvious delay) ANOTHER plane hit the second tower.

For the next 3 hours, I was stuck to that TV witnessing something I had never dreamed of unfold. I found myself phoning loved ones just to hear their voices even though i'm in the UK and all my loved ones are, I just needed to hear them.

So, I was wondering if people wanted to talk about this?
I don't want any unpleasantness, just people talking about what they were feeling, what they are feeling and stuff.

Here is a link to a YouTube Video that has me on the verge everytime i hear it.

Heaven 9/11

I have watched the video, its very sad and moving.. I remember when i heard this news.. I was at school in class and we were about to watch a movie on the tv and as we turned it on the news headings and images flashed before my eyes, i was in shock... i couldnt believe it.. it took me a while to take in what had happened. Our teachers actually wanted us to watch it and we sat there for hours in silence, just thinking, praying and realising that something so horrific had happened... this was one of the biggest events i have seen, when i got home my mum told me that a close friend had been in the highest level of the twin towers... i just cant get over it.. and i cant belive its been 5 years already.. time does pass by quickly, i really hope that this sort of thing never happens again.. it has moved us all, and changed some of us, bought us closer together.

OMG that was so sad i sent it to my step mom we started crying....

I remember when 9/11 happened I was in school too i didn't know anything then bout 10 or so we were all sent home cause we werent to far from where one of the planes hit in p.a so they sent us all home just incase i was freaking out cause my dad drove semi truck and i was so afraid he was in NY. It was one of the saddest moments in history and its something i'll never forget.

i know exactly where i was when i first heard about this.
i was on vactation with my gradparents in the Costa del Sol. we'd just spent all day at the beach and came home at around 5pm to get ready for dinner. my grandad switched on the television, and we saw the second plane hit. we thought it was a movie, we didn't think that anything like that could happen. then the news reported came on screen and we saw the date and the time, and we realized it as real, that it was actually happening. i don't really remember anything more, 'cause i was in so much shock. but i do remember that my grandad had to pick me up off the floor where i'd fallen when my legs couldn't held me anymore. we didn't go out for dinner that night, it just didn't seem right.
we flew back home 5 days later, and it was the most frightening flight of my entire life. everyone was crying, mom's wouldn't let go of their children's hands. people were panicking and looking around them, wondering if anything was going to happen. one man go so drunk that the stewardess had to restrain him. it was so horrible.

I'm a total spa when it comes to world events. I didn't even know what the World Trade centres were! But I was in my last class of the day, French. And someone came running into the class room and told the teacher and said the world trade centres have been hit by planes, and everyone was in shock, and I had to turn to the person next to me to ask what and where the world trade centres are. I got looked at like I had two heads.

I remember I was actually in front of the PC at the time, and we had BBC 1 on, and I was obviously watching at the exact same time as BoTD, because I remember vividly seeing that live feed with the second plane hitting the towers. I couldn't believe what I was seeing, it just didn't seem real.

My thoughts then turned to my friend Linda, whom I've known for nearly 20 years now, as she I knew she worked close by. I didn't know if she had been caught up in it all.

It took days before I finally got through to her, & found out she had decided to take 2 days vacation so she could go in search of childcare for her daughter. Had she been in work that day who knows what would of happened to her.

She was lucky, so many others weren't. 🙁

Last year, she wrote about 9/11 in her Journal. I've posted the link below, as I think it was educational, well, it was for me, to get someone's perspective on the event, & how it affected them, as they lived & worked in NYC.
Linda's Journal

I remember i was at work at the time, doing a twelve hour shift, and hearing on the radio that the planes had crashed into the towers, i guess i was shocked and hoping that the people got out in time. So feeling very sad i went to watch the news so i could hear more ....my sister was in Australia at the time visting Dad(i saw him and his wife christmas the previous year) she told me that she was getting a plane home early so she could not be involved in the plane strikes that threatend to delay her return home, the night before she felt very sad, and nearly cried for no apparent reason and when she wroke up the next day she saw the news and then knew why she was upset the previous night. Whenever i hear the Bon Jovi hit (i'll remember that in abit lol)
the first track off the album bounce, i am reminded of it, i guess the day inspired him to write it.

I was talking about that a few weeks ago with friends and we realised that we all remembered how we found out, where we found out, with who we were, and how we felt...

I was coming back from school(it was about 4pm) with a friend and we always passed by this bar in my street...but there was way more ppl in there than usual...nobody was talking, and the tv was loud...we saw the video but didn't really understand...when I came home my mom was crying, she had almost spent the entire day in front of the tv... she explained to me what had happened but I couldn't believe it...that was too weird...the thing that shocked me the most was when I saw the images of all the people jumping...I felt like I was gonna be sick...

Well everyone say that's the day the world changed but for me this is my world. I was too young with too short of an attention span to remember things pre september 11. But I do however remember the day. I remember waking up getting ready for school and watching my mum cry as she watched the news. I remember crying hearing about all those innocent people and I remember watching all the kids at school acting like nothing had happened and getting really upset.

I was coming home from school. I had just gotten out of the car. It had actually happened earlier in the day, but I think our teachers held it from us, believing us to be too immature to accept the facts. Needless to say, I was devastated by it. I had several good friends in America, and in the vicinity of the WTC, and I was worried as hell for them.

I was in fifth grade. It happened at 8-something in the morning, but i didnt know about it until after school around 3 or 4-ish. My last block was Advanced Math...and my teacher said something funny like "No homework tonight. Go home and find out why." Apparently we too were "too young" to know what happened when it happened. Anyways, I was walking home with my friends, who were 7-8 graders (my school then was 5-8), and Rachel told me something about planes hitting some towers. I didnt realize what she was talking about of course, cuz That's exactly how she stated it "Some planes hit some towers." I turned my tv on when i got home like I normally did, and for some reason my tv was on channel 3 (NBC). It normally wasnt. Maybe that was god. Anyways, I saw all those images replaying over and over again. The same stuff being said repeatedly...that actually got annoying. Anyways, I called my best friend Carrie, and we were watching it together, and talked for hours. She was like "I'm so scared." I kinda laughed. I remember watching that channel all night, and found myself watching the Today Show for weeks after that...until I had settled back into the routine again. I know that was a sad day and all, but i guess it didnt really affect me because i couldnt really imagine it...
But yeh...thats where i was. My sister was a Senior at that time...and she saw it in the library...

I'm sorry, I know I said 'no unpleasantness' and this comment could lead to that but i could not ignore this!!!

With everything going on in thw world, on that specific day you think God may have popped into your living room changed the TV channel onto one you don't normally watch so that when you got home you would turn it onto a broadcast of something that was on every other channel.

OK, so he is infinite and can do whatever he wants an all, so much so one must expect him to have done everything, but seriously, even he wouldn't be this bored!!!

I'm just teasing, but lets be honest, you knew I couldn't let that one slip by🙂

Anyway, back on topic.

Contrary to the popular belief, I don't remember where I was on the eventful day in question. I do, however, have one memory of it. I awoke in a strange bed, walked through to the living room, there were voices, I guess suggesting that I look at the Tv. I saw the second plane hit, and I thought, 'wow, these plane companies need to hire better pilots' lol. Then I lay my little head down on a couch and feel back asleep.

Maybe my memory is that of a dream, but I don't remember where I was on 9/11.

I dont see that much teasing with what you said, but I'm not gonna go all postal or anything. I'm just gonna say "HEY!" and let that be done with. HEY! Okay, now I'm done. 🙂

When I think of 9/11 these lyrics usually pop into my head.

The Beatles - In my Life said:
There are places I'll remember
All my life though some have changed
Some forever not for better
Some have gone and some remain

I'm just going to repeat what I posted in a previous 9/11 thread...

I remember being at work when someone came back from lunch and said that there had been an attack on the Pentagon and that there was something happening in NYC. No-one could get on to any of the news sites so we put the radio on to find out and it just kept getting worse. I remember feeling so sad and depressed and angry and sorry and ashamed of my species...it was possibly the worst day of my life that didn't involve the death of a loved one.
To cap it all, we had our grandson Connor (he was three at the time) over that evening and we were watching the news together when the footage of the planes hitting the WTC was shown. He said "Look, fireworks", not understanding, and I nearly cried...

The world hasn't changed for the better since then and the muppets in charge seem hell-bent on making it worse. Never forget the victims and don't let the terrorists, of whatever stripe, win but don't follow Blair and Bush blindly. In no way whatsoever do I mean to disrespect the brave men and women who are on the front lines in all of what we find happening as a result of 9/11, just the muppets...actually, I have a lot more respect for the real Muppets than I do for our so-called leaders...

i'm reminded of Undivided by Bon Jovi..the song whose title i couldn't remember..the words are very good...

Undivided

That was my brother lost in the rubble
that was my sister lost in the crush
that was our mothers, whose were our children
that was our fathers, that was each of us

A million prayers to god above
a million tears make an ocean of

One for love
one for truth
one for me one for you

I found spirit, they couldn't ruin it
i found courage in the smoke and dust
i found faith in the songs you silenced
Deep down it's ringing out in each of us
Yeah... yeah,yeah,yeah,yeah...

One for love
one for truth
one for me, one for you
where we once were divided
now we stand united, we stand as one
undivided.

How many hands how many hearts
how many dreams been torn apart
Enough, enough...the time has come to rise back up as ..

One for love..
one for truth
one for for me, one for you...
where we once where divided
now we stand united
we stand as one ..undivided.

Undivided
undivided.

One for love
one for truth
one for me, one for you
where we where once divided
now we stand united
we stand as one...
undivided.
