Has Veronica Mars Jumped the Shark? (Spoilers for UK)

Admittedly there was some really good stuff in the first part of this season.

Of course I loved all the Charisma, Joss and Alyson action.

However just before the break we saw that episode where Veronica gets called in for jury. Am I the only one who thought that episode stunk? I mean a 17 (18?) year old gets called into jury duty (is that even possible?), and they want to make her foreman? C'mon.

Personally I can't help it. I didn't like that one, and I'm not sure they've done anything to redeem themselves since.

Anyone have any opinions on this - for or against?
 
I saw that ep and I found it a little weird too. I'm 18 and I haven't even been called to jury duty yet. I sometimes think that they make Veronica Mars too smart but that's just my opinion.
 
I've been watching VM this season-I live in Connecticut in the U.S. and so I won't give away any plot details here but I thought last week's episode was really great-I was totally into it for a full hour. But then the episode last night felt like a dud.

I wouldn't characterize it as having jumped the shark just yet, it remains to be seen where they'll go the rest of the season.

In this country being 18 means just being able to get on the voter registration rolls, from which they often get potential jurors' names-I think 18 is minimum age to serve anyway. That business of Veronica getting selected, then picked, then elected foreperson looked improbable to me. I would think that still being in high school would be sufficient to get oneself excused, but I've never heard of this situation happening.
 
I agree that Veronica is very smart for her age. Or possibly for any age. I love it when she's wrong about something, just makes her more human.. Just annoys me that I'm not half as smart as her 😛 But I love that she's this smart and stuff as well, I mean, if she wasn't, the show wouldn't be about her but about some other really smart teenager 😉

I sort of agree that the show isn't as good as it was in parts of the first season. Or, honestly, I don't know if it's got anything to do with how good it is, I just know that I'm not as into it as I used to be.. Don't get me wrong though, I still love VM and think it's the best show on TV at the moment... (Lol, you should read what I just wrote about it in this newspaper, heh, and you'd see how much I worship it... 😉 )
 
I didn't think it was that weird...I mean, 18 is old enough to be called to jury. And she only got picked for foreman because the business guy thought she might learn something, and he probably thought that she'd be passive and it would all end quickly.

good point.

So far I have liked this season just as much as last seasons.

And they have talked about how they already have next season planned out which apparently be different then the first two.
 
That jury episode was just okay, but I think the 2nd season is as good as ever.
 
Actually, it doesn't really concern me whether stuff like Veronica's jury duty is realistic or not. Is Neptune High supposed to show a real public high school? I kind of think not. That doesn't take away from the stories of the characters within it-Veronica, Wallace, Duncan, Meg, Logan and so on. And of course it's always a joy to see Alyson Hannigan and Charisma Carpenter on the show.

I will be very interested to see what the show does next year when it moves past the high school setting. I think that Buffy was amazingly successful in making that transition, although I also think that there is a definite difference in tone and in feel between the early seasons of the show (1-3) which were set in Sunnydale High School and the seasons thereafter.
 
i liked the jury episode, but i didn't like the last episode i saw (donut run - the one that aired last week). perhaps it has jumped the shark, but i'm gonna stick around for the rest.
 
I think the term "jump the shark" is too commonly used. So what if a show has one bad episode? The first 4 episodes of Battlestar Galactica's 2nd season were just so-so, but the fifth one was awesone. In fact, last week's BSG was the worst I've seen, but that doesn't mean anything, at least for me.
 
So is this why you've not been around on the VM forums much N4H? I need more guys, I think im the token one at the moment. If you look hard enough theres a pic of Kristen in a bikini. You know you want to go now 😛

Anyway remembering back to One Angry Veronica, maybe the idea is a bit improbable, but then isn't television (and film) about "suspending our disbelief"? Sure its not likely an 18 year old is going to be a foreman, but it can happen. Yeah I'd rather have seen some more festivities but then this is Veroncia Mars, I mean last year's christmas episode ending with a stabbing and the line "No Veronica, there is no Santa Claus" so its not exactly jolly times.

I suppose the chances of an 18 year old foreman (foreperson?) is as great as the chances of a motorbike gang in high school.

Where was I? Donut Run was good in my opinion but people seemed to be split. Rashard & Wallace go the White Castle I enjoyed, but then that was for several reasons; Veronica and Wallaceness, love them too together (as friends), Veronica bugging a church and she looked hot when she dressed up for the frat party (Im shameless).

These days you hear a lot about the show Veronica Mars being the "New Buffy". Coincidentally in that vein, someone besides me must have noticed that Kristen Bell is the same physical type as Sarah Michelle Gellar-slight build, blonde, short relative to many of the people around her. Not to say they resemble each other in the face, but seeing her on the show next to Alyson Hannigan and Charisma Carpenter reminded me of scenes Buffy with her classmates.

At 25 she looks a bit mature to be in high school, but so then did most of the stars of Buffy.
 
I don't think Kristen and Sarah look anything alike, other than both being small blondes. Sometimes Kristen looks way too old for the part.
 
Yes I see what you mean. I remember that scene.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that KB and SMG resemble each other, just that they are the same physical type. It's enough to trigger flashback effects. 😉
 
ya that does look like SMG a little from the distance.

And on the Veronica jury duty for that one episode, a student at my highschool turned 18 and he got jury duty shortly after.

Well now that you mention it...

What age is Veronica supposed to be anyway? The episode took place before Christmas. In the United States, the general age for being a senior in the month of December is usually 17-high school seniors turn 18 sometime in the year they graduate. Of course there are exceptions, particularly for people born at the end/beginning of the calender year. Need some VM detail experts here...

Jury duty is a whimsical thing. It's one thing to be picked-it can happen quite frequently to one person and never happen at all to another. Then once you go into the jury pool there is a drawn out process to actually get picked for a jury, lots of people just report and then go home. Once you are seated on a jury then it's kind of iffy if you will be the one chosen to be foreperson. But all of that aside that plotline of the show was okay with me.
 
Veronica is eighteen, she turned eighteen toward the start of the school year, before it started or very near the start, can't quite remember. It was mentioned in "Normal is the Watchword" (season two premiere), thats why Duncan left the little box with the fortune cookie in on the table at Java the Hut, it was a birthday present.
