Been thinking about this today and I have to say not really.... I've always loved the science fiction and fantasy genre.

From shows like..

Doctor Who
V (1984)
Buck Rogers
The Incredible Hulk
Mork and Mindy
Wonderwoman

I often think about this question, it's an interesting one.

I dont think it has, but it's expanded.

When I was younger my shows were all pretty much Sci-fi/Fantasy and half hour comedies. I started watching more drama shows and reality shows, drama used to be a bit boring to me, and I hated reality shows on principal.

Now I love drama shows (Scandal is like the greatest thing on TV!) and really enjoy some reality shows (not competition reality, except xfactor, but give me a Real Housewives of wherever and I will be watching).

Sci-Fi/Fantasy shows tend to be better ones for getting really into, I hadn't done that with a sci-fi/fantasy show in ages so I had been thinking that my taste had changed, then I watched Vampire Diaries and loved it so I think I just like any and all TV (TVSlut!)

Yes and no. I've always been really peculiar about the shows I like. I tend to not like one genre, but it goes by show to show basis. For example, I love Buffy but I hate every other shows vampire related. In general I've always disliked soap type shows, but I like One tree Hill and Pretty Little Liars. I love fantasy movies, but the only fantasy shows I watch are Buffy and Angel. I just can't seem to get into the other stuff. I guess I'm just extra picky, I've always been that way, but when I like a show, I'm borderline obsessed with it.

One thing I've always hated are comedies, those I simply will not watch. I have a general liking for French and foreign shows. I tend to like those a lot more than American TV.

I've always like doctor type shows like House and Nip/Tuck. And I've always been into horror type genre.

I guess the only this that has change is that I now have a bigger focus on LGBT friendly shows. It's obviously not a pre-req for the shows, but I like when there's at least one LGBT character on a show, I just tend to connect to those storylines, so I'm more inclined to give a show a shot if I see they have such a storyline. Also this applies more for a drama type show, don't care at all if I'm watching a sci-fi, or fantasy, but when there's a show entirely based on couples/relationship, I like to see that we are somewhat represented in there.

Yes, and no.

The sci-fi/fantasy/horror genre has always appealed to me, a lot, and it still does, however the things I appreciate seem to change. I'm a lot more intrigued by the human stories and the character interactions. Also, I used to prefer supernatural stories over "pure sci-fi"...by a MASSIVE divide, that's gotten much smaller and I'm a lot more intrigued by stuff that plays on science.

"Fringe" might be the best example, as it aired I was more interested in finding out what the mythology was about, and I didn't care about SO many characters and therefore had trouble following it, now I'm rewatching it from the beginning, and I view it completely differently. Beautifully written show, the fringe science is fascinating to me (I love quantam physics) but I find the characters all so engaging and I find myself noticing the small touches like things in performances, rather than just appreciating the weirdness.

Game of Thrones can be described similarly...

Also I'm more into "reality-based" dramas, such as The Americans, Scandal, Revenge, PLL...and up until a few years ago I watched VERY few of those types of shows.

Odd isn't it, I can remember watching a TV series when I was a child that scared the bejeezus out of me, many times during the show I got to inspect the back of the sofa. That show is still on TV, as new episodes of the show are still being made; that show is called Dr. Who.
I did liked the first V (the original English version) and Hitchhikers Guide To The Universe (the original TV series).
But I'll never forget the one that is regarded as being the forerunner to every Sci-Fi TV series ever made, 'Professor Quatermass'. First released in 1952 and it was made live.

I have a confession - I was TERRIFIED of the Doctor Who theme song as a child! It was spooky, I didn't even need to see any of it to be scared. And in some ways that has really scarred my ability to really enjoy that show when I do catch an ep here or there.

Back on topic though, my choice of shows has always been all over the shop. I think the only thing that may have changed is that I get suckered into reality tv more than I'd like as I've gotten older, and it's not so much because I like them, but there's just so many of them that sometimes they just happen to be on when real life is still happening....it sucks! I'll still stay away from any sort of Kardashian or Jersey Shore type stuff, but I can so easily get caught up watching My Strange Addiction or Embarrassing Bodies...

But I'll always save a special spot for a good ensemble cast that can be dysfunctional with a good story to tell, no matter what genre it is.

Has my taste in TV shows changed as I've grown up? Well, yeah, I would say so. back when I was a kid, my favorite shows were:

Bonanza
Gunsmoke
Have Gun Will Travel
Wanted Dead Or Alive
The Guns Of Will Sonnet
Tarzan (The one with Ron Ely)

and others of that sort. Sadly, shows like that just aren't being made anymore. I don't mean westerns, or adventure shows starring the human equivalent of alpha males in the lead, I mean shows with characters who were heroic simply because they were heroes. They didn't fight the bad guys because they were seeking revenge for someone killing their wives or parents, they weren't trying to atone for all of the people who they had killed in the past, and they weren't trying to impress some girl who was too stupid to realize that high school romances should stay in high school where they belong, even if the high school did burn the place to the ground.

Now, I watch shows like:

Hawaii Five O
Falling Skies
Supernatural
Walking Dead
Castle
Longmire

and shows of that sort. Still heroes, still fighting the bad guys, but they all have to have some particular reason for doing what they do, and it's usually because it's what their family has been doing for generations, or they wake up one day and the world's turned chaotic, and they have to become heroic just to stay alive. Almost without exception, they wouldn't be doing what they were doing if they had had any sort of free choice in the matter.

I've grown out of some TV genres that I use to really enjoy, mainly teen dramas. There was a time when I use to love any and all teen drama, but now it's painful to sit through an entire episode. I've also noticed over the past few years, as the amount of TV I watch has dwindled down, that I'm really not drawn to half hour comedies like I use to be. I did go through a sci-fi/fantasy phase a few years back, but that only lasted for a year or so as I binge watched numerous shows. For me, I think that since I watch TV less than I did a few years ago, I'm more picky about what shows I keep up with. These days that only shows I keep up with are Scandal and Revenge.

One TV constant for me is sports; mainly football, basketball and softball. I always enjoy watching and keeping up with that.

Well, I mean, not really. Buffy was my childhood, and as it appears, it will continue to be my adulthood. So my taste in shows hasn't really changed at all. Here's thing about me: I view all Whedon shows as like my main four shows, the shows in which all other shows are judged by. So it takes a hell of a lot for a show to hold my interest. Most of all television shows I've watched were either complete drivel, or were good, but not Whedon good. Only a select few have upgraded to "Whedon" status, and that's Veronica Mars and Breaking Bad. So yeah, I've basically been watching the same handful of shows for over a decade, and I doubt that it's going to change. 🙂

I don't think my taste in shows has changed that much. I still love Buffy, Firefly, Smallville, and Angel as well as shows like The Walking Dead, The Vampire Diaries, and Being Human. I am still drawn to supernatural elements of a show, but I also love a good drama. I do notice that my favorite relationships these days are the adult relationships in a show, because it's interesting to see how marriage and adult dating is portrayed in TV.

I don't think it has for me. I still love Sci Fi shows and comedy (Simpsons etc as far as a T.V series goes).

I'm probably a bit more open now towards the likes of Law & Order etc, probably something I wouldn't have watched at one point.

Having the likes of Star Trek,The Walking dead etc on DVD, I don't usually watch it on T.V anymore since I have it at hand, but I'm probably more open to a few things on Sky Atlantic etc. If I hadn't of watched Buffy I probably wouldn't have watched Ringer, where as now I'll watch shows like that regardless.
